Honey Badger

This board is absolutely brutal - it's like Lord of the Flies. There is a handful of Karen's just waiting to pounce on any little issue with a post...punctuation, didn't post URL correctly, or any little thing. I got hammered in my WMU post because I didn't link the URL correctly.  98% of the participants of this board have productive thoughts that I love to read. The other 2% are Karens with too much time. Like it or hate what I said, Honey Badger don't care.

This reminds me of NANOG(North America Network Operations Group).   People will make a presentation on something that has to do with Networking Infrastructure.  During Q&A the peanut gallery will come out to show how clever they are by showing how stupid you are because you did not consider "THAT!"

I was reading MGoBlog in a bar in Toledo, and the woman sitting next to me said to her husband, "Look! He's reading MGoBlog!" It was a good thing, as both were M fans.

He said right away, "I would never post on that blog! I would be afraid of making a grammar mistake!"

But he loves reading here and actually kind of liked the high standards we have for that sort of thing. Not everyone is a hater of M arrogance/excellence in all things

If I'm a recruit, and Coach Prime sends me a text, that text gets returned. He is likely to draw some excellent recruiting classes. Prime is dynamic and self-assured, and draws a lot of attention, but we could say the same of Jim Harbaugh.

In a very short time, he did a ton for HBCU football and for Jackson State. We've seen for ourselves how difficult it is to go undefeated through a season, and he managed that. If he doesn't last long-term at CU, it's likely because a blueblood offered him ALL the pennies.

As Jason Whitlock pointed out, Sanders was able to quickly succeed at Jackson St. because his star power attracted players who were far more talented than their competitors. He won’t have that extreme talent mismatch advantage at Colorado. He’s going to have to coach and build a full program. We’ll see.

Yeah, 2022 Colorado by SP+ was the worst P5 team since 2015 Kansas.  And they were worse than every MAC team this year but one (Akron).  They just need immediate roster help and Deion should bring that at the very least, and then maybe a few of those players will stay on when Deion inevitably leaves.  Might as well go all in.

100% agree.  Deion is a good hire for Colorado, not because he's necessarily going to succeed (or stick around long-term), but because CU is so historically awful that taking a big risk isn't a bad idea.  The PAC-12 is a weaker P5 conference and about to get much weaker, so a 2-year turnaround job isn't implausible at all.

It's all fun and games until Deion steals one or multiple of our targets. Brian Robinson for instance given his recent Twitter activity (which obviously take with a grain of salt).

I'm just saying tread carefully friends

I meant his college coaching career.  His team improved on the field each year and he want 12-0 this year.

You can say that he had superior talent but that is sort of the point.  Plus, ND had superior talent to at least 9 of the teams they played (and maybe 11 teams).

You also have a coach like Steve Sarkisian that always seems to have superior talent and finish with 5-8 wins each year.

Freeman has been at least a position coach in college since 2011, and Rees has been one since 2017, and both of those have been at the P5 level.  Sanders has been coaching in college for 2 years at Jackson St., an HBCU where his ability to attract FBS-level talent allowed him to dominate.  He absolutely won't have that advantage at CU, a school without much local talent and playing against opponents with better players and far more resources.

I don't know if Freeman or Rees are good coaches but Freeman took a team that was ranked in the top-5, weathered some rough stretches, and still had them finish in the top 25 against a tough schedule.  Sanders might be a good coach but he's not even accomplished that much.

Who created the rough patches?

Brian Kelly was 54-9 his last five seasons at Notre Dame and 21-3 in last two seasons.  The rough patches started when Freeman took over and Rees lost his mentor.

What was Jackson State before Sanders got there?  Why do people assume he won’t level up in recruiting at Colorado?  He got the #1 recruit in the 2022 class to go the FCS.  I bet he has a top 10 class in 2024.

They had some early struggles because he is a first time coach and maybe, just maybe, ND wasn't a top five team and got that designation to ramp up interest in an opening week game against OSU.  And Freeman has been a great recruiter thus far, so he might pick it up next year.

I never said he couldn't ramp up recruiting at CU but lots of coaches are charming and fun, but they don't all pull in elite classes and, just as importantly, keep them.  Pulling in Travis Hunter was huge and we'll see if he can replicate that at CU.  But if you're going to act like Freeman and Rees can't coach because they went 8-4 against one of the tougher schedules in the country while assuming Sanders is going to pull in top 10 classes I'm allowed to push back against certain assumptions.

I think the "took a top 5 team" argument is bogus. They were overrated last season and it carried over into this season. They had a pretty flawed offensive roster. They had some bad losses (Stanford, Marshall) but they feasted on some overrated ACC teams and played tough with OSU.

Freeman has his program in the Top 25, has the #3 class for 2023 and #2 class for 24 so far. His program is likely to be a major threat in the future.

I hate Deion so much. He's going to end up being the Penny Hardaway of college football. His offer graphics say "YOU'VE BEEN OFFERED BY COACH PRIME" which is one of the most obnoxious things ever. Not Colorado, but Coach Prime. Feel bad for the kids who are being convinced into think Sanders and that program have any chance, especially after a 1-11 season
