Brandon Minor, Sample-size All-American

Submitted by Huss on
During these dog days of summer, in between sessions of stroking my own ego and genitilia, I occasionally peruse stats and seek to share some of these facts-that-may-only-interest-me with the rest of the Michigan fan community. This will be brief, but I enjoyed exploring this and wanted to share this with you. My only friends. Brandon Minor is suh-weet. Like sweet ass, suh-weet. One thing I couldn't bother researching, but I hope one of you will, is touches-per-TD ratio and the nation's leaders. I'm pretty sure Minor would rank in the top 5 amongst those with 100+ carries. With 11 touchdowns on just 108 touches(5 receptions, 2 TDs included), Mandingo Thunder averaged a TD once ever 10 touches. That's sweet ass suh-weet, no? As odd a fit for our spread offense he would seem to be at first glance, it's really not that unprecedented under RichRod with Kay Jay Harris fucking shit up at a tremendous clip(despite only starting 6 career games) at WVU and Oregon trouting out All-everything bulldozers like Johnathon Stewart and, now, Lagarette Blount. Those guys are both already/will be stud NFL backs thanks to their rare blend of size and acceleration(note: not speed. who gives a fuck about speed if it takes you forever to reach top-gear), and Minor figures to join them. My favorite statistic from last year is that Minor had 7 games in which he broke a 20 yard run. For comparisons sake, Jahvid Best - easily the most explosive back in the country - had 8 games(not including bowl game). Kendall Hunter had 8. Javon Ringer had 6. Lesean McCoy had 7. Noel Devine had 7. There's a myriad of factors that contribute to Minor's production(not the least of which is his relative lack of a workload), but to be in that kinda company - read: guys who played in coherent offenses - while playing on such a shittacular offensive unit is kinda noteworthy. I'm not making any predictions for Brandon this upcoming season. For all we know, he'll contract fumbleitis again and Carlos Brown will kick some ass instead. All I will say is, when healthy, that mother fucker will be fucking.shit.up. Seacrest. Out.

That's the whole point of RR's offense. Get quick guys in space so every play is a potential touchdown. Completely the opposite from Lloyd whose game plan was to pick up a couple yards to make for a manageable 3rd down conversion with the occasional deep ball. I am very excited to see this offense evolve the next couple years with a competent signal caller. I also would be very interested in comparing Minor to other top backs (maybe prev M backs) touches to TD's ratios.

That he had that many games with a 20 yrd run. Another out of whack stat I came across was MSUs lack of production rushing in conference play(110 yds/game). That was good for 10th in the conference and easily behind UM which was aroung 150/game. How did a team go 6-2 in conference while being outgained in league play by 35 yds/game? MSU overachieved last year, and thats a testament to good coaching and fundamentals but obviously the margin for error is very thin.

MSU had an extremely favorable turnover margin in its six conference wins, which helped it win a few games in which it was statistically outplayed. Turnover margin is pretty flukish and not really something that can be coached. MSU did have a very negative TO margin in its losses to OSU and PSU. That too is fluky - but both games were 30+ point blowouts.

is 100% pure win: Humor / vulgarity + some good analytical points. Keep it coming. I think we're all hoping that Minor will blow it up this year.

The RB's, especially Minor, need to stay healthy and hang on to the football. If this happens then Michigan will have much better command of the clock on offense compared with last season. The D will need the help.
