Birthday Brag

Submitted by CJRockford on May 17th, 2020 at 9:27 PM

Got a special birthday surprise today.  My phone rang with a FaceTime call today.  It was my old next door neighbors and good friends from when I lived in Tampa.  He is now the Vice President at Morgan State University.  Also on the video call was one Mr. Tyrone Wheatley, who of course is now the Head Coach at Morgan State.  We talked for a few minutes, he wished me a Happy Birthday and thanked me for supporting Michigan for all these years and talked about how he faced Rockford (where I currently live) in the state playoffs back in his High School days.  Have to admit that I felt like a little kid talking to one of my all time favorite Wolverines!!

see below, larry.  now we need to figure out if you're married to the same woman, or you and EYB are duplicate accounts, with different hair problems in your avatars.  mgonational enquirer wants to know...

Those guys were good to great.. and I would say I loved Mike Hart because he didn't fumble and his ability to miss the first hit, shifty right?. Biakabatuka ... well his potential showed up sometimes and WOW! Of course. Chris Perry was a very solid RB but not on the level of TY.

TY had that classic RB frame, consistency, with extra special ability imo.

And speed. Watch the highlights on youtube.

And Wheatley was a man among boys in high school. We used to help with the indoor state track meets at UM and one our tasks was to "recruit" him to run track as well as focus on football. He was a high level hurdler and world class long jumper. He helped Michigan win a Big Ten track title. He was a Michigan legend in my perspective

That's awesome! Happy Birthday!

Met Wheatley and the Coaching staff at one of the Satellite camps some years ago.

He was larger than life when I was growing up. Made me think like I was a youngster again, even though we're about the same size.

Just looked up his height and the Combine said he's 6'0. And it says he ran a 4.53. That's moving for a guy his size but I still though he was much faster.

He would gave been a top 5 pick if he entered the draft after his Junior year.  At the time I was ecstatic he came back for his Senior season, but history has proven you should leave early if you can go in the 1st Rd.

Although I was disappointed at the time, Ty Law, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson made the right call.

Was just going to post same thing.

Pretty sure Tyronne was about the last (please note I didn't say THE last) player of prominence who decided to stay that last year even though he was projected top 5 in draft. Everyone saw what price he paid and learned from it.

Dude was an absolute beast as a rb though.  I'll put his 93 Rose Bowl game up against Touchdown Timmy's 95 OSU game as the two best games I ever saw a Michigan RB have.
