Clay Helton dismissed from USC
December 1st, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
The only thing that can slow down OSU is to give them another competitor
I'm good with urban to usc
December 1st, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
If Urbz does go to USC I'd be astonished if he and Day did not have secret handshake agreements to not go after each other's recruits. Urban Meyer is the poster child of the good ole boy network.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
you’re not acknowledging the fact that he is untrustworthy and will win at all costs.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:15 PM ^
Urban Meyer is the most competitive coach in CFB. His goal is to win, period.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:24 PM ^
Nick Saban still exists. The only reason we don't hear as much about what a thoroughly insane person he is is because he isn't in our conference and the bama beat writers are super friendly.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
IDK. Meyer's loyalty to OSU runs pretty deep. You may take the guy out of Ohio but you can never take Ohio out of the guy.
December 1st, 2019 at 4:31 PM ^
This ! He's really tied into OSU and Columbus as he just opened up his 7-0 (yes, 7-0) restaurant in Dublin (in the Columbus area). Him and his wife Shelley are still huge parts of the community.
December 1st, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
Loyalty?
Did he let Tressel's Buckeyes win during that Florida-OSU NC game in the 2000s?
December 1st, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
Agree completely. He’s win at ALL costs... not judging. Just clarifying.
I’ve always been proud of the way we do business, but if no one cares, and all the creeps (OSU, Bama, UGA, LSU, Clemson, etc.) benefit, then what the hell are we doing? Either relish the ass beatings, or join the fray.
Not trying to be funny, but seriously, this is the only thing left to decide.
December 1st, 2019 at 3:21 PM ^
Why are they "creeps" ?
December 1st, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
They're creeps because they win more than Michigan.
December 1st, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
I was talking to a buckeye at the gym in CA. He said no way Urban would go to USC, USC has too little integrity. Then he said same thing goes for Tressel. I'm not making that up. Delusional.
December 1st, 2019 at 4:10 PM ^
Typical Buckeye fans believe Urban didn’t know his coach is an abuser. They also forget how much they called Urban a cheater at Florida.
December 1st, 2019 at 5:10 PM ^
This is totally common. CF fandom is a tribal endeavor. Our guys are virtuous student athletes the other guys are thugs who don’t go to class. Our coach is a noble molder of men. Your coach is a cheater. Venture over to 11W to see what they think about us....spoiler: it’s not what we think about us. Lol
December 1st, 2019 at 2:04 PM ^
Hope so. His recruiting pipeline is what Ryan Day took over.
It would be just like at OSU....he'd walk into a situation with a team with elite talent already, already has a good QB, and the conference is meh. He'll go to the playoff in year 1.
December 1st, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
good he can parlay it into the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys
December 1st, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
Willie Taggart and Bo Pelini are not being mentioned as candidates.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
Charlie Weiss?
December 1st, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
USC finished 8-4 and placed second in the south division. Helton isn't a bad coach. USC is tempting fate on this one. Campbell, Urbz or Rhule?
December 1st, 2019 at 2:19 PM ^
Helton is OK, but that team is LOADED with talent.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:27 PM ^
Actually they're not. Though they were 4th in recruiting for 2018, they were 20th last year and are currently 76th for 2020. And the only talent they've not been losing to Oregon, Oklahoma, and Alabama has been at WR. They have nothing elite on either line on the current roster or in their pipeline.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:40 PM ^
Putingrad, are you talking about USC or Michigan?
December 1st, 2019 at 4:29 PM ^
Last year doesn’t really matter - those guys are sitting. And unless you come fro m 2022, I’m not sure wrf next year has to do with the teams current composition.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
What is so great about Campbell or Rhule?
Campbell has been good at Iowa State. He may end up elite if he gets to a top program. But like most with his profile (merely good results at a below mediocre program)he will likely end up being ...merely good.
Rhule? Turned around Temple and Baylor. Not bad. But is he the next Saban or Meyer? Those turn arounds are something. But are they better than turning around previously terrible Stanford and previously terrible SF 49ers?
I get that USC should be winning Pac 12 championships. But unless they have Meyer lined up...probably ends up as a sideways move.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
Let’s see: Stanford had the best college QB to play college football in the last 20 years and Harbaugh didn’t have to recruit in the NFL.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
I don't know who you go for in USC's spot but the California image rights law is about to hand them the recruiting advantage of a life time in two years. So right now you can take a shot with an up and comer, hope it works out and if it doesnt in two year you roll out the Brinks truck
December 1st, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
If Meyer is to make a return, that is the job. Fertile recruiting grounds, blueblood program, he will be in national championship game within 4 years. And yes, it pains me to say it, but USC is one of those programs just waiting for a coach like Meyer.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:10 PM ^
Surely you jest...within 4 years? He'd be in the playoff next year. Look at their roster and recruiting. He also already has a legit QB, and the Pac 12 sucks.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:22 PM ^
He meant months
December 1st, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
And we all know Urban can't resist fertile grounds.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
Sigh jealous. They’re about to romp the PAC12 if they get Urban...Already loaded with talent as is.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:11 PM ^
Think James Franklin May be their top choice.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
He'd be a great choice. He's not tactically good, but he's smooth, pretty cool, and a great recruiter. He'd land top 5 classes there all the time, schmooze the right people, and win a lot of games in a shit Pac 12.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
Very good news. This could leave Graham Harrell available to replace Josh Gattis here.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
Why the hell would Gattis leave? He was the least of the teams problems on Saturday.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
This is Graham Harrell's first year at USC. Last year USC had the #49 passing offense. This year it's #5, in his first year. LSU is not the only team that made a dramatic turn around in passing in one year.
Before USC Harrell made a big turn around in the passing game at North Texas.
YES, I want him here instead of Gattis.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
The offense was the only thing that looked remotely decent.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:36 PM ^
I think to some people "remotely decent" isn't good enough. USC has 3 WRs ranked in the top 100. Michigan has none.
December 1st, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
Southern Ca isn’t cold ass Michigan.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:52 PM ^
I for one, looking forward to the offense next year. I think the team will start rolling a lot sooner. The only thing I didn't like was the wildcat yesterday. So much to be positive about offense. Lots of talent in skill positions, good oline, 4 star QB's waiting in wings, deep RB room with Evans coming back. No, the offense will be very good next year.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
Don’t think Meyer will go there, I think the NFL is a real option for him. He has nothing else to prove in college. If Kliff Kingsbury can win games in the NFL I’m sure Meyer would work. I think they should go strongly after James Franklin.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
Shits getting real now.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:35 PM ^
By my recollection, USC has like the 4th most talents roster (using 247 recruiting rankings). Helton did a good job collecting talent, someone else is probably about to benefit from it
December 1st, 2019 at 4:44 PM ^
Correct.
1) Alabama
2) OSU
3) Georgia
4) USC
That roster was loaded
December 1st, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
Shocking.
Urbz has been kicking it with Reggie Bush and Matty Sunshine all season. This seems like the worst kept secret in college football. He would be an absolute juggernaut at USC.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
I'd love to see Urban go to Florida State.
December 1st, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
There goes our shot at urban haha
December 1st, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
So if they hire Urban tomorrow, does that mean he’ll coach against us in the Holiday Bowl?
December 1st, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Oh he’s cocky enough to try
December 1st, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
Report is now being called false. Looks like a power struggle between the university president and the boosters who want Urban Liar.
