Well, he was able to stop them in 2016, but they got a defensive TD, and 2 OTs, and JT was short and so on and so on....

No doubt he needed to go now, but he was the architect of three of the best defenses I have ever seen UM field, put more than a dozen dudes into the NFL and had us among the nation's elite early in his tenure including a year AT #1. I will remember him mostly fondly.

Florida had an offense scoring points and keeping the ball away from Alabama, something Brown's defense never had.  There is no chance in hell that Michigan gives up 62 and 56 if the offense is keeping the ball and scoring as much as OSU was.

Those defenses still weren't good enough, but don't be stupid about it.

Right, what do people expect?? Michigan doesn’t let them cross midfield?? 31 points isn’t bad all against a team loaded with NFL talent. How about looking at Michigan’s offense in that game. Harbaugh has to land a QB recruit that doesn’t transfer. Harbaugh has to be able to develop a QB to win. Every team in the college playoffs has an NFL QB with Book being the only suspect guy. QB’s win in college football. Usually when their defense gives up 31the good ones find a way to get 32.

Are you being serious? The architect of 3 of the best defenses you've ever seen? Were you born in 2000? Don Brown's defenses had impressive stats beating up on bad Big10 offenses. 2016 OSU offensively is nowhere near what they've been the past couple years. They couldn't pass the ball very well back then. I'm not sure what you base a great defense on, but i'm not going to base it on the FACT that they dominated inferior teams, and gave up lots of points and yardage to any offense with real skill. Look at 2016, end of the OSU game and defense can't stop them. Say what you want about the spot, the game was lost when overrated(Yes I said it) Peppers couldn't tackle the RB in the backfield on the play before. Then the bowl game against FSU, defense gets a stop and Michigan wins the game....Couldn't do it. Not only that but they gave up 30+ points to the only good offenses they saw that year. You can have stats, i'll take a Michigan defense that actually stopped teams when it mattered and for a championship. How many times under Don Clown did we have to see our slow footed safety in the slot in man coverage against guys like KJ Hamler? Sorry, Don doesn't get credit for inheriting Hoke's defensive players. In fact, considering how well they were playing and shutting down OSU for 3 quarters in 2016, i'd say it was a complete and utter collapse in the 4th quarter and OTs. Can someone tell me exactly what made Don Brown's defense "great" for 3 of the years he was here? Was it their ability to keep offensive standouts like Rutgers, Northwestern, Illinois etc to single digits? 2016's defense could not FINISH, so they aren't great. Sure, they had quite a few draft picks from that defense but most were in the later rounds.

2016 - 4th Quarter - Michigan leading 17 - 14. Ohio State starts on their own 18 yard line with 5:31 to play.

Ohio State was able to drive to the Michigan 5 yard line and kicked the game tying field goal with one second to go. Had Brown's defense gotten a stop on that drive, Michigan wins and they aren't worried about the spot.

Leaving Hill 1 on 1 on something like 3rd and 24 with no safety help in the 3rd quarter of the 2019 Iowa game was, well, fun.

I was holding my 2 day old son and jumped out of the chair in the hospital room in disbelief.

Mother-in-law insisted on relieving me of baby holding duties until the end of the game.

While I understand the sentiment, it is even more malfeasance (on the part of both Jim and Warde) to not sign and announce the damn contract.   While our recruiting class was fine given the uncertainty, there was certainly an opportunity to make it better.    Similarly, looking for a new defensive coordinator before your head coach signs a contract is not particularly helpful.

While both sides may want to come to a deal and both sides may be comfortable taking actions consistent  with believing that they will come to a deal, not having a deal suggests there is actually some sticking point.    Little sticking points that linger for a long time in any deal can start to become bigger and bigger.

If there is no sticking point, why haven’t they just announced the deal?
