CC: Greg Schiano

NJ papers are floating the topic of where Schiano will land and indicates that he may take the Michigan job (which he purportedly turned down during the last coaching search).

Pros: Hard-nosed disciplinarian; will push recruitment and development; NFL HC experience and Big East HC experience.

Cons: Rough around the edges; failed at his last spot with Tampa Bay; no midwest recruiting knowledge (primarily recruited NJ/PA and FL while he was at Rutgers).

If not the NFL, a college program – and a good one – will come calling. I've always thought his skill set, his ability to recruit and motivate young players, always fit better on the college level. Imagine him taking over a program where he didn't have to worry about all of the institutional problems he had to overcome at Rutgers, where the high school stars always listened and the stadium was a finished product.

A place like Michigan comes to mind, of course, and the job he once turned down likely will be open. People close to Schiano agree that he'll be choosy with his next job, and would rather sit out a year than jump into a difficult situation.

He is a perfect candidate for Kansas. Quality person that can at least make them more competitive. Pull the trigger and leave Michigan and Florida as the only soon to be open slots in the 5 main conferences.

again, I'd be concerned Schiano is more in the Bill O'Brien mold of coaching candidates (I have nothing to back that up other than the MMQB feature story from yesterday that suggested he's keeping his options between NFL and college coaching open. He also identifies strongly with Pete Carrol who returned to the league after USC). Not that that's absolutely terrible considering there are so few established candidates this year but going through the coaching search process all over again is not ideal IMO.

No. No. Hell no. I'm a Bucs fan and he was absolutely terrible as a coach down there. I really don't need him to destroy both of my teams.

Disregarding his NFL experience, yeah he won some bowl games and got quite a few of his players to the NFL, but he never won anything of note. His teams always seemed to flop when a conference title was on the line. If you can't win the Big East, how can you win the Big Ten?

There's nothing about him that's really all that exciting.

his 6th. Never came close to matching it, let alone building upon it. I'll give him credit for bringing that program up, but his overall record is not that impressive. After going 11-2 he had 3 losing conference records out of the next 5. Rutgers caveats and all, they're in a good location for talent and the Big East wasn't that tough. This is a guy who did a good job at a mediocre program, but was far from an elite coach.

As a lifelong Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, FUCK THAT GUY.  I do NOT want to see him coaching at Michigan in any capacity.  His players at Rutgers and Tampa, hated his guts.
