Class Ranks on Rivals
I was just playing around with the class ranks on rivals, trying to see what Michigan could potentially finish at. However, I couldn't figure out how Rivals calculated the points in the far column that they use. Does anyone have insight.
Edit: I'm not so much asking how they come up with the star rankings etc. but where are these "points" on individuals prospects pages?

evaluate him, give him a grade, see him commit to ND, raise his rank by a star, see him decommit, lower his rank a star, see him commit to Michigan, lower his rank another star.

Or see them decommit from Michigan, and commit to an SEC school, and give them a 5th star ...

I see what you did there and like it!

star envy is pretty common this time of year, should see your doctor about it

oh, salt on the wound, oh it burns worst loss of the year, oh it burns

yep UM is the lowest rated team ND lost to
January 21st, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
face reality. ND is loosing its star power. UM is gaining. We made some significant coaching hires this week. Now I am the biggest Brian Kelly fan on the planet during his time in the state of michigan. Opps. Did I say Michigan? My bad.

Coaching hires have definitely moved UM in a positive direction but the past few months wont be overcome 5 days after the coaching hires became official
ND will be ranked in preseason, and is set to sign its best defensive class in a decade. Get ready for the off season because its about to become unbearable ND's rival fans

why do you think he was only a 4.9 star, sheesh
January 21st, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
where Joe Montana was cutting Rudy down? He dogged him out. Too bad the truth is not flattering for ND. ND can pray to TD Jesus all they want, they will never be Michigan...NEVER.

All that star envy and ND cant do anything good with it.
January 21st, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
Despite losing to you guys, we finished with a better record. With our starting QB, RB, TE etc etc all hurt.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
Who cares, we still beat you despite what was quite possibly the worse defense we've ever had.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
Not to mention that ND is an independent and plays a weak schedule. If they played in the big ten they'd be lucky to win a game.
January 22nd, 2011 at 7:05 AM ^
haha your ignorance is showing, ND had the 4th strongest schedule in the country (higher than any school in the big ten) per the ncaa. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2010/Internet/toughest%20schedule/fbs_9games_p…
want to try again?

Don't get so mad, ND has been UM's biggest win for the past 2 years. One the few bright spots
January 22nd, 2011 at 1:14 PM ^
Uh, I don't see anything that would hint I was mad. Btw, how many bright spots has ND had in the last 3 years? Last 10 years?
January 22nd, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
is IRISH. its good to see when other teams post and arent ignorant dicks.. with that being said i still hate ND more than MSU and based on day OSU, but they will be ranked and should start to get legitimate with Christ.. thatll be a big game..again
January 21st, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
Not sure either. How far do they rank? Do they go past 25
January 21st, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
no one understands it, but the major flaw in the system is that "number of commits" is really important to final ranking. That makes some sense (a class with 23 good players is probably a better class than 4 5 stars and no one else), but the way the SEC signs players throws all the numbers off. For the last decade, Michigan has pretty routinely signed 18-22 person classes that have ranked below SEC classes of like 33 kids, even though the Michigan average star ranking is higher.

there is supposed to be some kind of modifier in there for team needs as well, which would be extremely subjective not that stars arent already but just saying

see above

I wouldn't pay much attention to the rankings this year. It's like when you're trying to lose a few pounds so you weigh yourself like 8 times a day to see how you're doing. It doesnt help.
January 21st, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
Ill take 22 Mike Hart 3 stars and be perfectly happy.
January 21st, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
a lot of gaping holes on the lines with that many skill position players in one class.
January 21st, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
then no star envy, and no production of talent to go along with it.

This is my first post on this site. So hello to everyone.Off subject a little but some threads start with OT....what does this mean?
My thinking on class rankings is that scouts at this level are average. A lot of these so-called scouts dont even watch all the kids play and only watch during one game. Some kids simply dont mature until they are 20-21 or just didnt impress the scout. Top classes are like a tits, nice to look at, but the bra (Good Coaching/Hard Work) is the real support.

very well said. BTW: OT=Open Thread. Kinda like Rush's "Open Line Friday"

I appreciate you answering my ?.

That Star Rankings determine CHAMPIONSHIPS! OH YEAH! If you aren't full of 5-star High School players, you suck!
January 21st, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
is several 3 and 4* kids that are "all in". We now have the correct people to coach them up. Tom Brady was only a 3* recruit if I remember. (no negs if my memory is bad please)
January 22nd, 2011 at 8:32 AM ^
people come from every direction "oh well recruiting rankings don't mean anything because of Mike Hart!"
that's just silly
January 22nd, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
Thanks for that epic picture of Denard doing the Heisman pose while stiff-arming a would-be ND tackler.
January 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
That's one spot above State who's at 35th with 19 recruits to our 13. Our average star rating is 3.31 and that slots us around 18th. Not bad at all.
