Recruiting is the one thing that might prevent Harbaugh from coming back to college, but he has never told Mora that. Mora says he actually enjoys recruiting(In the last 11 days he's been in 14 homes in 7 different states) and mentions the chance for Harbaugh to go to a prestigious school like Michigan to build them back up. He also said that he would rather deal with moms and dads than wifes and agents.

"Recruiting is the one thing that might prevent Harbaugh from coming back to college"

For a guy who supposedly wants full control over all football operations, I just don't understand this line of thinking.

You can want control over football operations and still hate recruiting at the college level, where you have to fly around the country and begin picking out next year's guys as soon as the season ends. Chip Kelly said something to this effect by mentioning that he actually has more free time in the NFL since he isn''t primarily responsible for bringing guys in.

the whims of 17-year olds.

The whims of which will be covered obsessively by bloggers whose profession is trolling all those 17-year olds, their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, cousins, coaches and assorted hangers on to find out what their out-of-control hormones and adolescent ids are telling what to do this minute , and whose observations will actually be commented critically upon by thousands,  well hundreds...well, actually, maybe dozens, of idiots who will dote upon, and occasionally pay for, those priceless insignts. And then, a few certifiable morons who pretend to be journalists will post "stories"  which "report" on all that erudition.

What's not to understand?

If your professional success or failure was overwhelmingly dependent on the whims of a score of teenagers every single year, year after year, would you want to deal with that?

Not that being a NFL coach lacks its own challenges, but do they really compare with having to debase yourself quite like that?

Just sayin.

Tim Staudt in the lansing state journal made the case that coaching in college is better than the nfl. Saban is more well known than basically every NFL coach than Belichick, he has better job stability than most NFL coaches, the players are the rockstars in the NFL while the coaches are the rockstars in college.

I just heard John Clayton discussing Harbaugh's options on the Mark Schlereth Show. He didn't even acknowledge that Michigan is a possibility. This drives me crazy-Harbaugh may or may not choose to come here, but I am convinced that U of M is a serious consideration, and those freakin' NFL guys can't get it through their heads that they're not the best show in town. (Ya ever been in a foreign country the day of Super Bowl. I have several times, trust me, the rest of the world doesn't give a shit...) College coaches are molders of men, they touch the future-we forget that most of those guys touching the banner are NOT going to be pro athletes. Most of them are gonna be CEOs, physicians, attorneys, etc. Guys that played for Bo, the Bear, etc get almost teary eyed discussing their time with those coaches. Bill Walton constantly talks about John Wooden-does he ever even mention his pro coaches? Coaching pro athletes is liking screwing a porn star- they may be more proficient at it, but their heart isn't really in it and they are doing it for the money. I realize this is just my opinion, but coaching a college team has got to be more rewarding than anything in the Not For Long league.... (Just placed this on a different thread- that just got deleted?)

I totally agree and that's well put. Along with all the obvious benefits if he comes, I'd very much enjoy seeing all the hack NFL "pundits" that have felt the overwhelming desire to chime in on something they know nothing about for the past couple weeks eat huge amounts of crow. Michigan fans would just smother them in I told you so's.

Apparently Miles has zero interest in the Michigan job. He just had a press conference vehemently denying any interest. Saw it on Twitter. Smokescreen? Im not sure what to think anymore...

This is why I think that the rival fans who are quick to point out Harbaugh's comments about recruiting are fooling themselves.  I'm sure there are many coaches who feel the same way about recruiting.  Very few people love every last aspect of their job/career.  Harbaugh may not like recruiting but does he like dealing with NFL players who make millions of dollars and don't like to be told what to do every day?  I highly doubt THAT will prevent Harbaugh from taking the job.

During the latter half of his career, Harbaugh served as an unpaid assistant on his dad's WKU staff. In that role, his duties primarily involved scouting and recruiting. Also, keep in mind that Harbaaugh left his position as QB coach for the Raiders to become head coach at USD. He wouldn't have done that if he hated recruiting, and it's not as if he had to do his time in the college ranks in order to land a head coaching gig in the NFL. There are plenty of NFL coaches who never worked on a college staff.

I think the allure of the NFL for Harbaugh has more to do with coaching at the highest level of competition. I honestly doubt recruiting is much of a factor for him.

How come when Harbaugh and Miles say the same thing, Harbaugh is "really" saying I'm coming, but Miles is "really" saying I'm not coming?
