Bowl Substitution: CMU now playing Wazzu in Sun Bowl
Boise State's Covid issues have kept them from traveling to Arizona for the Barstool Sports Bowl.
CMU was already down there, so they'll now just bus over to El Paso to take Miami's spot in the Sun Bowl.
Other game details remain the same.

So that means the prestigious Barstool Bowl is being cancelled?

It has been renamed the Rappaport Memorial Bye Week.

I was looking forward to the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl Thread on Friday and the mod response to it.

Realistically the halftime show probably was going to be pretty entertaining.

Word on the street is that the trophy was modeled after Portnoy's twitter handle "StoolPresidente":

My understanding is that if there's a need to depict feces in a meme for purposes of humor or dramatic effect, it's customary to use a cartoon rendering of feces rather than a high-resolution image of actual feces.

here is the espn link on the substitution:
summary here: Both teams lost opponents to COVID-19 issues. Miami withdrew from the Sun Bowl on Sunday, sending the bowl scrambling for an opponent for the Cougars. That spot was filled by the Chippewas after their scheduled opponent, Boise State, withdrew from the Barstool Arizona Bowl on Monday.

MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION - do the surviving teams get DOUBLE SWAG!!!
December 27th, 2021 at 9:45 PM ^
I was told when placing our bowl orders that there could be no substitutions.
I think we would like to change our opponent now.

So do some of these teams have the chance to win two bowls - one by forfeit, one by game results?

Thats great , it sucks for many of these college seniors who get deprived of one last game .

What an upgrade!

According to SI, 13x difference in the payouts. $4.55 million for Sun Bowl vs $350K for Arizona Bowl. That's 6x ($750K) - 9x ($500K) what CMU would get for playing a Power 5 team during the regular season plus they get national exposure on a game televised on CBS.
December 27th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
Do you think the payout is still the same? I read the SI article and perhaps CBS will keep the same contract without trying to renegotiate, but that still doesn't mean CMU would get the regular Sun Bowl payout.

CMU has a lot of leverage. If they didn't agree to play in the Sun Bowl, CBS will lose a lot of advertising dollars plus it will have a hole in their TV schedule. CBS needs CMU more than CMU needs the Sun Bowl. Hope the CMU negotiators realized this before agreeing to play in the Sun Bowl.

CMU must feel how I feel tonight. I won $50 on a $10 scratcher.

Hope they can play. I hope ALL the teams still waiting can play.

Can CMU play split squad games and the money for both games? Just throwing it out there
December 28th, 2021 at 2:16 AM ^
I wasn't going to watch this but now I am. I know this is serious stuff but it is also a ton of fun for fans to see their team play all of the sudden. I would love to see some teams go at it if I had my pick. They should have a fan bowl that is decided on a Monday for the following Friday every year. I would like to see some of the military schools take on a Power 5 school with no real notice.

So question - does CMU stand a chance in this game, or will it be similar to a payday game early in the season (not one against MSU)? I haven't paid much attention to either CMU or WSU this year, so I don't know anything about this matchup...
December 28th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
On a pure talent on the field standpoint, CMU is a decided underdog but WSU had to fire many of their coaches (including head coach) because of COVID-protocol non-compliance earlier this season and smaller bowl games often come down to just who cares more so it’s not out of the realm of possibility CMU wins.
But the most likely outcome is Wazzu just pastes them, yeah.

Damn, whoever the guy is who was involved in the role of Director of Player Personnel has this team full of talent and in a great position going forward. Wish we could hire a guy like that after losing Courtney Morgan!
