Danny O'Brien [has not made an] Announcement

Submitted by sportzfan81 on

With his decision in the near future (10/6), might our class be one person closer to filling up? I have read that he isnt supposed to take his official to Tennessee until after this decision date. How can that not be good news for the maize and blue?

Considering he knows where he's going to commit to since he set a date, I would imagine no one has an "edge," I would imagine one team has a commanding lead.  Anyone who words it that way probably doesn't know.

that makes sense, the article was also published before his announcement date was set in stone. Ondre Pipkins also tweeted earlier today asking his followers if Danny O'Brien commited to Michigan, hopefully that doesn't have him second guessing his own commitment because the idea of both of them on that Defensive line is scary for future opponents.

"Ace Williams"...you have been outed.

Introducing Mark Slattery, former UM Student, Sigma Phi Epsilon brother, and village idiot.  Turns out you aren't a Yale grad, industrial engineer, or NYC resident.  Mark simply lives in his mother's basement out in California, making ridiculous predictions and passing them off as fact.  Nice knowing you buddy...your reign of terror over UM football is over.

Hey Walter Kronkite, great investigative journalism, but I'm not Ace Williams. Went to UM, was in SigEp (and actually a brother sent this along to me), and don't live in my parent's basement (CA doesn't do basements). I do write for Chat Sports, but about Lakers and UCLA, and clearly all of my info is visible, even with a non-fake picture!: http://www.chatsports.com/writer/Mark-Slattery. They recently allowed me to post articles about Michigan, because I went there, but haven't done anything yet. Don't know who Ace is, don't really care, but keeping sitting behind your computer stalking a blogger...

I'm also a Californian and can verify mslatts contention that CA doesn't do basements. It's one of the things I miss the most about Michigan, besides my family and UofM. A word to all you Michiganders out there, cherish your basements. Enjoy your basement beer pong games, your ability to put a pool table in your house, and a room that stays cool even in the hottest summer days. Fill up that basement refrigerator. Be glad your copper plumbing is readily accessible. In California, they bury that stuff under a concrete slab. Makes for a $$$ repair when they inevitably start leaking due to all the shaking going on out here.

Ah, Ace, nice to hear from you.

Since you now admitted you write for Chat Lakers, do you want to explain why "Ace Williams" twitter handle posted links to your Lakers articles merely seconds after you posted them on Chat Sports?  If you are not, as you say, "Ace Williams," you must have some sort of relationship with him.  Care to explain?

Last time I'll respond to you, cause my responses (somehow, unlike your posts) are deemed "flamebait"... I write for Chat Sports, so does this Ace guy. The guy who runs Chat Sports, as I'm sure you've already "researched" is James Yoder. They hire writers and communicate via phone and email. Their office is in San Francisco. I've never met him. I've never met any of the other writers. I've posted other writers articles on my personal twitter and facebook pages when I've liked them. I can only assume that's what Ace did with a past Lakers post that I wrote.

If you keep stalking me, you can see that I've written numerous things around the blogosphere, all with my own name. I don't do breaking news, or have sources. It's all my own opinion and reactions.

If you hate this guy so much, why waste time and go through all of that trouble? Maybe just email the higher ups at Chat Sports. They have an "about us" page with all of their info. Or maybe just continue to blast random people you don't know cause you made a flimsy connection, and figue you could be the Julian Assange of mgoblog...

He already has his mind made up that he wants to commit to Tennessee, and is just going to use his official visit to get more acquainted with the coaches and players......

Yeah, it seems like we as fans always read this optimistically.  When people schedule officials to UM after their announcement date, people assume it's us because why else would he want to visit a school he's not committed to after his announcement?  When it's another school that is scheduled after his announcement, we assume that it can't be that school because who would commit to a school before they've gone on their visit?

I think he commits to Michigan, but it has nothing to do with his announcement date or the schools he does or doesn't have visits scheduled to after that annoucement.

At first I thought how you were thinking, it can only be a good sign. I then got to thinking, why would he have a scheduled visit for after his decision, unless thats where he's going to commit too.

now they're saying it's a weird recruitment.

For me, this is an Occam's Razor issue.  He's committing on the 6th.  He's visiting Tennessee the next week.  That seems to point in one direction for me.  If he cancels his Tennessee visit, I'll feel differently.

FWIW, doesn't he have a visit set up to ol' Sparty as well for after his announcement date?  I mean Sparty is out of it and they wouldn't accept O'Brien's commitment since he is an instate guy.  And as we all know, they recruit nationally.

But in all seriousness doesn't he have a visit planned/scheduled to Sparty or was it cancelled or did I dream this up or am I going crazy! AHHHHH PRESSURE!

Will just be gravy if O'Brien drops for Michigan.

Tenn has been his leader for quite some time.  No reason for him to keep his official if he's not committing to Tenn.

Hemmy hasn't really changed his tune on O'Brien...Michigan made up ground, may have caught up, but Tenn has been the leader since they first offerred.

To be honest, I could see him committing to Michigan and cancelling his official to UT. He pushed up his decision date after the UM-ND game, so that has to be a pretty good sign.. (Unless your name is Steven Elmer, and Michigan winning that game pissed you off)

I see both sides of the coin on this one.  One thing we can look at is that these young athletes love to toy with the fans.  They love the attention that comes along with being recruited to a high profile D1 football program.  I try not to invest too much into whether or not we'll get a certain guy or not.  Then there's no let down in the end.  My question would be, if O'Brien does commit to UT, where do the Michigan coaches turn to?

I think it's unlikely Michigan takes another DT.  I think the "2 DT" thing is limited to O'Brien.  I'd guess they try to use the scholarship to land one of the Garnett/Banner/Wright/Dunn/Darboh/Payton group.
