Coach B's ring

Submitted by cp4three2 on

I noticed yesterday during the game and in a couple videos prior that Beilein is rocking a huge ring on his hand.  What is that from?  His NIT championship?

Could it be from a final four or something? I didnt think they gave out rings for that. I thought I saw an M on it but then again I probably saw what I wanted to see.

it is the most tasteful and enormous ring ever to exist in the history of the universe.  If that ring were to run a race against Wheatley, Hart, Biakabutuka, and Thomas and there were nasty linebackers all over the track (gauntlet style), I'm pretty sure we all know who would win.

for being the worst coach in the nation.  His nonsensical offenses and equally stupid player rotations sealed the deal for that joke.

This guy gets all the leeway in the world and for no reason.  As long as he is the head coach at Michigan, the chances of winning anything are zero and ZERO.

Thus, the ring.

If this team makes it into the NCAA tournament, JB should be a lock for Big Ten Coach of the Year.  I think they will end up in the NIT, and I think he should still be a very strong candidate.  Who else in the conference has done so much with what was projected to be so little?  His young players are improving, and he has turned his juniors into "coaches on the floor."

I think the recruiting pendulum is about to start swinging toward Michigan, too.  The program is headed in the right direction.  The only thing still needed now is for the improvements on the facilities to be completed.  That should help recruiting immensely.  It will only take one major recruit to open the floodgates and make Michigan the most popular instate choice for elite recruits.

The only other thing that really needs to be done to put Michigan back on top is to get the MHSAA finals and semis into the renovated Crisler Arena on a rotating basis.  When a HS player plays what is at that point the biggest game of his life on a college team's home floor, it is a huge recruiting advantage.  I know the Ed Martin fiasco did most of the damage, but EL has gotten most of the elite instate recruits since the tournament went to Breslin.

Anyway, Michigan could easily be the dominant program in the state in a couple of years.  Who would have believed at the beginning of the season that Michigan could end up playing MSU for the last Big Ten spot in the NCAA tournament?

The program once again has a huge upside.  It's been awhile.

One of the great things about basketball. It doesn't take long to turn the tide. Get yourself a couple really impactful players who are better then those on your competition and some general familiarity with the system among all the players.

This is a really interesting team to watch. Very excited for that Wisconsin game.

HAve you watched this team, at all, or do you just follow the boxscores?  This is the youngest team in the nation.  Basically, we are boys playng against men, and even still, Beilein has managed to put together a good record and almost knock off some great teams.  This is even more impressive, considering that our largest starting player (Morgan) is snorter than the 3 on many teams.

Even more, even when this team loses, they are a fundamentally sound team that doesn't often beat themselves, as most young teams are apt to do.

I haven't been in to Michigan basket ball really since I graduated in 1998.  I watched a few games from time to time, but never really followed.  This year, my 3 year old son (who is obsessed with all things Michigan, and loves football and basketball) wanted to watch the opening game, and I have been hooked since, DVRing every game to watch with him in the evenings or the next morning (for late games).  I can honestly say that even though they may not make the tourney, this is the most excited I have been for MBB in ages.  Beilein is building a great team with Morgen, Hardaway, Morris and the rest.  Sorry if you can't see it, because you are missing out.

From an old daily article:

When Beilein first met with his players in April 2007, he brought the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rings he earned at West Virginia to share. As each player slid the rings on and off, Beilein’s message was clear:

“We're going to put these on as soon as we can,” Beilein said through the Athletic Department in 2007. “NCAA rings, we're going to go after it as soon as we can. There's no timetable. Just do your best, and our coaching staff and everyone will do the best they can, as well.”
