Big Ten title postgame presser: Harbaugh, JJ, Corum and Sainristil

Submitted by GLORY on December 4th, 2023 at 11:45 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this.  The presser speaks volumes about Harbaugh, the players and the culture at Michigan.  They have so much love and respect for each other.  You listen to Harbaugh speak so glowingly about his players as if they were his own kids.  And vice versa.  Who wouldn't want to send theirs to play for Harbaugh and Michigan?  We are very fortunate to have him as our coach.  Just fucking LOVE Harbaugh.

Hope we extend him a lifelong contract.

I’ve never seen a football team use the word Love so much.  And I loved it!
the Michigan difference.
he won’t find it and you can’t create that in the nfl.

My favorite interview from this season was after the big championship. The fox crew has Semaj and Blake over. Urban asks Blake why is Michigan such a good second half team, what is your secret? Blake’s goes on about how the coaches really coach.

Maybe, the “double secret” things Herbert does during S&C?

Or, the signs.  What signs, you ask?   The signs that say…

1. Be better today than you were yesterday, and better tomorrow than you are today.

2. Approach each task with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

3. What have you done to defeat Ohio State today?

Other schools have signs too.  The difference is.. the players in Michigan’s locker room read those signs and actually act upon them.

gosh, i bet there is loads of film where nick saban's players say this about nick....loads.

as an aside, a sparty friend of mine who is a great guy was at a sparty hoops practice recently.  he said izzo was non-stop screaming, f-bombs, the whole bit, and directed at virtually every single player.  i get that you have to break a few eggs to make an omlette, but, ah, you don't have to break every one of them.  i wonder how good izzo's recruiting would be if someone (connor stalion?) videoed that verbal flood of joy and posted it for the world to see.

There’s certainly more than one way to make a point.

As my wife and I raised our children, we always thought about positive reinforcement - academically and athletically.   So, one of our questions to them after an athletic event wasn’t “What did you do wrong?”   It was “What could you have done better?”

We also asked, “What did you do well?”

The glass can be half empty, or half full… we think in terms of.. half full.

My husband was so good at this. He went to almost every baseball and softball game, and would break down the performance, always starting with, "I love the way you......" got your glove under the ball, extended to make that catch, whatever it was, and then the kid could see that everything wasn't awful (one of my kids let a single mistake become the entire narrative of the game). You don't have to coddle them, but positive reinforcement is really important for learning, too, in addition to understanding the mistakes.

Gawd what a group! Gotta say it's been since the 1997 team that I have seen this cohesion for a three year stretch and a "culture". Harbaugh's steering wisdom is one thing but the team leaders character for these three years has been impressive.

Hutch/Ross and Mike/Blake and Vastardis/Bell in particular. The second level leaders (not voted Captains) are deep and set them up well for each year. If these are the type people emerging as vanguards in life's endeavors then I feel way better about all our futures.

Just don't see much dissension and I am sure the Portal down the road will offer a few cracks in this armor as happened with Cade/Erick. They all have their reasons and life choices to follow so kudos to all of them for being in the arena.

Yes, different times which is why it impresses me all the more. This is new school impressing old school. I look to Doug Skene for some insight here and he expresses similar sentiment. They are all unique but I haven't gotten this feeling from a Michigan football team in a long time.

Yep, I watched this last night. I can't remember a team (any team, in any sport) that has the cohesion and love that this Team has. End of the day, this all reflects back very positively on Harbaugh, and the type of person he recruits. Our culture is fantastic.

It would be nice if they could get his extension finalized.

Somewhat tangential question (but I figured asking it here was better than starting a whole new thread about it): It looks to me like JJ hasn't had his trademark smiley face drawn on his hand for a while now. Does anyone know anything about that? Just curious if there is a story there.

The 2020 season was awful, Harbaugh was overweight a little, walked with a limp, and the team had a bad vibe.

We can say a lot about this group's culture, cohesion, love for one another, and the on-field success.

I am just very, very curious about the backstory about Harbaugh's turnaround and the team turnaround after the covid season...I have this sense that something major with him changed and it subsequently changed everything.
