Does he say exactly when the diagnosis was decided or is this another one where that major question has been avoided? That would tell us all we need to know yes???

“I think there are a lot of people who have decided to not like me who have never met me or have probably never met me or have never been in the same room as me, so I need to fix that"

That's so passive agressive and arrogant.

"Outstanding" relationship with the students? I can personally attest to that statement being a lie. Even last year, when this hadn't come to a head yet, very few (if not NONE, but I don't want to be so absolute) amongst my friends at Michigan had anything positive to say about Brandon. And we're talking maybe 50 other students I had this coversation with throughout last year.

Fast forward to this year, when I spent all of my Sunday night copy pasting the petition link to every M student I know. Not a single person declined to do it, and most messaged back expressing gratitude that someone had started the petition.

That isn't an outstanding relationship.

Stop politicking, Dave. It isn't going to work and we don't believe you.

What I love most is everyone offering opinions on things that they literally have no idea about.  It's like being able to sit a row behind that guy at games, but not leave your den.

I'm not even saying that everyone is wrong.  Sometimes you sti behind a guy who says really interesting things.  It's just the bloviating by a bunch of people who have never been involved in a major college sports or football program.  Awesome!  You guys do get the echo chamber part about all of this, right?

Fair point.  But it's not that I think nobody can criticize Brandon or Hoke (full disclosure -- I was against hiring a .500 coach at the time, and said to my family room during the Minny game and the injury debacle -- "I think he might be fired for this" -- it's just the moral certainty and jumping on every single thing.  People are mostly talking through their hats.  But very insistently.  Mobs can sometimes be good, but this really is a mob sort of thing going on.

Completely tone deaf to the situation. I understand that Dave has to protect himself but I'm sorry, that interview left me disgusted. Maybe I read to much into it but his seeming nonchalance about the incident and what transpired between Saturday and Tuesday really bothers me.

No sense of urgency in his actions.

I love Michigan football too, but I honestly can not understand why he puts up with this crap.  I would have walked up to that group of idiots and given them the "Alright, F-you.  Good luck" speech.  Taken the family someplace warm for 6 months or so, maybe take the grandkids to Europe.  FInd a cozy spot on the beach to watch the rest of the season and laugh at the poor sucker that was dumb enough to take this job.  Kick back and watch the world burn.  Come back refreshed, maybe take over a division of Apple or Microsoft...Get some nice floor seats at Crisler...maybe next to the governor, and enjoy the house that I helped to build.  Sounds about right.

to be competent. So that eliminates Brandon.

As Brian noted it was Martin who headed the effort to refurbish Crisler so your wrong about that.

Canham was a billion times better than Brandon. He too was an UM grad--and he was actually a good athlete!. He took a moribund football program and within a few years made it a national power.  He GREW interest in  UM football.

Canham hired Bo, Johnny Orr, and some guy named Red Berenson. Michigan athletics exploded in popularity under his watch.

In contrast, Dave Brandon has managed to shrink interest in Michigan football. He did this by engaging in the cronyism so prevalent in corporations. The best coaches on campus--Hutchins, Berenson, and Beilein--were hired by someone else. The worst--Hoke--is his lone significant hire.

He can go to Paris,  eat snails, and triumphantly march through the Arc de Triumphe pretending he is Napoloen coming back from Austerlitz for all I care.

And Brandon hit the nail on the head, and I was surprised he did it. T.V. Is the reason for the downfall of all attendance problems. Why go, fight traffic, fight crowds, pay that much when I can stay home. No rawk music, no $5 water. I can has whiskey. I can pause the game. Rewind, slow-mo, change to a different game, two at once...

Again, people.

Stop with the hypotheticals about "if we were a winning team that was 4-1/5-0, you wouldn't be complaining about Dave Branding"  That is as demonstratably laughable as saying "if the Middle Ages hadn't been thwacked with the bubonic plague, peasants wouldn't be complaining about the rat problem"  The athletic department has created a toxic and dysfunctional culture within its flagship program that precludes any kind of organizational success.  And having a Saban or Petersen here wouldn't fix that because a Saban or Petersen would nope the fuck outta that shit no matter how many dolla dolla bills Michigan throws their way.

