DJ Williamson Mystery

Submitted by Ziff72 on
With everyone in an uproar about star rankings of our recruits, I am a little puzzled by DJ Willimason. He plays in Ohios toughest Class, he just won the state 100M title, has nice size and yet there seems very little info and zero hype. How bad do you have to be at football to be the fastest kid in a state like Ohio and people not see potential?? Was he buried on a depth chart last year Teric Jones style?? Does he fall down if he doesn't run in a straight line?? Seems rather puzzling.

...and, he's committed. If committed, there is no need to put much work (or an alteration of star rankings) into a recruit who won't drive web clicks and revenue.

Unfortunately track speed and accomplishments don't compute with his ability to play football. Again, this is a matter of the coaches knowing a bit more than we or the paid analysts of recruiting sites know.

Rivals is dumb and even though there are highlights of Williamson elsewhere on the web, they wouldn't rate him because they didn't have his tape. It's kind of a petty thing, I think. Nobody should be worried about him, though. At the very least, he'll be a 3-star prospect. I compared him to Carl Tabb, which obviously doesn't remind anyone of greatness...but Tabb was serviceable and could have produced a little if he weren't surrounded by such great talent at the WR position.

Rivals really seems behind this year. Almost like they rushed too fast to get their first rankings out and missed a lot of recruits. The first revision had some huge movers/droppers and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues in their 3rd revision. I think scout actually did a better job with their first lists and after just updating it recently they seem to still have recruits where most people were expecting them.

Well if we are all so worried about what Rivals has to say then the above is what is currently on thier site. Conclusion? Don't worry about what Rivals has to say about anything. It is June. I would be much more worried about the test scores of Gallon and Fitz than anything at Rivals about our 3 star collection.

Are you serious? I used the word WE. As in we (not me personally, but certainly not you) are worried about the 3 stars. Then you inferred that I somehow meant you? This makes me stupid in your world? Fine. As I have said before, perhaps you need to sit a few posts out. I don't know. Have a beer and relax, maybe take a day off from posting for a while. It seems this may be too much for you at times what with all the reading and comprehension involved.

-1 for using "OBFUSCATE" when you know damn well that word is wayyyy beyond the vocabulary of GBMW. +1 for the premise of your post Unfortunately that leaves you with 0 points but at least you got an MGoPoint, so you've got that going for you.

Like calling me stupid? Look man I don't really care what you think of me. You have your very well known opinions and I have mine. I see no reason why you have to turn a misunderstanding (yours not mine) and turn it into this because you can't let it go. You pissed me off by calling me stupid because you misinterpreted my post. If you want to continue this you can go right on ahead. I am sorry that you turned yet another post into a Magnus comment-fest. I was just commenting that we should chill about the 3 star bullshit because it is June. You turned it into something about you. Well played.

In the literary world, it is a very important point that it is the WRITER'S job to convey his point with no ambiguity; the reader's job is to understand what is written. Your post was filled with ambiguity; therefore, you failed. Then you tried (and you're continuing to try) to blame your failure on my lack of understanding. Also, my argument wasn't "You're stupid." My argument was that you were projecting your lack of common sense onto me, and I then proceeded to tell you how you failed at communication. Your argument devolved into "Douche." Neat.

don't alot of players make a name for themselves at summer camps, but he's not attending them? This gives Scout and Rivals less of a chance to evaluate him, which will most likely leave him at a 3* rankings.

In summary I guess we're saying we have no idea and we're waiting for some idiot at Rivals who has no motivation because he's already committed to randomly give him a 3 star at which point 70% will say he is garbage and 30% will say Mike Hart/Pat White or he could say "wow he's fast make him a 4 star" at which point RR will get a reach around for unearthing a gem from the internet hordes.

Williamson certainly has proven track speed, and has decent size. Those don't make a four-star player. I haven't watched his film, but I do know that he didn't put up great stats last year, so until he can prove on the football field that he deserves a higher ranking, why would he get one?

That is more of what I was looking for. I'm not saying he is fast he deserves a 4th star. I was just saying he isn't rated by ESPN or Rivals and he played for one of the bigger schools in Ohio and he won the 100M as a Junior so it wasn't like no one knows who he is. I want a reason. If you say his speed doesn't translate to the field because he is very stiff or has no hands or isn't tough than I can understand. Just seems odd he has little info. I'm hoping he didn't have great stats because he played behind some stud who went to LSU and this year he is going to blossom and we have this stud locked up, but no one has seemed to see him in action so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Sarcasm meter please set to on. I'm not worried about anything I think that most of the whole "star" thing is a joke once you start getting this deep in the pool. People post on here that Denard Robinson ran thru Meijer to get milk and someone hand timed it at 9.79 over the 100M he ran in there....with a busted wheel on the cart. It's been 3 days and no one has posted anything about this guy winning the Ohio 100M as a Junior and he has little info out there. My question was why?? Just seemed odd, I'm not worried about his rating at all. Seems like speed is something scouts kinda looked at. With that in his back pocket I wondered if anyone had seen him play or if he didn't play much and if that was the case why?? I'd be glad to here he didn't give a shit about rankings so he didn't make a mix tape and go to some stupid combine to get his ranking up so they just ignored him.
