Is Donovan Edwards gone? Sounds like it.

Cristian Dixon gave this answer in an interview: "I feel like (Donovan Edwards) is in the in the state of mind, where I feel like he’s late in this process. I feel like most recruits we have a school in the back of our heads. So, I feel like he already has that school in the back of his head. So, he’s waiting for the decision really. I feel like with Donovan there is nothing we can really do to per sway as of right now.”

Maybe I'm reading tooo much into it, but this doesn't sound good IMO.

Unless something has changed - OSU has two running backs in the class and will not take another. Edwards skill set or the two they currently have are true running backs and not easily switchable to the slot. Besides, the WR/Slot recruiting hall is off the charts for them. They have no more room in those positions either except for saving a spot for Engubuke (sp) if he wants it. I believe at one point OSU wanted Henderson and Edwards and Henderson and the other one (can't remember his name) both committed around the same time, leaving Edwards out in the cold for OSU. I remember the buzz and several article surrounding this - maybe early last spring? Edwards was upset but still did not want to pull the trigger. Have to give him credit - he could have committed to hold a spot and decommitted later.

Yes, OSU told all 3 RB's that they were recruiting up front that they were taking two and first two in win. Edwards may have been misled only in that one of the running backs - I think his name is Pryor, said he was going to wait and then went ahead and committed leaving Edwards as odd man out. If OSU was a take, you are correct, he'd be going to OSU.

He's not a take - but not because he is slow footed. OSU was only taking two and I think they really wanted Henderson and Edwards - but Henderson committed and then Pryor - the other back in the mix, committed before Edwards - thus edging Edwards out. I am pretty sure OSU would not take Edwards at this point.

OSU doesn't compete for National Championships.  All I can say is, wow.

Not in recent years?  They were in the CFP LAST YEAR.  It was obvious to anyone who watched that game that they should have won.

They are favored to go undefeated EVERY FUCKING YEAR.

Whatever the hell you're drinking, I want some.

You're completely misconstruing my point there bud.

OSU obviously runs the Big Ten, but they haven't been in the National Championship game since the 2014-2015 season(albeit they won).

OSU is synonymous with winning in college football, but Clemson and Alabama are that top level where making the championship game is EXPECTED(both have been in 4 championship games in the last 5 years). That is not the case for OSU, that is my point.

Wow, when I saw a reply I was hoping it was going to say that you were being sarcastic.  You actually doubled down on an opinion that Ohio State hasn't really competed for National Championships in recent years.

You're insane if you don't think Ohio State is in the group of top 1% teams with Bama and Clemson.

They haven't been to the championship game in half a decade. Good shot to go there this year, but they have to get it done first.

Relevancy as one of the top teams in college football? Yes.  Making the Superbowl of college football recently? No.

They've made the final 4 twice in the last five years....both time losing to Clemson(and getting smoked in the first game).

None of this has anything to do with Donovan Edwards, but they are not on the highest level, obviously. You comparing them to Clemson and Bama is asinine!

Competing for National Championships doesn't mean you are in the FINAL game every year.

It means that most years you have a decent chance to get to the final game and, well, compete.

Final AP top 5:  13 out of the past 19 seasons. That is competing for NC's.

Undoubtedly. Just like Zach Harrison saw our shameful defense against OSU in 2018, and dozens of talented players saw that they weren't going to be utilized and left the program, or sat in classes rather than practice.

Utter disaster. I can't believe Harbaugh had the audacity to slight Rich Rod in his welcoming press conference by pretending he never coached here. I would almost rather have him back at this point than what we have now.

I'm not so sure that Mattison didn't have something worked out before that game.  It all happened so fast, and so cleanly.  I don't discount what you're saying, but the way he left was just... scuzzy.  I really have no quarrel with him leaving to coach at OSU, if that's his plan.  But the actual way it happened, the shots at UM once he was there, the suddenness of it.  I can't reckon all that with his lifelong family friendship with the Harbaugh's.  Far as I'm concerned, Mattison can fuck off straight into hell.

But I also wonder what role Harbaugh played in pushing away an old family friend.

If we are blaming the outcome of that game on Mattison having one foot out the door, then that makes two separate games against OSU that we are making that excuse.

If things had fully recovered after the 2015 debacle it would make sense. Now it's just utter bull crap. Harbaugh drives people away because his methods are insane.

I was also initially pissed at Mattison but after watching the player attrition we've had, most notably players like McCaffery who would rather do nothing than play for Harbaugh, I really don't anymore.

Mattison was the canary in the coal mine.  That should've signaled to everyone something was very, very wrong inside the program.

I remember my very first job after college. First week I went out for drinks with my new coworkers and they told me how crazy our department head was. I thought for sure they had to be exaggerating the craziness. There is no way a person could get away with it and be in a position like that.

It turned out they understated the craziness.

Mattison was a high floor low ceiling guy here as a DC. Excellent recruiter and excellent developer of defensive linemen. But his defensive performance plateaued pretty quickly. I think he got us up to around 25-30th in SP+ after being ranked in 100s under Greg Robinson, but never got it any better.

Exactly. We saw the possibilities with Mattison, and it was good-not-great. People might not remember this now, but what happened was that Michigan's defense would typically play well in the first half or the first three quarters, and then they would have to survive an onslaught late because other teams would make adjustments and Mattison's defense couldn't handle those late-game adjustments.

Obviously, I would rather have that situation than what we have right this minute (porous defense from beginning to end), but Don Brown WAS a better defensive coordinator from 2016 through most of 2019.

Yep, and good god his blitz's were so predictable I was pleading for him not to blitz just before some 3rd and goal to tie the game.

I think Mattison left because Brown and he didn't get along. And I think Mattison checked out long before he left. Imho, Mattison is the chief architect of our D-line depth issues right now.

I think Brown is probably hard to get along with too. One way to do things, his way.

Keep your tocque on!  There are a lot of UM fans post on the Buckeye website.  There are several interesting posters on MGOBLOG that do a lot of in-depth analysis of good and bad.  I don't ever want you guys to beat us, but your current state is sad.  We need you to be a decent team, so I guess it's selfishness on my part.  Like I said, about 1/3 of the posts here are brilliant....yours, not so much.