The players and talent are there.  Staffwise, we may be mostly or partially there.  But the process of once again attaining a successful football program we can be proud of from top to bottom can only start with firing Dave Branding.

And "Big Money Guys" in and around A2, how can anyone believe he will be fired? Like he said all local businesses, hotels, taxi, restaurants, benefit from the "Events" that old blue bloods complain of and hold against him... The real issue is the students, of which I never was one at UofM, so maybe I'm a little off... This is supposed to be about the students, at least have discussions with them. Don't take their water bottles. Don't complain when they aren't there at 11 am for noon games. Find ways to bring them out. This is for them, the best times of their lives. I'm willing to compromise, if they want uniformz I say ok, as long as they are tasteful. Let's lose the legacy jersey shit, they want to make their own name out there...

I know he's a student reporter, but man he let Brandon off the hook...  The biggest issue is student tickets.  He let Brandon talk for many minutes uninterupted and didn't point out the insane price increase when Brandon mentioned the 8000 drop in tickets.  He didn't bring up how condescending Brandon was to students re: cell phones.  Those are things that Brandon needs to answer for - don't let him give his 6 minute spin on the abysmal failure of the student section caused by his administration's decisions.

This might be a long list in numerous parts, but here goes:

1.  I don't believe Dave Brandon discusses every injury in the locker room immediately after the game, as he stated.

Come on. At least Hoke said the right thing: this is a big boy business. Nobody cares about Dave Brandon's feelings as a human being except for his friends and family. We want him to be good at his job. It's ludicrous for him to play the "it was hurtful" card. Don't suck at your job, Dave. Don't tell us that you don't know how Hoke found out that Shane was concussed and that you don't know why he wasn't informed when you were.

Somebody knew by 1:30 am on Tuesday morning that Morris had sufferend a concussion.  How can Brandon say he doesn't know how Hoke found out, as late as today's interview with the Daily?  Wasn't Hoke in the loop when whoever found out, found out?  If Brandon knew and didn't know whether Hoke knew, why didn't Brandon just tell Hoke:  "Hey, did you know Shane had a concussion?"  Particularly since Brandon knew Hoke had said in the press conference Monday that he didn't know.

Brandon is so detached from leading the program that he doesn't want to know, or hasn't been able to find out, how and even whether the communication problem that prevented Hoke from finding out Saturday had been fixed?  That's not a question of immediate and urgent interest to him?

Tricky Dave indeed.  Why is he still acting this way?

His media blitz of half-truths and lies is incredibly unbecoming.  His complete disloyalty to Hoke in order to try to save himself is about as distatsteful as it gets.  Distancing himself from the process of how Hoke learned about the concussion, and lying about it, is an embarrassment to the university.   He must go.

Can these wannabe journalists ask some real questions about this mess? Why wasn't Hoke one of the "principal parties" meeting on Sunday? Whose job was it to tell Hoke before Monday when he was going to get grilled on this? Has he asked Hoke why Hoke didn't contact any of this "principal parties" before the press conference Monday to get an update? Have these two still not talked since Saturday's game? If so, about what and when? Come on guys!

at this point we are all doomed.  Dave Brandon does not get it.  Concussion protocol has been established and accepted everywhere!  Already!  The only two people who don't know that are Brandon and Hoke.  So, Brandon decides Michigan needs to create their own process.  And one of them doesn't recognize that wearing a headset will help communication.  And neither knows the established protocols; even today.

We don't doubt that their hearts are in the right place.  We don't doubt that Hoke loves his players.

We doubt their competence.

In fact, we have proof they are incompetent.  Period.

Schlissel and the Regents need to stop this as soon as possible.

I said IF there is no motivation by the department to profit, then why is your hand in my pocket every time I turn around? I'm surprised your 1 am statement wasn't brought to you by DTE, another organization that says they are not for profit! But believe me they aren't for system reliability or customer satisfaction. They are about nepitism, doing just enough not to get fired, and protecting those in they Union. Believe me I work closely with the energy companies, the equipment is so run down and krangley when I come home and I have power, I say a little thank you...
