Cornelius "CJ" Johnson Wowing Gattis
In Gattis' interview yesterday he stated that CJ Johnson is really wowing him in practice. Mentioned hes opening eyes similar to what Sainristil did during Spring.
Also noted Tarik Black turned it up a notch this fall.
Sounds like the receiver position is in good shape!

Now we just need to get the ball in their hands this season.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
Please don't reference the shit show that is The Last Jedi anymore.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
Agreed. I'm as big a Star Wars fan as they come, and I've vowed I'll only see that movie once in my entire life. The first time.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:08 AM ^
Me too. It was tough even getting through it the first time I saw it. It was embarrassingly bad.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
It's actually really good.
At first, for about 24 hours after it opened, I thought that views to the contrary were just the usual hipster cool-to-hate-Star Wars stuff.
Then I realized that people weren't buying the Luke character change. Which, sure, I can see that. It's a radical character change, and if you don't buy it, then the storytellers did a bad job. But if you can get past that - and if you also can get past its slightly anti-male characters and story - and evaluate it on its own terms, then it's actually really good. Spectacular art, very thoughtful and deliberate, super cinematography, acting, etc.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:49 AM ^
I thought Luke's change of heart about the Force was the second-most interesting twist of the entire saga. Kudos to the screenwriting for not going the obvious route. The problem I had with Last Jedi was more about the unecessary plot tangents that didn't advance the story.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
They advanced the theme, though, and that was one of the things that was great about TLJ, in my opinion.
Can we talk about the fish spearing scene? He uses a mile long pole to spear a fish for some goddamn reason, then they just cut away and he's holding the fish...
How did he get the fish off the end of the pole? Did he slide all the way down, grab it, and climb back up? Did he pull the pole up gradually and take the fish off the end? Where did he get such a long pole? Why doesn't he just use a shorter pole? Why am I at this movie and why did I pay $40 for it?
Where the hell are you watching movies that it costs you $40 is the better question
August 9th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
East Coast cities are expensive yo. 2 tickets at like $13 apiece plus taxes and stupid fuckin fees for buying online
I’m guessing your less than 30 years old...that movie kinda made me less of a Star Wars fan as a whole...it was that bad.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Me? I wish I was less than 30 years old. I graduated UM in 93 so... I'm old.
The main problem with TLJ is Rose. That character is awful. Also dumb logic. If we can Now light speed into other, much larger ships, to destroy them. We should probably have used that before. Should have just light speeded into the Death Star.
I actually LOVED the final throne room scene. But that was leas than 10 minutes of the movie lol.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
I completely agree about the light speed kamikaze tactic. But I assume they will retcon it into something reasonable like the Death Star being blown up by one shot.
The acting was good... for a 5yr old... and the script wasn't much better. Michigan isn't the greatest arts school (save music) so lets leave that stuff to CA and NY
August 8th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
I tried watching it a 2nd time when it was on Netflix and I gave up sometime around the horse racing casino scene. So bad
August 8th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
I think it was better than Force Awakens just because it was actually original, even if I didn't like the plot. TFA was just a remake of A New Hope. Not optimistic about Rise of Skywalker because JJ is back at the helm
August 8th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
Can’t second this hard enough. Force Awakens was wholly banal, sending the franchise nowhere. The table was so poorly set for Last Jedi, I think they did OK to at least come up with something. Of course taking the hero of the entire saga and just doing THAT with him ain’t great neither.
JJA has a pretty clear track record.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
Of writing himself into corners?
Yep. By remaking A New Hope, JJ put Rian Johnson into a corner. He could either do the conservative thing and just make something similar to Empire or he could try to turn the saga on its head and try to make it so SW wasn't what you thought it was all about. He chose the latter and I commend him for his bravery even if I don't think it worked out in the end. Rise of Skywalker sounds like it's just going to try and undo what Johnson did and I have no hopes that it's going to be an actually good movie. Entertaining? Sure, just like most of the Marvel movies are entertaining. But it'll most just be cool scenes with no interesting plot.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:19 PM ^
Both of those movies sucked. There hasn't been a good Star Wars in years.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
Rogue one was mostly good. That's it.
