Congrats to Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., and MICHIGAN Men's Basketball

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Many of us are either extremely excited or disappointed based on what NBA team (if any) we root for.

But let's not lose sight of the fact that MICHIGAN had two players selected in the first round of the NBA Draft tonight. Clearly both Trey and Tim made the right decision, and I hope it pays off with a long and successful careers in the NBA. Congrats to both...and MOST IMPORTANTLY...THANK YOU!

You both TRULY put Michigan Basketball back on the map, I for one will be forever grateful. It was a pleasure watching both of these guys play and represent Michigan in a positive manner.

We went to the frickin National Championship Game! We have the Most Outstanding Player. We had the play of the NCAA Tournament. These guys led the way for an amazing run and they'll forever be missed. For many, the most fun year they've ever had rooting for Michigan.

THANKS GUYS...WE'LL MISS YOU! Best of luck. GO BLUE!

Actually the spacing looks good to me. Lets see if my phone makes real spaces.
So, drafted at 24 by a playoff team we think he can contribute to, in retrospect its obvious that THJ would have been foolish to come back for another year.
We knew this was probably the right time. And he thought so. And he was right. Good for him!

Lets please not forget that Trey and Tim are John Beilein's first 1st round draft picks that he has both recruited and coached through to completion (the outlier I'm accounting for is Joe Alexander at WVU).  I think this year and next year (assuming GRIII and MM declare) will be the first of several years of Michigan putting players into the pros.  I think this impact can't be denied.

Go Blue, Beilein Uber Alles.

I totally forgot about the stretch from the 90's to early 2000's when you could make an All-Michigan video game team. Usually some combination of Rice, Mills, Vaught, Grant, Riley, Traylor, Taylor, Webber, Rose, Howard, King, Crawford, and Bullock (briefly). Perhaps I'll get back into NBA video games with the new crop of Michigan NBA players. I used to love beastin on games with Webber. Trying to get quintuple-doubles.

It had a create a player mode where you worked your way into the league through street games, and you gained points you could use to do drills that upgraded your ratings. I created this monster 7 foot guy and just hammered every single skill I could until he was basically one of the monstars from space jam.

I still never got the quintuple double in a standard length game. It was pretty easy if you increased the length of the game, especially if you took it to an actual, full length NBA game, but by that time I had him finishing with 200 points. It was not a very well balanced game...I just drove to the basket every time, sometimes I would kick it out to an open shooter, if the defense was playing too loose I would just start jacking up 3's because he was a 99 shooter from 3. It was wonderful. I would like to think at some point, Lebron did this too, and that's how he came up with his current style of play...

Maceo Baston was solid. That era of Michigan Basketball (sanctions aside) should have been much better. Baston, Ward, Taylor, and Traylor. Maaaaan. Tractor Traylor was one cool cat; a fat guy that could ball. Seeing him lay out Neil Reid on screens was amazing. RIP Tractor!

Couldn't have said it better myself. I graduated in 2010 and had to beg my buddies to go to bball games with me 08-09.  This year was the first time I'd ever been so invested in a team so deep into the tourney. These 2 guys made a name for the new basketball program at Michigan and should both remain legends.

Having two  players go in the first round like that, in my mind, is another validation of all the hard work that Beilein and his staff have put into the Michigan basketball program and making it a program that people talk about once again.

It is also a validation of all the hard work that Burke and Hardaway put in while they were here and how valuable those contributions were to a team that nearly won it all this past season. Two teams are getting these excellent Michigan players and hopefully they both have productive and well-decorated careers at the next level.

Good luck to Trey and Tim, and always Go Blue!

It was a great year for Michigan basketball. Looks like both the Jazz and Knicks are extremely excited to have Trey and Tim respectively

Looks like Knicks fans are generally positive about the THJr pick:

And Jazz fans are over the moon about getting Trey...

A selection of comments from their open thread:

If Burke to Utah is true, I'm getting blackout drunk tonight.

14 and 21 for Burke It’ll be worth it. This was the missing piece

LOVE LOVE LOVE Burke is such a stud. If all we had to do was swap first rounds to get him, then we officially win the draft.

woj says we lose both picks - For the top rated PG in the draft? I'll take it

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So after the draft, Trey's marketing team and my friend's dad's company put on a private event  in NYC for Trey's family and friends, and I and a bunch of friends got invites also. Bleacher Report showed up to make a video of Trey walking in and celebrating, the whole thing was really well put together, and it was an amazing time. He seemed pretty overwhelmed and exhausted by the time he showed up (about 1:30 am eastern time) but he was smiling and laughing the entire time.

Can't say enough about him and what he's done for our program, and I can only wish him the best of luck going forward. Considering Utah was an above-.500 team last year and just missed the playoffs, mostly because they were lacking a solid option at PG, I think it's a great situation for him.

And, naturally, being a Knicks fan, I was bouncing off the walls when we drafted THJ.

Forever Go Blue!
