What's so funny? It's just three guys standing around holding their balls??
Ohhhhhhhh, OK...

That's called "cryptochidism," and it's no laughing matter...
Pretty sure that's just "W" for Walton.

Sure he is a wonderful human and I thank him for giving his service to the school.
But I'm not going to miss watching Donnal play. Sorry if that's harsh, but other than a few momentary outbursts in his career, he's been a rough watch.

mark is so little!

LOL! Looks like a MBB version of "Dick in a Box"!

Yeah, but where are the Donnal records?
Epic picture
What are the chances that Donnal is given a 5th year at Michigan? Wagner could come back to gain some strength. Or he could go to the European League and play year round. And with Teske and Davis on the bench, it seems minutes are hard to spare.
It was announced more than a month ago. Mark is moving on.
Watching that press conference made me sad for those guys. Irvin and Walton have had some strange careers with that Elite 8 run followed by 2 and almost 3 down seasons. Glad they redeemed themselves and can say they won a Big Ten Title, Big Ten Tournament Title, and a winning tournament record to the list. The seniors were 6-3 in the NCAAs if you count the "first-four" and never lost a game to a lower-seeded team (sans Kentucky which shouldn't really count).
Al
Too bad Walton only played half his sophomore year, or he'd be pretty high up the charts.
Irvin and Walton can both leave with their heads high. Very nice careers by both of these guys. They have left a great legacy. The one thing they both can be proud of is leading this team to greater things after the going got tough back in early February.
Instead of riding it out, coasting to the end of the season, and shrugging their shoulders, they got to work and brought the best out of other teammates and themselves. I will remember this team for a long time. It sure was a fun ride. Thanks for letting us be a part of it Derrick and Zak.
was having a really, really rough time with some things the weekend of the BTT. I will remember Walton and Irvin, specifically, as actually having a part in pulling me through it. That BTT was a special Michigan sports memory.

Moments like that do help so much in tough times. I am glad you were able to overcome those difficulties.
Great leaders, players, and representatives for our program. All the best going forward.
I'll remember Walton for the crazy second half of his senior year.
I'll remember Irvin for beind underappreciated by the masses throughout a great career. Yeah, every possession with him was like a choose-your-own-adventure book, but I think it ended up with positively more often than not.

He acquitted himself very nicely in the last month or so.
But his ball-handling and complete wonky shot during most of his career just never resolved itself. Probably has something to do with the back.
March 24th, 2017 at 11:29 AM ^
Finished with:
- 13.0 points/game
- 4.5 rebounds
- 3.0 assists
With 52%/34%/67% on 2pt/3pt/FT.
Very good two point shooting. The three point shooting ended up as avergeish. I'll never understand the FT struggles. That'll be tough production to replace.

Odd player to pin down.
Very good defender, could hit those mid-rangers in the lane, pretty damn crafty around the rim.
On the other side, couldn't hit FTs, took a TON of ill-advised hero ball shots and basically couldn't dribble to save his life.
Despite a lot of things that were said at various points, I think at least most of us if not all will remember both their careers at Michigan in a very positive light, not just for the leadership they both were able to provide but for the things that they actually did on the court. Walton coming almost out of nowhere in the second half of this season, Irvin showing up when it mattered most even if not every possession was exactly clean - those are the things we will look back on.
Good luck to both of them in their next adventure, and they will always have that Michigan degree to look to and use as well.

You're telling me Glen Rice didn't have 100 threes? Seems like he had a hundred in the 1989 tourney alone.
Is it possible that the 3-point line only hit the floor part of the way through Glen's career?
March 24th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
Rice is in the 100 3-point club, but he's well behind Walton. Rice had 135 three pointers. The line didn't exist for Rice's freshman season, but that hardly mattered. He averaged 0.1 3PG as a soph, 1.0 as a Jr and 2.7 as a senior.
March 24th, 2017 at 11:15 AM ^
3 point line went into effect during the 1986-87 season. That would have been Glen's Sophomore year. During the first few years of the 3 point line, coaches did not utilize it like they do today. The game was still send your bigs inside and let the little guards shoot it from there.

Why is that a club? It seems arbitrarily created to highlight Walton's career. I can see having a 1000/500/500 club, or a 1000/400/400 club, maybe.
It basically shortchanges Gary Grant's career because he just barely missed the 500 rebounds, but he crushed the other two criteria. Grant's line: 2222 / 731 / 455.
Walton's 1471 / 498 / 563 is nice, but I'll take Grant's 2000 / 700 / 400 club anytime.

If Derrick Walton, Jr. finished with 499 assists, then wouldn't you have some way to go back over the tapes of all of his games to determine whether there might be ONE MORE ASSIST to add for his career, so that he can be the only member of the 1,000 Points, 500 Assists, 500 Rebounds Club? (Maybe give him the "hockey-second-assist" benefit of the doubt.) Somehow, multiples of 500 make that club look a little better than the 1,000 Points, 400 Assists, 500 Rebounds Club.
With 39 more points, four more steals and one more assist, he also would've become the only member of the 1,000 Points, 500 Assists, 500 Rebounds, 150 Steals Club.