Rogue One is my second favorite SW movie of all time (behind Empire). I think it's very well done, even if it's a little slow in the beginning. I think it would have been even better had they not brought in Tony Gilroy for reshoots. The first trailer - where it looked like it was going to be dark as fuck - was the version of the movie I really wanted to see.
I also think Solo was on its way to being a decent movie until they brought back a certain character in the end. I'd rather watch Solo than TFA
Solo was 'on its way' to being a good movie before that character shows up at the end? How do you mean that? That character was only in the movie for the last two minutes or so. I can't see how the phrase 'on its way' works for something that's 98% done.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
By referencing it yourself, you became the very thing you set out to destroy.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:16 AM ^
Considering who Gattis has coached so far in his career, I'll take this as good news. Good news, indeed...
Now, if these guys are going to get on the field they'll have to cut in to the PT of DPJ, Collins, and Black. There's only so much PT available, right? If they can do that... Holy hell!!!
August 8th, 2019 at 11:08 AM ^
Perhaps another reason to go no-huddle and increase the number of offensive snaps. More PT for all the talent.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:23 PM ^
....or at least no huddles where it seems like we're hashing out the lingering modern consequences of the Treaty Of Westphalia or something like that.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
Using an bit of 17th Century European history as an analogy for a slow tempo offense?
That's the Michigan Difference.
I would actually be interested in knowing what the outcome of that huddle was. I've never thought about this question, but now that you've brought it to my attention, it's my No.1 concern.
Moeller ran a no huddle. It wasn't hurry up, but it was killing teams. That's a lot of pressure to put on a defense when they can't sub guys out and the QB can take as much time as he wants to figure out where he wants to go with the ball.
Maybe getting them ready to take over next year is also important.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:17 AM ^
I'll take "4 man routes" for $1000 Alex.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Who is Marcus Knight, Tai Streets, Charles Woodson and Russell Shaw?
August 8th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
So he's basically Calvin "CJ" Johnson, but faster, yes?
August 8th, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
I'd even be thrilled with an as fast as or slightly slower Calvin! Dude borrowed someone's shoes, laced em up and ran a 4.35 forty at the combine. Freak of nature at that size.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:11 AM ^
You are thinking of Neon Deon. Calvin didn't borrow anyone's shoes.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
That's right. He ran barefoot through mud, and still ran so fast that he went back in time.
"...cornerbacks around the NFLmust have cringed when they heard that."
Can confirm. Everytime I ever saw Johnson play, some CB was lowering his eyes and begging 'not in the face' whenever CJ lined up against a tight cover. That guy was pretty good at footballing...
Peanut Tillman disagrees
https://www.espn.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/57661/bbao-charles-tillman-vs-calvin-johnson
Edit: Can't actually check the audio, I know they had a ton of respect for each other. But Peanut was good
Sorry your argument is defeated as the other guy used bolded text to respond.
August 8th, 2019 at 11:18 AM ^
Actually, Calvin loaned his shoes to QB James Pinkney at the combine.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
He left Freddie "Jack Town" Jackson speechless.
August 8th, 2019 at 10:24 AM ^
Somehow, until yesterday with Gattis' talking about him, Cornelius Johnson had gone under the radar. Which was a real head scratcher. He was fantastic in high school. His highlights make you want to break out the popcorn!!
Here's the video. Enjoy! https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5467954/5bbc1764dfe27702c8478f1e

It would make some sense if he wasn't an early enrollee. If he reported to campus in July it means he wasn't around for spring camp.
August 8th, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
There was lots of talk about Mazi Smith, Daxton Hill, and Zach Charbonnet long before they got on campus.
Dax Hill is a 5 star and Mazi and Charbonnet were EE.
