Totally a great solution. I hope he's 100%. Losing Maggs for the season (career?) is actually a blow because he's been pretty consistently getting singles, but DY is a good fall back.

This seems like a desperation move by the Tigers, or Young's injury was just exagerrated somewhat.

Hope it pays off and we can come home 1-1, otherwise Texas will just have to take 1 game in Detroit and still be pretty golden to win

his plan was faking an injury for Ordonez or hoping someone else would get injured.  If you really think we did that then, you must be much have Leyland in low esteem ... better to be a doom gloom guy I suppose!

Then I guess I must be much have Leyland in low esteem. (Nice)  I felt on Friday that this would happen.  Not necessarily with Maggs, but somehow I felt Young would get back in.

in the context of MGoBlog. Why click all over to read different "forums" when we can all connect right here? Posters all seem pretty knowledgeable about Detroit sports teams. If you don't want to read about the Tigers here, don't click on the post.

Hey y'all. I love the Tigers and Jimmy Leyland as much as the next guy, but can someone explain to me why Verlander wouldn't start games 4 and 7 in this series. It looks like, even with the delay, Leyland is going with a four-man rotation. Please help me understand why we wouldn't use the most lethal weapon in Major League Baseball three times in this series. Thanks!

Current rotation assignments:

10/8 - Verlander, Game 1
10/9 - OFF
10/10 - Scherzer, Game 2
10/11 - Fister, Game 3
10/12 - Porcello, Game 4
10/13 - Verlander, Game 5
10/14 - OFF
10/15 - Scherzer, Game 6
10/16 - Fister, Game 7

I think Leyland has faith in his other starters and figures Verlander will be better with the extra days  rest. Another factor may be having JV ready and fresh for game 1 of the WS should the Tigers make it. If JV is to pitch in a game 7, it most likely will be in the WS.

JV pitched a career high 251. innings in the regular season and has logged another 12 so far in the post season and would have more except for rain. If JV were to pitch 3 games in the WS he would be pushing close to 300 innings for the season. It ain't like Leyland is babying him.

I'm guessing that Young will try to gut through at least one game in Texas, then maybe they bring in Dirks or Thomas once the game is back in Detroit.  Tough break for Maggs, but at least Detroit has a reasonable short-term substitute.
