Let's hope it's his last as full time.

Moving forward they just need to give him one segment and walk him out at the end to do his predictions.

He can't do an entire 3 hours. It's kind of sad watching him struggle.

In interviews, he has said that he wants to stay on as long as possible, at least recently. That being said, I have heard that since the stroke he no longer does the full segment (and I see that he is not on at the moment), and he often run through lists of words that might cause him trouble before he goes on the air. I am sure it is much more difficult that it once was, and of course he turned 80 last month.

It was a mess.

2 yards a carry
3 interceptions including a pick 6
Missed Field Goal
Offensive line getting absolutely zero push
Numerous blocking whiffs from offensive lineman to running backs to wide receivers
RB's running in quick sand with blind folds on
Linebackers are slow
Too many missed tackles
No pass rusher

I have no doubt it will get better with Harbaugh but as of right now, that looked like a Hoke coached team. The only difference was Rudock didn't take any 10+ yard sacks. That's a huge positive I suppose.

Same team outside of that.

QB made 3-4 bad throws and 3 of them ended up as bad as they could've.

The RB missed 2 obvious holes

WRs dropped 1 crucial pass

OL has no run blocking

LBs missed too many tackles

DBs were inconsistent in coverage at times

---------HOWEVER--------

QB commanded the huddle and actually showed promise

Utah's awesome RB ALSO struggled versus our front 7...that's what happens when you run against tough defenses!

WRs looked better than anyone could've hoped going into the game

OL looks good at pass blocking

DL destroyed everything

LBs were still in position and they're already proven

DBs showed flashes of greatness and Lewis shut off half the field

....mention the good stuff too. And the fact is, Utah is a VERY good team. Stop crying so much. The world didn't come to an end and anyone who knows anything about the sport could see the potential and promise from that team. We actually belonged on the same field as Utah. Last year was just hope and luck and them playing bad.

Give it a couple more weeks before you get all glum about everything.

QB commanded the huddle? Haha what? Grasping at straws man.

We were a good rush defense last year

WR looked better? Marginally better at best.

Offensive line was solid at pass blocking the last 2 years. This year we just have a qb who doesn't panic when his first option is covered.

I saw far more similarities to last year's team than differences. I have no doubt we will improve under Harbaugh but right now, I'm bummed not much has changed.

Mr. Yost

I for one was EXTREMELY nervous about the WRs...we have no playmakers. Most of us were hoping Drake Harris would turn into something because we didn't have confidence in Darboh/Chesson to be more than solid #2's.

Chesson and Darboh looked GOOD versus Utah. They got open and minus the one drop...they played well. Much better than I anticipated.

Maybe you just had blinders on and didn't realize we one 5 football games last year.

If you did...jokes on you.

Btw, way to not take the opponent, the venue or the fact that it was the first game of the year under a new coach into consideration.

Mr. Yost

Commanding the huddle...

How many delay of game penalties did we have? When Perry ran the wrong route and Rudock threw the first INT...what was Rudock's reaction with the freshman? Did we tank it from that point?

How many pre-snap alignment penalties did we get in the first game of the year with a brand new system? How did Rudock respond after some disasterous mistakes?

I watched Marquise Williams and UNC shit the bed after Williams through a TD in the endzone. They never recovered and they all looked defeated. Never saw that from Michigan.

Is commanding the huddle going to win you games? Maybe not...but it sure can LOSE you games. I saw it on Thursday, I've seen it in the past.

Leadership goes a long way from the QB position.

Mr. Yost

It was perfect that the game was on Thursday. That's 2 more days to watch film and get better and really treat that like a preseason game.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the home opener. Because that, to me, is going to tell us where we're headed. Home much can we improve week to week?

You need to get the hiccups and kinks out. I think we take the week to see what worked, what didn't, learn from mistakes, build chemistry and really use that as a quality scrimmage or preseason game and move forward.

If we struggle versus Oregon St. - I'll be concerned. If we roll, I'll be back to being cautiously optimistic about the season.

Thurs was a disappointing result and I'm throughly not impressed with the decision to bring in the 5th year Iowa 2nd stringer as the "savior" but we lost to the same team last year by 9 more points.

And last year was at home, was the 4th game of the season where we only managed to score 10 points, not the same at all.

