A Call to Arms: Breslin Edition
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our fanbase loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I what loathsome spartan feed upon my $65 stubhub tickets;
It yearns me not if classless fools my garments tear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet Victory for Michigan,
I am the most offending soul alive.
This day is call'd the Battle of Breslin.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Michigan.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow marks another spartan beat-down.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had at Battle of Breslin.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Our names shall never be as household words-
Tim Hardaway, Burke and Darius Morris,
Glenn Robinson and Daniel Horton, Manny and Deshawn
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Battle of Breslin shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
We in it will never be remembered-
Only but a few of us will ever get to take a charge,
To bleed on the court for the Maize and Blue
We can but drive into the lions den,
And brave the classless and the ignorant,
And let our Champions know that THEY ARE NOT ALONE
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in Ann Arbor now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their fanhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That stood with me and sang the Victors
As 15,000 crying spartans make their way to the exits...

YES! 2nd to the government using Pearl Harbor as a recruiting tool, this has got to be the best call to arms!

I went as a student when Novak freaked out and we won a couple years ago and it was an amazing experience. Yes, I sat on the roof basically, but they can hear you loud and clear.

You should expand upon this in a diary after we play Wisconsin on Saturday. I'd love to hear the details of what it was like to be there when their sense of invincibility was shattered.

It's been said before, but it should be repeated as often as possible. Since that game we've gone 55-17

I've never done a diary on here before, might be a good time to start. It was a pretty wild time to be sure.

I've never seen Stu hit such a sweet sweet jumper.

This couldn't have waited until Sunday?
February 6th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
Because it is reasonable that everyone is going to load up in the car and drive to Madison...
February 6th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Why wait? Whether we beat Wiscy or not there is still a game in East Lansing which should be infiltrated with maize and blue...Timing seems irrelevant to me.

BEAT WISCONSIN...THEN BEAT LITTLE BROTHER
February 6th, 2013 at 12:43 PM ^
Yup. The bad timing of this thread is on par with the timing of the game prediction threads, at least the timing those used to be posted. We would have a game prediction thread posted one day for a game that would take place three weeks later.

wisconsin is gonna be tough. Why are we overlooking them?
February 6th, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
They way they defend and take the air out of the ball, they can "variance" you to death. Every possession is going to be Uber-valuable, and I think McGary's motor is going to be KEY in that game.
I only highlighted the state game at this time because acquiring tickets(as well as making travel plans) can be a time-sensitive and price fluctuating enterprise, and I felt that as the next "home-like" game on the schedule, a lot more people would be willing/able to attend the state game(I am sure there is readership in Wisconsin, but I'm guessing that average proximity to Lansing is going to be higher).
On top of that...F sparty.

just fans, right? "We" can look ahead to the Final Four if we want.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:14 AM ^
Quite simply because fans "overlooking" a game will have zero impact on whether Michigan wins or loses.

Only on a Michigan blog do we get Shakespeare's Henry V re-purposed into a call for fans to attend a basketball game. Very nicely done.
However, and I know I'm reinforcing the stereotype here, but I was a little bothered that it didn't always fit into the iambic pentameter. But well-done nonetheless.

Just picked up my stubhub $64 special. Sitting in section 224 and have never been to any sporting event in East Lansing. Not really sure what to expect but it can't be worse then sitting in the IU student section last weekend.
