Denard had a great pass at 0:35.... although his throwing motion wasn't that great. Also, Brennan Beyer is tall!

Meh, that's results-oriented thinking. I've cringed every time I've seen him do something like that for two years now. Hopefully, we don't see much of that this year because that was ugly.

It was ugly, but it fell right into the receiver's hands, who was open. If he does that all year, I won't be complaining.

These videos are getting way old at this point. At least last year we had some great 5 minute plus clips of practice or scrimmages. Now all we get is Karsch asking the same recycled questions, getting the same obviously coached and rehearsed answers from the players. Meh.
In other news, Mattison looks great - he apparently lost some poundage.
Did anyone else spontaneously convulse when they saw a QB numbered 8 take a snap? Bellomy should do something about that.

Bellomy is number 8. Unless I am reading your post wrong...
Edit: Did read it wrong, my apology.

Don't remind me that it is a night game and I have to wait all day.

I read somehting about a week ago (or maybe a video?) where Borges said that teams fear Denard in the pocket more than rolling out. While I don't know if that is ALWAY true, I see what Borges is saying: with Denard being about one and a half steps from full speed staying in the pocket makse sense because he has more scrambling options (Versus allowing the defense to force him to one side of the field)-- plus, he keeps at leas one LB occupied by just possibility of running. Theoretically, Denard should have the middle of the field OPEN, yo, since the defense's number one focus is "contain Denard". Personally, I wouldn't mind the occasional three to five step drops and a hot route to the middle with the occasional TE/RB flair option on the outside on every play under center. Of course, Shotgun FTW, but still.

DOUGLAS ALLEN KARSCH THE THIRD, "BESTA" IS NOT A WORD!

It seems as if many of the defensive players that have been interviewed in particular are pretty much on message about "toughness" and "consistency", but this is a great thing because it indicates that you have a staff that is effective at setting goals and developing talent. Particularly on the defensive line, having two former line coaches and Montgomery out there has to be an advantage to Beyer, as well as what he is picking up from Roh.
I didn't realize he'd put on nearly thirty pounds to get ready for the season - that's some significant dedication really, between the diet and training and practices.

In that interview, Beyer said that he switched positions from last year. I believe he is not the starting WDE this year. What position did he play last year?
August 21st, 2012 at 11:18 AM ^
Strongside LB...even though it was in the BEAR package so he was really a 3rd DE on the field.
SLB and WDE are very similar...which is why Jake Ryan plays both. 3-Tech and 5-Tech (DT and SDE) are also similar which is why RVB and Heininger played both last year.

Does anyone else think Brennen Beyer is going to play better than expected at his new position?
August 21st, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
I dont know... He doesnt seem terribly explosive, and I'll be he has to get a whole lot bigger/stronger before he's good in the run game
