I have loved the series. I can't wait for this one to come out either.
Civ V announced
Huh. I like Civ IV fine but honestly I can't let go of Civ III yet. Still my favorite. I guess it's genetics - my dad is still going strong as a Civ II fanatic.
I agree. Hopefully the new Civilization will be more like III and less like the stripped down IV.
Are you sure you don't have that backwards? Civ III was terrible. By far the worst game that Sid Meier has ever made. IV improved on it in every way possible. Resources are way better. Combat is way better. Diplomacy is way better. AI doesn't settler spam. Strategy all around is just way better.
Are you thinking of Civilization Revolution?
I sure was. My bad. I turn in my nerd badge.
I have enjoyed all of them, from I to IV. Each had some good points and some bad. I was just playing Civ IV last night. I am glad to see that they are going to a hex-grid, it have wanted that to happen for a long time.
Civ II was my favorite as well. I know a lot more people who like Civ III the most though.
I'll agree with CivIII being the best Civ by far. I have CivIII complete and still play it. I have Civ IV with Warlords and Beyond the Sword on my Steam account, but they're currently uninstalled. CivIV just felt too "cartoony" for me. It had some cool features and changes to the game, but the units and diplomacy screens just annoyed me in IV.
CivII deserves honorable mention for actually having slavery implemented in a historically accurate sense, when you could send out units to take slaves, but had the risk of slave revolts. They backed off slavery in future Civ games, which is shame IMHO. Slavery was horrible, but it is part of human history.
Of course Alpha Centauri is still my favorite turn based game by far. Oh the days I wasted crushing Chairman Yang and Sister Miriam. Ah memories.
This is a cultural victory.
+1 one to you
I saw an article about a month ago that said they are working on Civilization for Facebook that is due out in June. I feel my productivity slipping already.
I had some reservations when FB Civ was announced but Sid Meier is personally working on it so I mean it's got to be good.
I love Civ IV but I won't get excited about Civ V until I see some details for it. I want to see that they are actually targeting this game for Civ fans and not dumbing down the hell out of it. It will be really hard for them to improve on Civ IV. That game was so incredibly well balanced and it was almost flawless. The last half of the game isn't always fun but unfortunately that's how 4X games work. I don't see much of a way around that.
I hope Spock is the voice for this one too. If not, since Nimoy is getting old, who do you guys want to see (hear)?
If you heard Sid's voice in BtS, you probably wont want that. No offense to the man, I respect all that he does, but it doesn't have the grandeur of Nimoy. I'm fine with him doing it again if they get new quotes.
James Earl Jones, he has a great speaking voice.
YOU'VE ACHIEVED IRON WORK?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I HAD IRON WORK COMING OUT OF MY ASS BEFORE BREAKFAST
Is this OT?
I was about to post the same thing. This is a prime candidate for an OT in the title. I am a fan of the series, though, so I don't even care. Exciting stuff.
No because everyone who plays the game will be creating the nation of Michigan Wolverines to play as. Totally on topic...
Sid Meier is an alumnus, which has to count for something
Sorry, I got so excited when I saw the news release I forgot to put OT in the title.
The ability to build onto your palace from Civ I. I wish you could still do that.
Looks amazing, but I'll probably have to spring for a new laptop to play it. I have Civ IV and it's really choppy on my machine. I play Civilization: Revolution on PS3 to get my fix, but it's just not as satisfying (perhaps just as addicting though).
I don't have a PC that can handle today's games, so Civ: Revolution for PS3 is my first Sid Meier game (besides SimGolf), and I really like it. I don't know what sort of rep it has amongst hardcore Civ fans but I think it is a great game.
Methinks I will finally have to get around to assembling a new computer this year.
Another thing to detract my attention away from actual responsibilitites!
And now I will retire to the nerdery and play with my calculator until this actually is released.
The Beyond the Sword expansion is very good. Was just playing coop with a couple of friends last night. It's a nice change of pace from fps and flight sims... at least until waves of raging barbarians, come rolling down from the darkness...
