CFB Simulator - a little fun before the big game
Over the last few seasons I have found myself on this website quite a bit, just seeing how the numbers match up. I found it interesting what happens when you put Michigan & TCU in, no matter who the home team is, or whether the home field advantage box is checked or not. It shows TCU as the favorite in most cases, but out of 10 simulations, I came out with Michigan winning 7 of them.
Anyway, thought it would be fun to see what results everybody gets. It will help pass time for this very long day. Go Blue Always

too bad it's locked.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:15 AM ^
It's not locked, some features are though like running multiple games at the same time as well as editing rosters but you can continue to press "Submit" as many times as you'd like.

This simulation favors TCU to win over %60 of the time. Therefore it is not a simulation, it is more like an alternative history storybook.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:23 AM ^
100% agree.......and you can imagine the results that I received on the 1000's of times I ran it for UM vs OSU......especially at OSU, I think they were favored 71% of the time. We al know how that turned out.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:42 AM ^
LOL, I just simulated UM/OSU and we lost 31-3.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
TCU fans are really enjoying it....
sadly for them, if you tell yourself a lie enough times, it is still a lie.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:32 AM ^
Yeah, if I could make one change on this, it would be in honor of those delusional fans in Ohio.
I would make an option to "remove the top 5 big plays" so OSU can continue their support of Jim Knowles & Ryan Day
December 30th, 2022 at 9:32 AM ^
it had TCU winning both and crushing us @Michigan. you made me sadder. boo this man.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
Spoiler alert - This website was created by MSU fan who has had a lot of extra time on his hands with no bowl game to watch
December 30th, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
How could an MSU fan create anything, but fire?
December 30th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
well, it doesnt work. Thats the 1st sure sign
December 30th, 2022 at 5:03 PM ^
And they need a lot of help…with fire. The MSU slappies I know often look at me like I’ve just invented fire, no matter how basic the concept.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
For the sim I ran, the final score was 54-21, Michigan - so that sounds about right. The rest of the stats, though, were bullshit.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:41 AM ^
I just ran the simulator and it had Michigan winning 38-34. Then I ran it with OSU and Georgia. It said Ohio wins 63-13. Obviously this is very accurate. /s

It's a cool site but they need to find a way to take out garbage time. Try running any Michigan sim and you'll see a ton of Isaiah Gash, passes to Leon Franklin, etc.
What they do is randomize events from this year's play-by-play by situation, removing events with injured players and then raising the instances of his backups. If you remove all of Michigan's Blake Corum events however, you end up with a smattering of Donovan Edwards runs and then things like "TEAM run for loss of 2" representing a significant percentage of plays.

Seth digging deep with his breakfast burrito in hand. Well-done, as always.
December 30th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
So Seth, it’s not a simulator at all. It is a mash-up or a re-creator. In other words, it generates nonsense that doesn’t emulate anything that would happen on the field.
hmm. What does this remind me of???
December 30th, 2022 at 3:27 PM ^
what does "nonsense that doesn't emulate anything that would happen on the field" remind you of? I'm gonna guess it reminds you of the video of the TCU bloggers that Brian posted, where they say Michigan's offense isn't likely to mess with linebackers.
December 30th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Yeah, I looked at the play-by-play and they had a lot of random guys getting a bunch of plays in this game for Michigan. Like, Darrius Clemons has the longest completion of the day and both Cade McNamara and Erick All showed up multiple times. And despite being down 20 entering the 4th quarter Michigan ran the ball with Leon Franklin 2 straight times before giving it to CJ Stokes.
So yeah, it's a bit of a mixed bag. I wrote something similar while in grad school and they're really tough to get right; I won't rag on them. But like a lot of things the algorithm is only as good as the data you feed it and this one has some kinks to work out.

My simulator showed the Wolverines eating a frog for an hors d’oeuvre, and then feasting on a rabid dog. I think I could go with that one.
December 30th, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
How many poisonous nuts was this dog able to eat before puking?
December 30th, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
well, if you take away the 5 largest bites, not much at all
December 30th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
Apparently the dog was unaffected. It went through him like poop through a goose.
December 30th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
Extremely inaccurate simulator.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
Took me 7 tries to get a Michigan win
December 30th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
11 wins Michigan, 9 wins TCU
December 30th, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
simulator seems...flawed.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
I tried one where Michigan lost 38-31 and we had runs from JJ, Davis Warren, Orji, and somehow Cade. Apparently Harbaugh pulled out the Wishbone offense with all QBs at once
December 30th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
That would be pretty cool to see Cade run onto the field from the stands and then take a handoff.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
Turns out the whole injury and transfer to Iowa thing was an elaborate ruse so we could sneak him out there for a trick QB run play.
I guarantee TCU will never see it coming.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
I had a drive where Alex Orji, Henry Donahue (I had to look up who that was), Sam Gash and Stokes carried the ball once each. It was the third drive of the game.
juat like I am sure that the coaches drew up their game plan.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
Wow. Even parents of the players and retired 49ers WRs are getting carries now?
December 30th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
Does the website you listed also simulate how poorly mgobloggers know how to post links?
December 30th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
LOL!!! As smart and arrogant and UM alum purport to be, they sure as hell can't figure out a friggen link! I mean, highlight some text, click the chain icon, and paste the link. How hard is that?
December 30th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
I think everybody for the most part figured out how to get it? Sorry you couldn't figure it out.
And for the record, I am not a UofM grad. Just a die hard fan that doesn't know how to post a link.

So, this simulator picked the Buckeyes to destroy Michigan. And, this same simulator picks TCU to defeat Michigan.
I like this simulator…
Go Blue!
December 30th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
It’s 0% right, 100% of the time?
December 30th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
What I saw wrong on my sim:
-CJ Stokes started the game over Donovan Edwards
-Michigan scored their first TD on an 8 yard run by Alex Orji
-Michigan punted on 4th and 2 from the TCU 39
-Jake Moody missed a 29 yard FGA
-Michigan punted from 4th and 1 from the TCU 43 in a tie game in the 3rd quarter.
-Max Bredeson had more catches and TDs in the game than he had the rest of the year combined
-Stokes had 10 carries vs Edwards 11 in the game, Gash had 4, JJ had 8
But Michigan won 31-27 so all good!
December 30th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
good thing simulator results aren't real
December 30th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Look who portaled back in before the game!
Cade -4 rushing on 2 attempts and All caught a 27yd pass in a winning performance
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
December 30th, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
I'm just going to appreciate that this was written in classic ASP.
