Not mario ojemudia...

Let me fix that for you straight away.

don't believe me? Pull up a picture of the guy. He's wearing his number but it's clearly not him. My guess is Chris Wormley.
August 11th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
C'mon, man!!!
August 11th, 2012 at 11:30 AM ^
It's definitely Chris Wormley (#43)...judging by the skin tone and size of the guy.

Roh got himself submarined (too low? didn't get his hands up fast enough), and Lewan basically pinned him down. Is Taylor allowed to have his arm around Craig if that happens?
At first I was a little concerned the D didn't seem to be winning enough. But, when you look at the names in the matchups I feel a little better.

yes, Roh got too low and dropped his head... Taylor locked up on him but it was unavoidable because Roh dove down. I doubt very much....that would be a holding call on Taylor, though with Big Ten officials...you never know.
August 11th, 2012 at 11:04 AM ^
I think it might be Hopkins at running back. The back in the clip has short dreads and a number that ends in three.

the first day of pads... man I miss it. I remember I thought about not playing one year but practice was held in the park behind my house. I heard that tell-tale 'crack' from my upstairs bathroom and was begging coach to let me suit up 20 minutes later. I love this game.

I'm not one for wild speculation but...Drake Johnson looks like a running back. At 209 pounds, coupled with Fitz's indiscretions, maybe Drake Johnson doesn't redshirt.

He really belongs on the other side of the ball.
August 11th, 2012 at 11:04 AM ^
Yes, I am. I was just going to post pretty much exactly what you said. As a high school coach, sometimes negative plays stick out more than positive ones from a drill standpoint. Q Washingotn, imo, looked really bad. Its only day 1 in pads, and it was just 3 minutes worth of drills. He will get better. On a positive note, Blake Countess is going to be an absolute stud.

Exactly, it's day 1. But still the technique and leverage werent there. Again, you cant base how a player is going to do off of one drill. He has 3 excellent coaches that know more than all of us combined that will help correct his mistakes. Like you mentioned, if nothing else, we need him to be a viable guy in the rotation. I believe he will be. Its still early.

Sure, it is Lewan (a future first rounder). But, Roh is a four year starter and he got buried.
/end unnecessary pre-season panic.

I love it how these videos wet our appetite without actually showing much. I believe we saw one projected starter at D-line that whole video, and that was Roh against Lewan. Even that doesnt show us much because I doubt anyone has much success against our future 1st round draft pick. We see a lot of stuff, but not enought to actually glean useful info from. Fort Schembechler indeed

It should be "whet," not "wet."

1:06 - Usually, if someone gets beat, reactions are either "Whoever won is good! National Championship!" or "Whoever lost is bad! 0-12!". This play is just good football by both players, and I love reps like that!
August 11th, 2012 at 12:33 PM ^
I could (and will) watch that all day!
EDIT: Question. To "win" the drill does the D need to tackle the RB before he gets through the cones or just slow him down?

and probably a pointless exercise but wtf, the next bes thread is about a garage sale. There should probably be a draw option as well. You could argue Kovacs didn't win that one because he didn't get off the block. I think I put him down as winner because he totally clogged the running lane - and I also really like him.

whos is that coach at the end of Josh Furman's rep at 2:55, he looks exactly like Dileo (especially since they interview Dileo right after)
August 11th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
Curt Mallory. Intense.
August 11th, 2012 at 3:10 PM ^
Still doin his thing! I loved it. He can't disengage, but so what. He'll just steer his man right into the back.
Even as a senior, it still feels unfair to make Craig Roh, or anybody else, do drills against Lewan.
August 11th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
Great video! Pipkins, Hawthorne and Thomas Gordon all impressive getting off blocks and making solo tackles. good stuff.
Where was Thomas Rawls?
