Can't imagine him going to either UT or Auburn with their current situation.
Coming down to UM or Oregon, IMO.

Oregon might not be in any better of a situation...Chip Kelly has been rumored for some time now to be heavily contimplating a move to the NFL...THis move may be in response to suspected sanctions placed on UO, ala USC and Pete Carroll. I love our chances here!

I also don't see his offensive style translating well to the NfL, regardless of how he might tweak it.

The threat of NCAA sanctions can do many things to a man...
November 18th, 2012 at 8:06 PM ^
why would the "threat" of the ncaa scare any coach anymore??
November 18th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
I'm not sure. Why don't you ask Jim Tressel.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
so you dont think 99% of college coaches wouldnt mind 10 years of winning, plus a NC while cheating the whole time just to get "let go" and get a show cause???
November 18th, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
That's not the question. The question is, once faced with those sanctions, whether or not a coach would stay at the school.

minus the show clause, Pete Carroll is pretty dead on with your description. Kelly did get caught red handed with evidence that is quite damning. The threat of NCAA isn't a big deal, unless they have a thank you note signed by said coach thanking a recruits handler for stearing a top recruit to your program.

Not necessarily. There has to be a lot of comfort between the head coach and all the management involved in professional football. It's not like college where he's pretty much in charge of everything; there's a lot more hands in the pot in the professional world. If he gets the right feeling from an organization, I could see him giving it a try. The seads of the spread are already in the NFL, and I could see him trying to pioneer it to a new level.

Kelly is as good as gone. People close to Oregon have said that, including Mike Belotti. Recruits would have to be aware of the fact that he wont't be there next year.

Gareon Conley?

That sounds really promising. Sounds like Miami made the cut because of effort - but they don't seem like they'll be a huge factor, and that coaching changes at Tennessee and Auburn (1 gone, 1 almost gone), would have a significant effect. It appears that Oregon is our biggest competition for Green, but it sounds like we have the edge.

Can you say Nike money never loses.
November 18th, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
He seems to be pretty easily influenced, which gives me the feeling we may not get him since I don't think we really pressure kids and overly recruit them the way I've heard some do. But, he seems like he really isn't sure what he's gonna do yet, so it's probably still wide open. It wouldn't at all surprise me if someone he hasn't even mentioned gets him either. Anyway, seems like a good kid and great player, so still hope we get him, but I'm not holding my breath.
November 18th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
that is what ive thought for awhile now. i think another sec or maybe even a acc team will get him.
November 18th, 2012 at 7:49 PM ^
I just don't see us landing him. If you look at all of the schools he's considering, UM is the only school that fits his skill set and has a competent coaching staff that will be in place for his entire career, and also has the resources to reach the highest level of college football. If he hasn't committed yet, he's looking for reasons to not come to UM.

Your post captures my thoughts precisely.

So two of his top five are most likely going to face sanctions, and two are going to lose their head coach. Sounds good to me!
November 18th, 2012 at 8:06 PM ^
Gosh, I wish recruiting was predictable and rational. Unfortunately, as we've seen in the past, it is anything but. Derrick really hasn't showed his hand on Twitter and I doubt he's going to broach the subject with fans first; those bottom feeding recruiting analysts will chew him to no end and sprinkle some scraps of information to keep us interested, all while telling us nothing.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:16 PM ^
He's not coming.

I like that shirt.
November 18th, 2012 at 10:04 PM ^
It make a lot of sense that Michigan would be the best fit for him, but I'd still be very surprised if he does end up in Ann Arbor. Something just doesn't seem right when he throws a school like Miami back in the mix and is very interested in playing for Derek Dooley (pre-firing) or Gene Chizik.
Hope I'm wrong.
