How does this happen month to month?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
For whatever reason people think basketball is football and the sky is falling after going 2-2 against top 10 teams.
Dumb. This team is in good hands.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:22 PM ^
This team is in good hands.
How do you know?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:27 PM ^
I'm the Allstate Good Hands guy
December 14th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
That makes sense then.
Merry Christmas.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:22 PM ^
You sound hideous...
December 14th, 2019 at 7:17 PM ^
Well I wouldn't say the board was great during football season either. Some guy Ham I don't recognize is every other post in the comments bitching about every possible thing.
December 14th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
Who are you referring to?
December 15th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
*gestures wildly at all game threads*
December 14th, 2019 at 3:02 PM ^
They left for r/cfb and r/collegebasketball because the new site design is ass and the blog doesn't give a shit about the board. Also, the abundance of ads on the site makes mobile unbearable.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
Plus there are too many trolls on the board pretending to be fans and nothing is being done about it. I just post random quips here and there because discussion is useless. I guess I just don’t care anymore.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:15 PM ^
There is no moderation at this place. The moderators are asleep at the wheel. I mostly stay away because of the unchecked ugliness that goes on in comments. And I am sure the ugliness is not all Ohio St fans, and trolls. It's also unhappy and angry people who also happen to be Michigan fans.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:49 PM ^
You are dead on about the ugliness in the comments. I am stunned from time to time about the things people say to each other, and I absolutely believe comments have gotten more obnoxious over the years. I understand it’s the internet and all, but a New Year’s resolution to be more civil on the site would be a good idea for a lot of people.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:06 PM ^
It's easy to control. Moderators just have to snip the comments and give warnings. After a certain amount of warnings just ban their computer.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:15 PM ^
Moderators do clean this place up, but at some point asking people doing this for free to scour the site for assholes isn't all that appealing. I think they keep it reasonable all things considered.
Also, for someone who claims to stay away from this site, you got a lot of points in under a year.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
I see this mentioned all the time in regards to moderation. Are you aware of any board that pays moderators? I've never encountered one.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
I've seen blog busier than this one moderated by one person, and run smoothly. Whoever runs this blog just doesn't care.
December 14th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
I wouldn't say they have to scour. The posters that you are referring to are pretty obvious.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:22 PM ^
Do you mean discussion or digression?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
The proliferation of trolls here over The past year or two has gotten bad.
However, r/cfb is worse to check since the anti-Michigan trolls practically run that site. The r/collegebasketball site is better since the trolls are mostly infighting between the "blue blood" bball schools.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
Some absolutely ran there; I've seen them. But those Reddit sites are just as awful, if not worse, than here. They just have a better way of hiding people. The Chrome extension that lets you troll cave people has been a godsend.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
Good posts are visible there, they're lost in the flames here.
This board is closer to the old MLive boards than it is reddit.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:52 PM ^
The redesign is really bad on the forum side. So many of the best posters left around that time, and I personally spend way less time here too.
As for the ads, I don't see any. I used to whitelist this site, but the ads are way too intrusive now.
Seems to me that this site gets a lot of its traffic from the forum, especially in the off season. They really should care more about it.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
Haha. I had never used an ad blocker ever until the site redesign. This site made me research and get ad blockers for both my Mac and iPhone.
December 15th, 2019 at 6:13 PM ^
Don’t leave home without it
December 14th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
Yep, plus you can actually use Reddit on mobile, see who is responding to whom, and even the opposing teams fans are almost always far more reasonable than the UM fans here.
May have messed up that whom, not sure.
December 14th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
Why do people complain about ads?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
Oh do go fuck yourself.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
You must be new around here?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
I do all the time as I'm the only one with standards low enough to fuck me, but what does that have to do with the subject at hand?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
Says FranklinHatchett
December 14th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
Regress/digress, same thing.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
Logged in to make similar quip.
..though I'm now wondering if it was a joke aimed at a previous post's title..
December 14th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
Losing heartbreaking fashion can be very frustrating. This team will regroup. We need the next 2 weeks to prepare for state. Go Blue forever!
December 14th, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
Where have some of the old posters gone? A lot of these new posters suck.
There never was a time like you say. Maybe 5% have quality sports. I've never seen it any other way, even when I would read here sometimes before I started posting myself.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
If you go back ten years, it was probably the most unique online community I've seen. Now it's just like anywhere else.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:40 PM ^
Maybe memory is embellishing?
December 15th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
No, it really was. Don't even have to go 10 years, can go 5.
I think 2017/2018 things fell off a cliff. The redesign happened and in terms of actual results, the 2017 season was brutal (MSU loss in particular) and the 2018 season ending was beyond the pale in Columbus. I think in those two years all of the optimism people had held out for so long for Harbaugh (and even before Harbaugh, that things would get fixed with a non-Hoke/RR coach) evaporated.
December 14th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
i've been taking a break from all sports this year as a sports detox of sorts. only seen a couple of games, college or pro, all year. it has been interesting.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:43 PM ^
i hope you are taking that time to teach merlin how to be a bird dog.
handsome pup, don't waste all that talent.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
Merlin will be 1 on Christmas Eve and is about 80 pounds. he is an athlete and very muscular. fast twitch like i've never seen in a lab. we do about 6 miles of walking a day. I've lost 40+ pounds walking so much and eating mostly steak or turkey sandwiches and then ben & jerry's for a treat on saturdays.
December 14th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
very good for you with your health - congrats. send merlin to me and i'll get him ready for the field. our existing bird dog will be helpful with the training.
December 14th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Can he play DT?
December 14th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
It needs to either be actually moderated or just shut down.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:05 PM ^
It is moderated, but we need more.
As one of them, I'll tell you that the new format, plus actually having a job that I need to pay attention to and a family (and, in my case, a fucking zoo of pets), plus all the other people who are moderators being in the same boat (it is not a paid title here), it's hard if not impossible. Further, banning people - which does happen in the background - doesn't stop them from showing up an hour later under a different name (even the same name if the account is deleted).
December 14th, 2019 at 4:13 PM ^
Maybe someone could look into Natural Language Processing to detect revisiting banned posters
December 14th, 2019 at 4:19 PM ^
You do great work, but if you are uncompensated there is plenty of better charitable work you could be doing. Work that matters.
December 14th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
Student without a family who spends more time on here than I should. More than willing to help moderate if you need ppl.
December 14th, 2019 at 5:31 PM ^
You guys need to figure out how to ban IP numbers
December 14th, 2019 at 3:53 PM ^
I am with you ... over the past 2 years it's been pretty bad.
Many of the bad postings come from when we lose for sure. It's because Michigan is NOT allowed to lose, ever. We must win all games and be undefeated or it is a losing season. That is what it has come down to and anything less than a perfect season is totally unacceptable. If we do lose then all coaches must be fired and the players have no role in playing and performing and we must bring in new coaches asap to right the ship.
In other words people freak totally out at any and all losses and lose their minds.
