Donovan Warren to NFL

Is 2009 over yet? This year blows.

No question it would have been better if he stayed. If JT is as good as they say, we could have had two lock down corners next year (quite a turnaround from this year). But, no sense crying over it. And we are going to be very close to our 85 scholarship cap with the incoming class, depending on who we offer to stay as 5th year seniors and what we do with Kovaks (RR said he wanted to find a scholarship for him). So long as RR tops off this class with good defensive players, we will be fine. We should wish Warren good luck. No way he goes in the 1st round (2nd is questionable too), but it still is probably a smart decision for him given the salary cap situation.

Mistake by Warren, if you ask me. Unless you are a first rounder, or at the very least, an early 2nd rounder, you should stick around for your senior year. Warren isn't going to get the big bucks as a rookie.

Perhaps playing on teams that finished 3-9 and 5-7 dampened his enthusiasm for playing CFB, not to mention that he committed to play at UM under Carr (and more specifically his family friend, Ron English) rather than RR and his revolving DC policy. With the salary cap conundrum, this is the best decision for him. Damned rules. He would probably stay otherwise (just a hunch). Best of luck to him

Let's be realistic. Any gains we might see in DC stability and recruiting will be offset by youth and lack of size. 2011 may be a beacon of hope, b/c I think these kids will develop well. But 2010 will be a another defensive mess. I think we need to reconcile ourselves to this now. It will hurt less later. Also, we need to hope our offense scores 42+ pts a game for a winning season. I can't blame Donovan. But there is little silver lining to his exit.

No other way to put it. Pray to the football gods that a) we can somehow manage to replace both Warren and Graham, b) the rest of the secondary will improve dramatically, c) our linebackers won't be a complete disaster again, and d) in the event that a, b, and/or c do not work out, may our offense score touchdowns on 95% of our possessions.

I wish him all the best. Unfortunately, I have a hard time believing this is the best decision for his career. I hope he proves everyone wrong.

I don't care if I'm in the minority on this. This is a team sport. We recovered over losing Ty Law and Charles Woodson early and I would never put him in the same conversation as Woodson. We even got over losing Tom Curtis. No one person is bigger than the team or his side of the ball. I congratulate him on wearing our colors with pride and giving his all out there. He could have easily complained about going from beating the defending national champs to two losing season. He never transferred or got in trouble. He never embarrassed this University. And I don't care if he's even a 3rd round draft pick. He will prove any doubters wrong and show that we still put out great corners.

Make us all proud that you're a Wolverine. Make the Pro Bowl and show all that Michigan is still a great place to be for DBs. (And I pray that nothing bad comes to light about the way you were coached at UM.)

i love michigan football. i think my head would explode if i got to run out of the tunnel and jump and touch the banner. and all the rest of the stuff. that is me. for these guys, though, the decisions to go or stay are a little more complex. best of luck, do us proud

It had to have been a super difficult decision for Donovan and his family. I think we should all be happy for him and continue to cheer him on and support him 100%. He'll always be a Wolverine.

on the other hand Woolfolk and Floyd will have good experience. Turner should be ready to roll. Hopefully Witty is a quick study and contributes early on. Booboo may be back. And we're recruiting what...about 17 defensive backs in the 2010 class? So maybe one of those fine young freshmen will step up. Don't you want to fast forward two years to see how STACKED the secondary is going to be?

At least we have like 100 DB commitments in this class. I wish DW the best. He was our 2nd best player this year and will be missed. Glad he chose Michigan over USC. Great player.

The younger players, who are themselves talented and competitive sorts, will see a big opportunity here. I'm thinking we will see them step up their game more than if DW were sticking around (I know it's a counterfactual fallacy but screw it. We need a silver lining here).

Guys, we all knew this was happening. We have a few good young DB's on the team currently, and a handful of promising guys coming in. Finding 4 solid starters shouldn't be impossible. We lost 3 players, but we return 8 out of 11 starters, and have so many young kids who should improve dramatically from 2009 to 2010. We are not in that deep of a whole. However, hope the offense scores mondo points. The defense will not be atrocious, but it won't be amazing either.

I was hoping that for Christmas I would get the news that DW was staying for an extra year, but I guess I will have to settle for Sean Parker committing instead (fingers crossed). I was one of the people that said I thought he would be lucky to get drafted in before mid third round, and I srill don't know that I am wrong, but still, I can't say I blame him. None of us have any idea what the factors are that have lead him to make this decision but I am sure he is making the one that benefits him most. We often hear that someone should stay the extra year to better develop their skills before heading to the NFL, but does anyone honestly think he won't develop just as much there as he would here? Seriously, I think the NFL can develop talent every bit as much as college teams can, plus you can be making money at the same time. I had to spend 12 years in University to finish my medical degree and if someone had offered me the chance to leave early and still make the money I am now, I would have done it in a heart beat. Good luck DW. Hopefully you are the next great UM DB in the NFL. Following in the footsteps of past UM greats like Woodson, Jackson, Hall, Law etc.
