I am skeptical about this as IMHO this is all for show as I am sure that "actions" will be taken by baylor so that the Board will be happy and then they will get all their withheld funds. Now if this was a fine, that would have some real teeth.

Still makes me sick knowing that fan base still backs Joe Pa. after knowing what he knew and failed to do. I may live in the middle of nowhere where not much happens but at least our native citizens aren't even close to that pathetic. That movie Fargo is like the only blemish and they had to make a movie and series about it.

Penn St at least somewhat cleaned house. Baylor only fired people when public pressure absolutely forced them to and even then, did so begrudgingly.

Penn State and took away their bowl share of money. Here is the censure:
"Censure: The accepted findings support the conclusion that our colleagues at Penn State, individuals that we have known and with whom we have worked for many years, have egregiously failed on many levels—morally, ethically and potentially criminally. They have failed their great university, their faculty and staff, their students and alumni, their community and state—and they have failed their fellow member institutions in the Big Ten Conference. For these failures, committed at the highest level of the institution, we hereby condemn this conduct and officially censure Penn State."

I heard or read someone suggest they just kick them out for cause (though who knows what that contract looks like) and then offer a spot to Houston. That seems like a more fitting punishment.

I posted that thought on Reddit. Not sure if that's where you read it or not, but I think that's the way to go here. Between this and the Bliss murder coverup from the early 2000s, there's no reason to keep Baylor in the Big 12. They are shitty and deceitful all in the name of athletics. Given that they aren't a blue blood program in that conference, they have no rivalries, and have only been relevant for a few years, there is zero incentive to keep them in the Big 12. None of the other schools would miss them if they were gone.
If the investigation finds Baylor guilty, and the details continue to look awful for not just Briles and staff, but the admin at Baylor, then just kick them the fuck out. There's zero reason to keep them. Houston would gladly take their place, and the conference is rich enough to fight Baylor's lawsuit for breach of contract or whatever in court. The end result of which would probably be a settlement and Baylor out of the Big 12.
The only, I repeat ONLY way to reach and truly punish these schools is through the wallet. Kicking them out of the Big 12, would be many, many, more times impactful than a death penalty.

because then they'd drop into the AAC. No big time athletics means a significant drop in revenue and a significant dip in quality of student enrollment. I'm sure Baylor has benefitted greatly from their recent football-basketball successes

This is all PR bullshit. Baylor's cut is going into an escrow account until they allow the Big 12 to do an independent review. Then they get all the money back.
Just the Big 12 trying to make themselves look good. If they had done this years ago, it may have made a tiny difference, but now all the changes are already done.

Meh. I'm guessing the escrow account part is about avoiding a lawsuit. unless they have legal cover to actually take the money from baylor in the contract, this might be their only option. Personally, i'd love to see them give the money to abuse victims funds or other charitable foundations. They should also take away Baylor's vote in the conference until change is made.

It will impact their budget and operations to some extent. But, yeah, their accountants will need to put in some work to make sure that operations continue unabated while they wait for 25% of a significant revenue line item to reappear.

The Big Ten took PSU's bowl renevue share and donated it to child abuse prevention charities. It was about $12 million.
The Big 12 is not taking any money from Baylor, they are "holding" it until they do a review. Baylor will receive every penny, this is just to get them to hurry up.

I guess my question to the Big 12 is this - why is Baylor still allowed a seat at your table? I think the last nearly years of incidents here and there culminating with recent revelations would in theory make them an anathema to collegiate athletics and the supposed mission of the NCAA and indeed conferences and programs everywhere. Yet, the Big 12 lets them live despite all this.

Yes, that will really teach them. They wouldn't have even had a "run" if not for harboring criminals, so i see no reason they won't do it again. The only way a conference and the teams therein can gain the moral high ground is to remove the derelicts completely - not a buy your way out of anything deal
