Devin Funchess #26 overall on Kiper Mock Draft 1.0

Submitted by TRAILofVICTORY on

"It's not really fair to call Funchess a tight end based on where he typically lines up, but at more than 6-foot-4 and at about 235 pounds with the ability to simply overpower most cornerbacks, he's not exactly a flanker, either. What I'd call him is a perpetual matchup problem, a guy you can move around, with the quickness to run crisp routes and easily create space if linebackers try to cover him and enough size to make cornerbacks have to go through him for the ball. Joe Flacco can use a weapon like Funchess, as could Gary Kubiak, assuming he passes on any other overtures."

Other noteworthy things:

1 - Jameis Winston

2 - Marcus Mariotta

4 - Amari Cooper

16 - Trae Waynes

24 - Melvin Gordon

32 - Devin Smith

how these predictions pan out. I guess everyone likes to predict and its fun to think about and discuss, but I find these "experts" pretty annoying and completely full of themselves. They direct the pre draft conversation, and once the drafting starts and is completed, I always wonder how accurate they are. They seem to only talk about predictions. Maybe I miss the results part afterwards, but I'm just wondering, do they ever really look at the results of all their pre draft chatter? like overall results, not just a couple high profile guys.

Funchess is certainly a player I wish was coming back to M next year because I'm sure he would help a lot.

Despite his size it seems like he's not a very tough, physical player. I would think most NFL defenders could push him around a lot and greatly mitigate the matchup issue his size presents. Am I crazy?

When was the last time you saw him overpower anything? Do you think NFL heat seeking missile DBs are going to be worried about matching up with a guy that doesn't layout, is afraid of going up and getting hit and doesn't have good hands or a good work ethic? He will be an enormous bust if he goes in the first round.
