Are you sure you don't have that backwards? Civ III was terrible. By far the worst game that Sid Meier has ever made. IV improved on it in every way possible. Resources are way better. Combat is way better. Diplomacy is way better. AI doesn't settler spam. Strategy all around is just way better.

I'll agree with CivIII being the best Civ by far. I have CivIII complete and still play it. I have Civ IV with Warlords and Beyond the Sword on my Steam account, but they're currently uninstalled. CivIV just felt too "cartoony" for me. It had some cool features and changes to the game, but the units and diplomacy screens just annoyed me in IV. CivII deserves honorable mention for actually having slavery implemented in a historically accurate sense, when you could send out units to take slaves, but had the risk of slave revolts. They backed off slavery in future Civ games, which is shame IMHO. Slavery was horrible, but it is part of human history. Of course Alpha Centauri is still my favorite turn based game by far. Oh the days I wasted crushing Chairman Yang and Sister Miriam. Ah memories.

I saw an article about a month ago that said they are working on Civilization for Facebook that is due out in June. I feel my productivity slipping already.

I love Civ IV but I won't get excited about Civ V until I see some details for it. I want to see that they are actually targeting this game for Civ fans and not dumbing down the hell out of it. It will be really hard for them to improve on Civ IV. That game was so incredibly well balanced and it was almost flawless. The last half of the game isn't always fun but unfortunately that's how 4X games work. I don't see much of a way around that.

Looks amazing, but I'll probably have to spring for a new laptop to play it. I have Civ IV and it's really choppy on my machine. I play Civilization: Revolution on PS3 to get my fix, but it's just not as satisfying (perhaps just as addicting though).

I don't have a PC that can handle today's games, so Civ: Revolution for PS3 is my first Sid Meier game (besides SimGolf), and I really like it. I don't know what sort of rep it has amongst hardcore Civ fans but I think it is a great game.

The Beyond the Sword expansion is very good. Was just playing coop with a couple of friends last night. It's a nice change of pace from fps and flight sims... at least until waves of raging barbarians, come rolling down from the darkness...