But if the run game and QB situations continue to struggle it won't be good.

Mr. Yost

September 5th, 2015 at 9:29 AM ^

However, I saw improvement on Thursday and I'm geniunely excited about watching this Michigan team.

The past 2 years have been rough because he just weren't good. We couldn't sustain anything and every score (after the App St. game) felt like luck or we were just head and shoulders better. There was no plan and execution.

That was FUN on Thursday. That was the most fun I've had watching Michigan since the first year Denard was a full time starter.

All that said, I didn't think we'd win that game and I know we're getting better...so I'm okay with Thursday. We can still have a HUGE 10-2 year or great 9-3 year that folks with blinders on like me would gladly take. Utah is a tough team.

It's not like we lost to an awful team and that foreshadows the entire year. When we would struggle versus those MAC teams early in the year...THAT was depressing. That year when we played UConn and looked like shit all game? THAT was awful. And we won those.

This was a close game versus a Top 25 level team.

So I'm going to enjoy today, I think if we struggle NEXT Saturday I'm going to be depressed.

We're likely 8-4, but I'm holding out for 9-3 and I still think Utah looks like a "solid" loss (whatever that means) when you look back on it at the end of the year.

Had Utah been ranked in the preseason poll, even #25, would the post game reactions be as doom and gloomy as I've seen? The reactions I've seen so far makes me think people don't actually think Urah is as good as we say, or think that we're still coached by Hoke, or that it wasn't the very first game ever coached by Harbaugh at Michigan. I mean, many are focusing on the same shit we saw from last year's teams, but to me a new coach is never (or almost never) going to shake all tendencies out of a team in one year. So that's why focusing on what went right is the way better thing to do.

I don't get the emo. It was one loss in the non conference. Very little if any red flags after the game...much room for actual improvement. Nobody thought we'd compete for a natty this year...so why all the GD negativity????

Mr. Yost

September 5th, 2015 at 11:59 AM ^

You put #21-25 next to their name and I think people realize it a little more.

They've been talking about it on gameday...people still think Utah is in the Mountain West. No one takes them seriously and people this side of the Mississippi still see a "mid major."

They're legitimate. World beaters? No. But solid. A little more solid than Michigan right now.

They didn't destroy us...we just lost all 6 of the crucial plays in the game (the INTs and the 3 overthrows from TDs). You can't go 0-6 with those plays. I thought outside of those 6 plays we played them even.

Even if all 6 of those possessions ended in successful punts we have a REAL shot to win the game. But it's not a game of "what ifs"...we lost all 6 plays and lost the game by a touchdown.

We fix that...learn how to win those critical plays. We win games versus solid teams, on the road, in front of hostile crowds.

That, to me, is a lot more simple than last year where we just had to get more talented, had to develop the talent, and had to be better as an entire team (coaching, ability, everything).

Last year we had plenty of games where the QB could throw zero INTs and we still had no shot.

6 plays. Let's learn how to win them and see what happens. I think we'd be a pretty solid football team.

Games of some interest to me:

  1. Louisville at Auburn - general interest, might be a good game
  2. Virginia at UCLA - wife went to UVA, but I'm kinda-sorta a UCLA fan
  3. BYU at Nebraska - scoping out Michigan competition
  4. NMSU at Florida - support for Florida buddy who has suffered with me lately
  5. Wisconsin at Alabama - to see what Alabama looks like

My wife has accepted the fact Saturday is my day for college football.  She's a keeper.

Mr. Yost

Because that has so much to do with today's day full of solid college football games.

Sam Ponder also talked to a bunch of kids about something.

No, you didn't miss anything. It's just good background noise if you're making breakfast. Get the DVR out and rewind if you hear anything interesting...at least that's what I do.

I wanted him to be Hoke's OC...he was the QB coach and passing game coordinator at Stanford. Went to Boise and now he's at ND.

He's going to be VERY good.

Mr. Yost

It was fine at 2 hours...but the bigger issue is that in this TMZSports era they only focus on the big "trending" stories and they never cover the rest of college football.

College Gameday used to cover EVERY single game around the country. Now it's just the SEC and top games/stories.

That, more than the 3 hours is the worst part in my mind.

And yes, the song sucks.
