CFP Rankings: Top 4 Remain Unchanged
I know the rankings don’t really matter until the last week, but it’s nice to see the medi clown show still not deterring the CFP Committee from keeping the good guys out.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
They must not watch the actual team/ games.
November 7th, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
Will be amazing when we nuke OSU 31-3
November 7th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
I mean who didn’t watch OSU this weekend and think…now THAT is what #1 looks like
November 7th, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
considered making a “number one played like number two!” joke
but we are cooler than that
November 7th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Cooler heads prevailed.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
My cooler is cooler than your cooler.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^
Is the CFP committee watching the same games as everyone else? Watching OSU struggle with Rutger isn’t worthy of being ahead of Georgia.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
By keeping them #1, they only have to drop them to #4 when Michigan beats them.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
Then what happens if Bama beats Georgia in the SEC title game? Say UM Washington and FSU go undefeated. That leaves 11-1 OSU 12-1 Georgia and 12-1 SEC champ Bama (and maybe 12-1 Big12 champ Texas).
November 7th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
In that situation, they will look at whichever matchup gives the best ratings for ESPN and adjust accordingly.
Just kidding... but not really.
November 7th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
Prolly:
1) Bama
2) Georgia
3) Ole Miss
4) Tennessee
November 7th, 2023 at 9:38 PM ^
If bama beats uga and is a 12-1 conference champ, they are they clear choice over non-champion OSU and UGA, and even 12-1 conference champ Texas.
November 7th, 2023 at 10:50 PM ^
Probably won't happen. As the pressure increases teams lose.
It happens every year to teams you least expect.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:49 PM ^
Michigan beats Rutgers, we haven’t beaten anyone! Osu beats Rutgers and just look at that schedule, it screams #1
November 7th, 2023 at 8:04 PM ^
ESPN is doing a lot of backpedaling. Rece Davis no longer wants Harbaugh suspended. Joey Galloway says there should be due process. I'm guessing this may be coming from the higher ups that want those 50 tickets to The Game
November 7th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
I was going to say the same thing. There was still a bit of yesterday’s Rece in there, but largely a different tone. I thought it was interesting to see, but I still say fuck their 50 tickets until Thamel issues a public apology… so in other words, that means fuck them!
November 7th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
Or wind of a major boycott of everything ESPN by a huge fanbase.
I unplugged everything ESPN today. Including any type of feed from YouTube; even if it plays in the background without clicking on it the tally of clicks is still there. Expunge!
November 7th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
I guarantee ESPN doesn't even know a few hundred Michigan fans are boycotting them. Much more likely they realize the story's going in a different direction suddenly and they'd like some tickets to The Game please
November 7th, 2023 at 9:18 PM ^
I did cancel my Disney/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle, specifically citing the sensationalized reporting around this. You’re all welcome.
On a serious note, Disney has been hemorrhaging viewership on ESPN recently. Whether that’s Fox actively being more competitive, or people being tired of ESPNs coverage of things is debatable. Hopefully the latter and they will eventually get the hint.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Fuck them. Too little too late.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
Reece can eat his own words. "He made his bed and now he can lie in it".
November 7th, 2023 at 8:33 PM ^
Too late for Entertainment Sports Network. I will never go back, and they should never be allowed on campus unless they buy a ticket.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
p.s. thanks for the CBS link. Avoiding ESPN like the plague.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:35 PM ^
Been doing that for years.. just the games they broadcast. Nothing else. It's all just noise, and I hate it.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
OSU #1 is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. They are a top ten-ish team, clearly much worse than they've been in a while. Their offense with Stroud or Fields (and a lot of RB + WR talent) was pretty scary; this is not that. And their defense is an unknown; some good players along the line, but a line does not a defense make.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:26 PM ^
But.but..Maserati Marv! Lol
November 7th, 2023 at 8:31 PM ^
But.but..teamed with Honda MCCord! Lol
November 7th, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
That's an insult to Hondas, which are wonderfully reliable, and alliteration. I propose The K-Car Kid.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
I would also accept Kia McCord. And Daewoo Allar.
Both are way worse than JJ McCorvette.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
Meanwhile, Kansas Bill Self signs extension (5yr/53M) to become the highest paid coach after...
the 6yr NCAA investigation that resulted in a "slap on the wrist" penalty for 5 Level1 violations while...
Michigan awaits an immediate, potential death penalty for sign stealing that delays Harbaugh's contract extension.
LOL
November 7th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
I mean last week the head honcho CFP dude was being interviewed by ESPN and even he said something in the lines of "The CFP is completely separate from the NCAA and we only focus on the games being played on the field. Not the chatter off the field" (paraphrasing)
In other words, its all about the money for the CFP committee. There is zero chance an undefeated Michigan team gets leaped by someone like Washington, Oregon, etc. because Pat fucking Mcafee thinks they shouldn't get a spot.
So all of these media clowns working for ESPN can suck a fat one.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:26 PM ^
I know folks probably aren't giving ESPN any views, but Joey Galloway repeated the "Due Process" line. Then Greg McElroy and Rece Davis both spoke up against banning the team from the CFP or suspending Harbaugh because that would punish the kids. They were all for giving Harbaugh and the school a hefty fine.
I doubt Pettiti goes for anything short of a suspension and big court fight, but it's interesting to hear this somewhat softer tone from the ESPN team, especially Rece Davis. I wonder why???
November 7th, 2023 at 8:33 PM ^
Because they were dead wrong the first time and even they are figuring that out.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:35 PM ^
Because it is now starting to splatter on OSU and, for whatever reason, ESPN loves OSU.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
For whatever reason = Herbstreet
November 7th, 2023 at 8:37 PM ^
They fear a lawsuit, well their bosses do anyway.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:23 PM ^
I think this alludes more to real reason people are making a big deal out of this. They personally hate Harbaugh. He had no knowledge of this, and it’s a small violation, but they want his job and nothing else. Strange.
November 8th, 2023 at 6:29 AM ^
Thank you. I haven't seen or heard "it's a small violation" enough. Good grief. It is a cost saving rule with no assigned penalty. It is like everyone has the other team's signs in advance but somehow it matters how you got the signs. (I suppose the rules say it does matter but in what environment would that be a good rule?)
November 7th, 2023 at 8:29 PM ^
Rank UNLV you cowards
November 7th, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
UNLV is having a nice season by their standards, but they wouldn't be (and shouldn't be) ranked in a Top 50.
None of their opponents have a winning record. If they beat Wyoming and AFA the next 2 weeks, then they'll have a couple decent wins. Now, they have none.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
None of their opponents have a winning record.
Uh, Michigan is 9-0.
November 7th, 2023 at 10:48 PM ^
None of their opponents that they beat has a winning record.
I won't go back and edit it, I'll own that mistake.
To my larger point --- anyone arguing UNLV should be a Top 25 team, I disagree, their resume to date doesn't support that.
November 8th, 2023 at 11:49 AM ^
They've lost two games and nobody can tell you who they've beaten. Not even close to being ranked.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:05 PM ^
Espn sucks Richard Johnson
November 7th, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
The committee has OSU at #1, but they have by far the longest betting odds to win it all.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:59 PM ^
Keep OSU # 1 until Thanksgiving.... please!
November 7th, 2023 at 10:29 PM ^
This is idiotic! They rank Iowa saying they find a way to win while completely discounting Michigan's dominance. Michigan is doing to their opponents what their SoS tells them they should do. And somehow that's a bad thing.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:35 AM ^
If ESPN wants tickets for The Game then they can log in to Conner Stalion's Stub Hub account and get them that way. Pretty sure he has some heavy discounts built up by now.
