Best football game of the last five years?

Submitted by OHbornUMfan on
I had the 2007 Notre Dame game on my DVR specifically to get me through the winter months (and, occasionally, November). My wife claims that she wasn't the one who deleted it, but I'm skeptical. This comes to mind because I've been seeing Jimmy pop up on SportsCenter recently, and I'd love to sit back and watch him fumble, quail, quiver, and crumble. But I can't. What one game from the last five years would you like to be able to watch over and over again between now and the Spring Game? My vote goes to the bowl win over the Gators. The sheer volume of amazing plays, some of which convinced young Mr. Arrington to depart for the NFL a tad early, the raw power of our offensive unit, and beating the fastest team ever to face a plodding (hah!) Big Ten squad. So let's compile a list of favorites, out of which we can debate a top elevten. New! Productive! Positive! Thready!

OP said last 5 seasons so 05 is the farthest back we can go, right? Cap 1 bowl 06 ND 07 ND 09 ND 08 UW 05 PSU 08 Minn 06 PSU - knocking out all their QBs + a few they had to grab from the stands 07 MSU - Mario being Mario 09 WMU - because of the hope eternal it sprung - never mind it was crushed a few short weeks later

That 06 PSU game was absolutely epic. our 2006 season (my sophomore year) was defined by our defense, and knocking 2 QBs out of a game, at happy valley, was the definition of a dominant defense. http://maizeandgoblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/BranchKnockOutPSU… (relatively new and not sure how to post pictures yet, so i included the link)

Michigan's Capital One bowl victory. Lloyd goes out in style, Tebow and Florida, so certain they would not just win but wipeout Michigan just got beat. Beat down. Not from bad calls or some mistake or injury. Just whipped. That was fun and I always make sure to catch it on the Big Ten network. If there was ever a loss that was a great game it was losing to tOSU after Bo's passing.

It might not have been the best pure football, but it is Tebow's only bowl game loss, and it was an upset. I was so scared of this game that I chose to attend the Outback Bowl (Wiscy/UT) and miss the first quarter or so. I still watch my tape of this from time to time, especially when I need a little "boost" to get me through a crappy sports week.

I can't just think of one game that I would put at the top. My list would be as follows: 2005 Michigan State 2005 Penn State 2006 Notre Dame 2006 Penn State 2007 Penn State 2007 Michigan State 2008 Wisconsin 2009 Western Michigan 2009 Notre Dame

Cap One Bowl-I watched that game at a sports bar that happend to be where the Gator Kansas City Alumni Club meets. Before the game almost 100 Gator fans were beyond confident talking about how the Gators were no APP-State. By the 4th quarter the small band of Michigan fans took over the Gator cheer. 2 bits 4 bits 6 bits a buck all florida gators go home you suck!!

Only because I was at a bar full of Notre Dame happies, I thought we lost the game at least three times, and went crazy when we actually won the game. I was running around like a girl that just won Ms. Teen Vermont. It was awesome! Tate Forcier became the real deal that game.

The "Citrus" vs. Florida. I don't know that any game was more emotionally satisfying outside of 1997. Honorable mention (again) - 2005 PSU, maybe the most exciting ever, and 2006 ND. Was going to hitthe game and then hit my best friend's wedding reception in K-Zoo, but the prople I was going with had to come back from the game early, so I just went and watched the game at the bar with the groom beforehand. He appreciated the wedding present (though I really wanted to see us win down there since I had suffered through some losses since the Remy game). I can't complain about PSU 06 or any of the MSU wins, either. Though by some people's definition of "5 years", I may include the '69 OSU game...

This thread is making me sad. I loved all of these wins and have the broken liver to prove it but.... Gawd we had some streaks going until the last few years. PSU was getting owned for a LONNNNNGGGGGG time. Those effin' Sparties couldn't sh** for a long time - and they had to cheat to get their last win.... I can tell you - I never took it for granted but these 2 years have really strengthened my love for this school and this team. BTW is anyone on Penn State gonna' cover MM on the last play? Still gives me shivers.

reading this thread. Thank you all for reminding me of so many great times in the Big House. I feel blessed to have attended each of the home games mentioned. 2006 ND and taking it to Urban Meyer and Tebow were fantastic days watching on tv as well. Sometimes it's easy to get so enamored with what's happening next week, what happened last week or what happened the last two seasons. If you look at the big picture like this though, 'it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine' is an understatement. Here's to great moments like these in the next 5!
