Cornelius "CJ" Johnson Wowing Gattis

Submitted by UMich2016 on August 8th, 2019 at 10:08 AM

In Gattis' interview yesterday he stated that CJ Johnson is really wowing him in practice.  Mentioned hes opening eyes similar to what Sainristil did during Spring.

Also noted Tarik Black turned it up a notch this fall.

Sounds like the receiver position is in good shape!

It's actually really good.

At first, for about 24 hours after it opened, I thought that views to the contrary were just the usual hipster cool-to-hate-Star Wars stuff.

Then I realized that people weren't buying the Luke character change. Which, sure, I can see that. It's a radical character change, and if you don't buy it, then the storytellers did a bad job. But if you can get past that - and if you also can get past its slightly anti-male characters and story - and evaluate it on its own terms, then it's actually really good. Spectacular art, very thoughtful and deliberate, super cinematography, acting, etc.

I thought Luke's change of heart about the Force was the second-most interesting twist of the entire saga. Kudos to the screenwriting for not going the obvious route. The problem I had with Last Jedi was more about the unecessary plot tangents that didn't advance the story.

Can we talk about the fish spearing scene? He uses a mile long pole to spear a fish for some goddamn reason, then they just cut away and he's holding the fish...

How did he get the fish off the end of the pole? Did he slide all the way down, grab it, and climb back up? Did he pull the pole up gradually and take the fish off the end? Where did he get such a long pole? Why doesn't he just use a shorter pole? Why am I at this movie and why did I pay $40 for it?

The main problem with TLJ is Rose. That character is awful. Also dumb logic. If we can Now light speed into other, much larger ships, to destroy them. We should probably have used that before. Should have just light speeded into the Death Star.

I actually LOVED the final throne room scene. But that was leas than 10 minutes of the movie lol.

Can’t second this hard enough. Force Awakens was wholly banal, sending the franchise nowhere. The table was so poorly set for Last Jedi, I think they did OK to at least come up with something. Of course taking the hero of the entire saga and just doing THAT with him ain’t great neither.

JJA has a pretty clear track record.

Yep. By remaking A New Hope, JJ put Rian Johnson into a corner. He could either do the conservative thing and just make something similar to Empire or he could try to turn the saga on its head and try to make it so SW wasn't what you thought it was all about. He chose the latter and I commend him for his bravery even if I don't think it worked out in the end. Rise of Skywalker sounds like it's just going to try and undo what Johnson did and I have no hopes that it's going to be an actually good movie. Entertaining? Sure, just like most of the Marvel movies are entertaining. But it'll most just be cool scenes with no interesting plot.

Rogue One is my second favorite SW movie of all time (behind Empire). I think it's very well done, even if it's a little slow in the beginning. I think it would have been even better had they not brought in Tony Gilroy for reshoots. The first trailer - where it looked like it was going to be dark as fuck - was the version of the movie I really wanted to see.

I also think Solo was on its way to being a decent movie until they brought back a certain character in the end. I'd rather watch Solo than TFA

Solo was 'on its way' to being a good movie before that character shows up at the end? How do you mean that? That character was only in the movie for the last two minutes or so. I can't see how the phrase 'on its way' works for something that's 98% done.

Considering who Gattis has coached so far in his career, I'll take this as good news.  Good news, indeed...

Now, if these guys are going to get on the field they'll have to cut in to the PT of DPJ, Collins, and Black.  There's only so much PT available, right?  If they can do that...  Holy hell!!!

"...cornerbacks around the NFLmust have cringed when they heard that."

Can confirm.  Everytime I ever saw Johnson play, some CB was lowering his eyes and begging 'not in the face' whenever CJ lined up against a tight cover.  That guy was pretty good at footballing...
