Submitted by Dr.Jay on

Roy Roundtree and Mike Martin have confirmed Denard is staying, as told by Chris Balas.

Crucial that he stays. Great player and hopefully Borges can find a way to use him effectively. Also crucial for depth with Tate seemingly gone and no qb's in the class yet.

The depth chart concerns are obviously important but, looking at it on a higher level, I think retaining Denard is an extremely important step in regaining whatever national credibility that Michigan may have lost.  Losing the B1G Offensive Player of the Year and arguably the current "face" of Michigan football would be a huge symbolic blow to Hoke, in my opinion.  He is an outstanding character and turned a lot of heads this past year and needs to be retained.

Is this Hoke's first big recruiting victory already? The fact that Denard was mentioned specifically in the press conference gave me a good feeling about him staying. It's pretty big deal when the AD stresses how special he is in a PC.

If you scrolled down his feed, there were like 30 tweets about the Michigan/KU basketball game, and the guy seemed into it. If he's exuding this much school spirit, and the QB depth chart is clearing out above him, I think Devin is smart enough to realize he's gonna be the man for many years in no matter what offense we run here.

Forgive my ignorance here, I have been using the app the last few days to keep up on things while trying to look like I am getting some work accomplished. I have not seen anywhere the point you mention about DG saying I'm gone. Can you let me know where this came from? Thanks.

He tweeted "I'm Gone" last night.  That's all it said.  Someone on here said that he was playing a joke on Roundtree but I didn't see any back and forth between them about it.  It also could mean something completely unrelated to football.

Hellz yeah. No player is more important than the team but damn do I like rooting for this kid. If we would have lost him, I fear that it would have turned a lot of people against Hoke. This is a win for fans as well as the coach. May even keep the Florida pipe line open. One can at least hope anyways.

It would be a major bonus if Hoke wasn't looking at a depth chart which read, "Devin Gardner and four walk-ons."

The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Hoke is truly flexible enough to create an offense that will take advantage of Denard's skills while helping Devin continue his growth.

But that's an awful comparison for a number of reasons.

1.  It is extremely, extremely unfair to compare Denard to Mike Vick.  Mike Vick is an experience quarterback.  He's bigger, stronger, and much more polished as a passer than Denard.  That's to be expected; he's 30.

2.  The offense really didn't work as well down the stretch.  This is mostly because Andy Reid REFUSES to run the damn ball (sorry I'm an Eagles fan.)

3.  Vick went through 3 or 4 reads most of the time; he was a true pocket passer.  That's not what Denard is.

With less focus on running the read option and less pounding, who's to say Denard doesn't become a more polished passer. As someone who enjoyed Harbaugh first hand as a student during his playing days, I can't imagine (yes I can) what Denard could do with plenty of roll out pass plays. Bring it!  Heartburn for the opposing D, eh?
