Broncos approach Harbaugh a second time

They should rename themselves the Denver Jive Turkeys.

”You got to…sass it.”
January 29th, 2023 at 8:28 AM ^
Santa and the regents need to rename Warde’s job title to former athletic director. Jim should have been given a 10-year, $125 million contract the day after he beat Ohio State in late November.
January 29th, 2023 at 11:59 AM ^
Thank God you're not the AD! You'll rework the contract every year based on The Game? What do you do after year 6 when he's 0-6? Fire him I suppose? When we lose to TCU, or worse when they turn around and lose 65-7 the next week, you'd give your coach a NEW contract? What's wrong with the one he has? It's got four more good years on it.

It's amazing that there are still people who can't simply post a link, even when the link symbol is right above this text.

Replace the paper clip with LINK in red letters with a flashing neon arrow pointing at it. Maybe we can reduce “laziness” by 10%

Why in the fuck does he have to? He said he doesn't have twitter. You got twitter ? Look it up. He said he sucks at links. Deal with it.

I upvoted him just for not having a Twitter account. F*ck Musk.
January 28th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
He’s not going anywhere this year. Next year may be a different story. Still no news about a new contract with a large buyout that would make leaving highly unlikely. It doesn’t seem like such a deal would take too much time to complete, assuming both sides wanted it…
January 28th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Contracts of this size are complicated. It probably won’t actually get finalized for weeks, if not months.
January 28th, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
The need for a contract extension was obvious by mid season. Warde has had months. This should have been done by early Dec at the latest, before the NFL carousel started spinning. Now Jim has NFL openings as leverage. Warde couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag.
January 28th, 2023 at 8:34 PM ^
This is purest speculative nonsense. We know nothing whatever about what's going on. Could be tense AF, could be purest formalities. The lame and lazy attacks on Warde. . . just guys getting their rocks off playing lemming. Weak weak weak.
January 28th, 2023 at 10:06 PM ^
Word is they won't get it done until Burgergate is totally resolved. Apparently this isn't uncommon. I believe Bacon was the one who said this on twitter.
January 28th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
Bacon on Burgergate?
January 28th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
Bacon on Burgergate... yum!
January 28th, 2023 at 11:37 PM ^
Bacon on burgers is stupid. It’s almost always rubbery even when you ask for it well done, and one bite and the whole piece of bacon slides out because it’s not ground and subject to separation like the patty it’s on top of, then you’re left with a mouthful of bacon and a regular old burger with all the toppings sliding out because the bacon slices come out as one piece and take the cheese and condiments along with it.
I am supportive of grinding cooked bacon into the patty, however!
January 28th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
Wherever you are getting your bacon cheeseburgers is doing “it” wrong.
crispy bacon. It breaks easily with every bite of the burger.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:55 AM ^
No, he's right for 95% of burgers. It's really hard to keep the bacon crisp when it's contacting rare/medium rare beef, unless it's super crisped-up. While this is great, it's hard to find.
Whole Foods used to have a turkey burger with bacon bits in it which was awesome (and of course only marginally healthier than a beef burger), but for some reason they stopped making it (at least near me)
January 29th, 2023 at 8:24 AM ^
You say that as if it were a bad thing. (I get your point. I have shared the corrupt experience you described. However, it was still pretty good.)
January 29th, 2023 at 8:40 AM ^
That has not been my experience with bacon on burgers.
January 28th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
Burgergate could take another year, so that means no extension. And if there's no extension, say "bye bye" to '24 recruiting. That's the point of the extension ... to convince recruits he will be here for the long haul.
January 28th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
Have you met Warde? He sucks, and not just because he bungled this contract situation.
Buffalo. UConn. Michigan. Which of these doesn’t match the other? We need to can this “Michigan man” shit just like acknowledging that the guy who started it all wasn’t who people thought he was.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:39 AM ^
y’all must be so happy. ya got another opportunity to twist something entirely unrelated - in this case an imaginary “oakland is still in play”-type story - into a “warde manuel suxx” post.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^
The need for a contract extension was obvious by mid season.
In what way did he deserve an extension mid season? He just signed a new contract in February of 2022. Warde might be incompetent but let’s stop acting like Harbaugh is a victim. He doesn’t need a new contract mid season after beating the worst nonconference schedule in history and one of the worst big ten conferences in recent memory. Just relax. A deal is in the works and it’s happening at the appropriate time.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
The same Warde who masterfully negotiated a contract to keep your guy two years ago when he should have been fired? LOL
I'm thoroughly impressed with the lengths you all will go to to avoid saying Harbaugh is fucking up. Nothing is ever his fault. And we get mad when they call us a cult.
January 28th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
Contracts like this are frequently put together quickly, if both sides are willing. Rhule, Fickell and Heupel are recent examples.
January 28th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
MOUs can be put together quickly, but the actual contract itself usually takes a while.
This seems like a non-story. The Broncos reached out to Harbaugh and he said no. They probably would have contacted him even if he had the new contract done. The only relevant thing is that he told them no.
