You can tell he is still agitated with Gard. He apologized to pretty much everyone and said he would like to speak with the asst face to face and then kind of added in Gard’s name at the end but I don’t think that’s a priority for him to speak with Gard.

It's great to hear him take responsibility for his actions, to hear him say he will learn from this. Now that he's back on the sidelines, let's go Blue! We got a lot of basketball to play, hopefully! Time to make some good impressions!

neat to see how much he cares for martelli - gave him goose bumps just talking about it.

emotional guy, very good heart, very talented.  no more shoving matches and we should be in great shape.

The silver lining to the whole thing was Martelli being in the spotlight for a couple of weeks. Hearing him after the Rutgers and MSU wins was special. Not to compare to or slight Howard at all, but Martelli is different. He's been around college basketball forever, and was humble and genuine. It was like listening to my dad or grandfather speak.

Howard is younger and has his own style that's equally reassuring. How lucky we are to have our coaches instead of guys like Izzo, Gard, Underwood or McCaffrey, each of who always looks like he's one play away from throwing a player into the stands

I’m no defender of Izzo. Far from it.  But, first, there’s no way you can know it won’t happen again with Juwan (whom I like very much, which kind of makes his blow-ups worse). Second, you can’t use Izzo to downplay what Howard has done. If you want to play the comparison game, which is the game you started, that’s going to be a tough one to win. Taking a swing at an opposing coach is just a big no-no, which is why we shouldn’t play the comparison game, which was my point. If you’re going to make comparisons without maize-and-blue lenses on, our guy doesn’t look so great. I hope his outbursts are behind him. We will see.

To me that was uncomfortable. I regret that he has to. . . abase himself like that. He has enough dignity and self-respect to overcome this, but. . . dunno. . . I don't feel that all of the Wisconsin involvement in that affair really got addressed. Glad it's over.

As a coach and teacher of young adults - there is no point where pushing/slapping another is appropriate… especially when true self defense was not at stake. I don’t care what is said or how, save the frustration for the locker room or the drive home. It is the price of being in the profession.

That's big of you but that assistant came looking for a fight and pushed against opposing players that already separated both parties. There's history of dirty play from Wisconsin, and it's a highly physical sport at a, dare I say, higher level than you're at.

Let's not let it happen again and move on.

Always think it’s funny when someone says they could but won’t make excuses and then lists all the excuses.

Overall I hope he means what he said and actually invests in making the change he needs to handle his anger better.

Contrition was shown.

I also disagree with the "can't mention any excuses" thought. Juwan clearly gave a disclaimer they were just excuses, and then went on to focus on other aspects.

Coach Howard deserves all the love he’s getting from the people who actually know him-  his players, his assistant coaches, and coaching peers within and without the Michigan Athletic Department.  What he doesn’t deserve is all the sanctimonious bs from alleged fans who post stuff like ‘I’m happy he learned his lesson,” etc.

Loved his shout out to Coach Martelli near the end when Juwan got choked up.  Raw emotions.  You know that he loves his coaches and players.  Glad to have him back and I am glad to hear him apologize and work on getting better.  Good stuff.

Boeheim kid, unprovoked, gives a sneaky deliberate sucker punch in the gut to opposing player;  gets a one-day suspension.  Hmmm… https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/33461954/syracuse-guard-buddy-boeheim-appears-strike-florida-state-player-acc-tournament-game

Let’s face it.  We all have eyes and the punishments in certain places will,”never” be the same.  Welcome back coach.  This isn’t your first rodeo.  You received mail from your own fans when you were a player and now you’re coaching.  You knew exactly why and what you were getting into.  Now go win a championship soon, so that they can observe what the others already knew about your coaching and professionalism.

A few thoughts:

1). There is an interesting framing by mentioning all of the things that one could use as excuses, but by then saying one takes full ownership, I think it's an acknowledgment of what had been said rather than what he was thinking.

2). As apologies go, this one checked all of the boxes, ownership of the wrong, acknowledgment of who was hurt and acknowledgement of additional apology in person to others, steps taken to learn from this, and a plan going forward.  (My son thought that Juwan should have included the Wisconsin assistant's family in the list, your mileage may vary.)

3). This is a good first step, and Juwan acknowledging that he will be under scrutiny from here on out and it is how he acts going forward that will matter is the correct framework.  Because it is the reality he faces.

In the end, it was bad, it sucked that it happened, and I hope this is the last we have to worry about it because the right lessons were taken from it.
