Daily's Nesbitt wins B1G Student Journalist of the Year
Just saw per the Michigan Daily's tweet that Michigan Daily's sports editor Stephen Nesbitt won the 2012 William R. Reed Award as Student Journalist of the Year...
Congrats to him! Their football coverage is always entertaining, and he wrote some great pieces the last year, very deserved...
Agreed. Congratulations to Stephen!
Congrats. I'd rather read the Daily than the Freep or DetNews anyday. Part of it is because it's focused almost entirely on material I'm interested in, but these kids aren't quite worried about sales and clicks quite yet. Just trying to put out honest and credible work so they can have great samples to present in interviews and resumes.
...journalistic talent and is ably carrying on the impressive legacy of the Michigan Daily's Sports section. I expect he will have tremendous success post-grad.
Here's his piece de resistance, IMO: 10/26 profile of David Molk and his late mother
ESPN ran something of a copy and paste of the opening section right before the Sugar Bowl in January.
That video just about got the waterworks going for me before the Sugar Bowl....and then Molk didn't come out for the opening snap and I got scared. Glad to find the origin now.
I have been impressed with Stephen's work all year and am glad he is getting recognized for it.
Is he now writing articles for the Pittsburg Post Gazette?
He's interning there, apparently.
He has done a great job for the Daily. I continue to be impressed by the talent the Daily produces especially considering Michigan does not have a formal School of Journalism.
The Daily basically is a journalism school on its own. It's not easy to move up the ladder. Only the most accomplished sportswriters get to cover the glamour sports.
The Daily sports section has an impressive history including Rich Eisen & Adam Shefter (and locally, Wojo from the Detroit News), and I'm to see the tradition continuing.
This is two years in a row that the Daily has had the winner. Nicole Auerbach, who now works for USA Today, won last year.
NBD.
The Daily has been doing a better job of covering Michigan sports than any of the "professional media" in the state have for quite a while now. Congrats to Stephen Nesbitt for a job well done and a well-deserved award.