January 28th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
Uhh, ths is not a contract from scratch. It's an extension. And it's the third extension. Jim Harbaugh has been the head coach at michigan since 2015. The parties could not know each other better unless they were married.
This easily could and should have been done in a few weeks. The problem is Warde and Harbaugh don't get along. Well, it's Warde's job to get along with the best football coach we've had in decades even if he has to fake it. If Warde doesn't understand that, he needs to go and President Ono needs to step in again immediately and get this done himself.
January 28th, 2023 at 10:11 PM ^
While not “from scratch” I’m sure both sides have plenty of “new” terms they want added to the deal that the other side probably isn’t too keen on and there’s still plenty that needs to be hashed out in the details
January 28th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
This is crazy. Every school that wanted to keep their HC had extensions done weeks if not months ago. Warde should have been negotiating this in November and signed no later than December. This happens every year. Schools with good coaches that want to keep those coaches scramble at the end of the season to get them re-signed fast. Michigan is the only school that can't seem to get its head out of its ass.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:37 AM ^
Listen guys there are plenty of teams trying to get their "cant miss" head coached signed just a couple days before February.
Heck just last year this same thing happened at Michigan. Its not that rare guys and cut Warde some slack.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:54 PM ^
Heck just last year this same thing happened at Michigan. Its not that rare guys and cut Warde some slack.
Pretty sure it’s been made clear that last year was Harbaugh giving the NFL serious consideration, with many reports (including his own comments) that he was taking the Vikings job if they offered. In which case, Harbaugh wasn’t signing an extension to Michigan. So I mean… yeah maybe Warde deserves to be cut some slack for last year.
January 29th, 2023 at 7:04 AM ^
I don't know if Warde Manuel knows football enough to see he has gold in Jim Harbaugh. Don't expect him to do anything right on this front. Santa Ono saw he needed to bypass Manuel. There must have been a good reason for that. Because he had to have known it was going to be offensive to Manuel. Keeping Harbaugh must have looked better then worrying about offending Manuel. After all, the offense was done publicly on twitter.
January 29th, 2023 at 8:35 AM ^
Warde Manuel knows football very well. From the outside looking in, when you are dealing with Jim Harbaugh this reality does not necessarily make the job an easier one. The reasons for Jim bypassing Warde, if it actually happened, were more than likely not based upon the best of Jim's character. Chances are very good that any blame in this regard resides in two places.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:05 AM ^
Not sure why you'd say Warde doesn't know football very well - he was a teammate of Harbaugh's under Schembechler. You don't get to play football for Bo Schembechler at Michigan, even as a career long backup, if you don't know anything about football...
January 29th, 2023 at 11:53 AM ^
if you don't know anything about football...
Who said that about Manuel?
January 30th, 2023 at 8:31 AM ^
I was answering your words...
"I don't know if Warde Manuel knows football enough to see he has gold in Jim Harbaugh."
January 29th, 2023 at 9:41 AM ^
there’s not some sort of “extensions season,” and you know it.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
This absolutely does NOT happen every year at other schools. Lol
Harbaugh needs to shit or get off the pot. If he doesn't want to be here, good riddance.
Bama wouldn't tolerate this foolishness from Saban but yall let a man who's 1-6 in money time, 2-6 in The Game and 1-2 vs Mel Tucker shit on us every year. It makes no sense.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
Takes two to tango. It’s easy for you to sit here and say Warde should have had this done and Harbaugh should have signed weeks/months ago. But that ignores the part Harbaugh (and by extension, his agent) plays in this. Warde can try negotiating with Harbaugh all he wants. Harbaugh can also wait until he has the most leverage and get the best terms he can possibly get, which includes using the NFL to his benefit. Or even giving the NFL a real look like he did last year. Why would he sign a contract extension early if that’s his intention?
Point being, we don’t know the details here. Playing the blame game based on assumptions when Harbaugh is already under contract for multiple years on a deal that paid him north of $10 million this season is a fools game.
We also just signed Harbaugh to an extension in the spring. Why would Warde need to be working on ANOTHER extension in November and December? Is it not on Harbaugh at that point to make it clear that the current contract isn’t to his liking and he would like to renegotiate?
Look, Warde is deserving of plenty of criticism. We don’t need to reach and make assumptions without any details to do that here.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:50 AM ^
Your assumption that a contract hasn’t been signed because Warde and JH don’t “get along” is pure unfounded speculation. There are so many possible details that could be slowing this process down. You have no idea what is actually occurring.
January 28th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
No, they aren’t. Contracts for professional players and coaches are essentially fill in the blanks, check which boxes.
Also, in the grand scheme of contracts $125m can be done overnight if necessary.
January 29th, 2023 at 6:35 AM ^
It doesn't matter to me when the contract is finalized. I want Jim Harbaugh to settle it in his own mind, and stay with the decision. He's going to leave after this season now?
January 29th, 2023 at 6:25 AM ^
Dan Quinn doesn’t even want any of these jobs. Rather coach the good side of the ball in Dallas, or a college team than Denver Indy or AZ. Hell AZ coach left the country to remove his name from this lot.
