Bob Stoops takes cheap shot at Michigan

Submitted by Maizen on

Bob Stoops on time off: "You get 2 weeks off, then for spring break you get a week -- unless you're at Michigan..."

maybe you should worry about your own team and not what UM is doing. I would be willing to bet you would have a hard time finding one player complain about having a week of Spring practices in Florida.

I assume this is from Big XII Media Days, which both reporters have been covering most feverishly. I can't wait to hear David Beatytry to sell them on the idea that this year is THE year....for someone, but possibly not Kansas. A Charlie Weis-sized cutout of a vague figure could stand in the corner while he speaks too.

What's insulting about it? Reads like a compliment to me.

Unless you think working hard is insulting. In that case yes-quite the dig indeed

I can't figure out how to slide a "circle the wagons" reference into the conversation.  I can literally think of nothing else.  Someone help.

Last year Harbaugh improved Michigan by 5 games. Stoops got housed by a below .500 Texas team and embarrased by Clemson. Personally, I like Harbaugh to add 5 more wins this year. (Yes, I know what this means).

EVERYONE is talking about him. EVERYONE.

I can't remember this many opposing coaching bitching/complaining/making snide comments about Michigan since, well, EVER.  I mean, yeah, coaches in the Big Ten have always made remarks.  But on a national level?  Constantly?  Never seen it in the 40 years I've been a fan.

Bring it.  Harbaugh has everyone constantly thinking about his program.  Which means kids are constantly thinking about his program.  And in today's ADHD world, that kind of constant attention is worth more than gold.

Some kids will be turned off or scared.  More will want to come play for him, especially the ones that want to work their ass off and get better.

Considering he has B1G in his blood (born in Youngstown, played/coached at Iowa), I think it's more of a hat tip our way.  And I respect the job he's done at OU, so I wouldn't be so quick to talk about his record in big games (4-6 in BCS games).

Not a cheap shot. It's the truth. At Michigan you realize that spring break is for people who NEED a break. We need a championship, and thus we work.

what I find absolutely baffling, is that only Mike Leach has aligned himself in this public realm, with Harbaugh. id have figured others would've also symbolically done so...rather it seems it the entire world save Leach, against us.

How do you get to the top in a highly competitive field? Work your ass off... If you want to sell yourself short for four weeks of spring break in college, then don't complain when you are in the Arena Football League.

I love how coaches taking shots at Harbaugh basically amount to "He really cares about football and being good at it.  If you go there, he's going to work you hard."  Sure, some kids will be turned away from that, but I'm not sure comparing your program to another and saying you are implicitly less interested in being the best is the best comparison.  And yes, I absolutely do believe kids should have time off; it's just weird that Stoops would frame it this way.

I only had Big 12 team on my hate list.  Now I got two.  For most weeks of the season, I'll have two rooting interests in the Big 12, with only 1 week of the year where I'll  have to be indifferent.

How can he Stoops so low?

edit: I hate when I come up with something I think is witty, but didn't see... only to then find the same bad pun a moment later.

Ok, I was going to sit this one but I had to. First, I didn't take that as a dis but if it was, he got what he came for here because some of you guys have torn him a new ass. As I'm reading the posts, I'm remembering some of the games and saying yeah that's right, Pat White, RR and W.Virginia did use them as a toilet during a big bowl game. Then I'm remembering Adrian Peterson single handedly bringing them back in a big game when he went away from A.P. and BAM!!!! He gets the Ol Statue of Liberty play ran on him and loses to Boise State with no time left. He always seems to lose the big games he's heavily favored to win. The Statue of Liberty play . . . REALLY?

I love it when people representing other teams bring up the fact that Michigan's football team took a trip to Florida together over spring break.

News flash: despite what MTV portrays, most college kids can't afford to take a trip to Cancun to get bombed with their friends on the beach over spring break.  Spring break for a lot of kids entails hanging out with their parents or crashing at a friend's house near campus.  Put in that light, the fact that Michigan paid a lot of money to give its team an awesome bonding experience sounds pretty excellent.

I read it as a respectful, sarcastic humorous jab at a colleague. I think Bob Stoops has a lot of respect for JH. All in good fun, unlike Butch Jones.

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail. --------------------> www.CenterPay70.com
