Bell didn't lose the game!

Submitted by LSA84 on October 20th, 2019 at 9:55 PM

DPJ dropped 2 passes that would've made a difference.  Nico dropped one.  Shea threw an awful INT on a screen pass that led to a PSU TD.  The refs failed to call PI on obvious plays.  Gattis (or Harbaugh) called 2 stupid run plays after we got inside the 10.  The D didn't hold twice when we needed it, including at the end when all of the 100,000 inside the stadium and everyone watching on TV knew PSU would run the ball.  The only difference for Bell was timing.

Please stop the stupid threads about Bell.

I'm old enough to remember the days of happy hour with friends or coworkers talking football exclusively in person.

If there were the miserable whiny bitches who knew nothing other than to share faux misery and claim the coach should be fired, we ridiculed them to their face and stopped inviting them into our company.

Now?

Sheesh.

Aw man, I wish I'd seen this before I emailed Bell about it.

What a shit show. Our team lost a game, and somehow terrible fans have made it even worse.

I'm not usually the post or topic police but it seems you are asking for it with this one. You posted a topic about Bell asking people to stop with the stupid threads about Bell? You could have said this in one of the other several. At least I'm trying something different with a hoops post below.

Actually, if it is buried as a post in another thread—who sees it! But if he posts the point as a thread, perhaps it stops the rest of the hot takes.

Pretty easy to mock him—but it is kind of like telling a teacher that has to yell louder for his or her students to stop being loud. In this case, the OP is right and it is the one authority that should shut the fucking students up. (It won’t, because fans gotta fan, ‘Muricans gotta free speech, but the OP is teacher.)

This game was a perfect confluence of unfortunate events that led to the better team losing.

1. PSU's punter was playing out of his damn mind and we kept having to start drives within the 10.

2. The receivers all had multiple big drops. It was baffling.

3. The refs made some heinous calls that disproportionately harmed us, and it just so happened that those calls were often immediately followed by huge plays from PSU.

Bell definitely lost the game. But you are right that other players on other plays also lost the game and that it's ridiculous for people to shit all over Bell when we wouldn't have even been in the position to win if it weren't for his other accomplishments in the game.

It really sucks that he didn't make that catch but I'm sure he feels way worse than any of us do about it. Even Julio Jones fails to make crucial catches sometimes. It's ridiculous that some fans are holding Bell to an impossible standard. As fans, we should support our players. The fans who only care about results don't understand football and have no appreciation for the game.

Bell certainly did not lose the game. Had he scored Michigan would still not have had the lead. Yes, the extra point is generally made, but that would only have tied the score. Bell failed to catch a ball - that certainly didn't award PSU 28 points. Those points are what lost the game.

I feel like we’re arguing pretty much the same thing here but describing it differently. I’m saying you could take several incidents—defensively or offensively—that were directly responsible for a 7-point swing and claim that it cost us the game. LaVert Hill’s PI call cost us the game, the refs’ no-calls lost us the game, our defenses failure to make a stop after PSU Bell dropped the pass cost us the game. . .

That’s just how football is. Football is a team sport where an individual success or failure often is the difference between winning and losing. Usually there are several defining points in a game. I feel like all the people who responded to my post only read the first sentence.

Is this you, LSA84?

Seriously, anyone who is a legitimate fan of this team realizes that Bell has been balling out all year and might well be the offensive MVP thus far. Too bad some idiots need to be idiots on social media, but that's what social media is. A place for idiots to do their thing.

Any Bell hating is by drunk people or trolls. We all know that Bell has been one of the most exciting things about our team this year. That catch and run he had was the first true breakout play we’ve had. Sure a bomb can gain a big chunk of yards but that play was special. We were only in a position to tie it because of his play all game.  As far as playmakers, he is playing right with the “three (supposed) NFL receivers”. Lastly, he has a chemistry with Shea that is necessary. TGFB.

The team lost as a whole. While Bell didn't lose the game by himself, but he didn't make the catch when it mattered the most. Bell makes a lot of great catches in the field, but for some reason he is the a WR who seems to be the most allergic to scoring in the end zone. Whatever it is, he is got to improve on that.

Simply put, Bell has to do better...as well as the rest of the team.

I agree 100%, IMO it was Don Brown and his defense scheme getting caught in mismatches.

Really about two plays and an INT beat Michigan.

I wish Bell had caught the ball but I DO NOT blame him for the loss.  I kind of feel like this was the best Michigan looked all year.  Maybe not.  Losing to the Nitts sucks.

Go Blue, beat the Irish!

Just please stop it altogether. There doesn't need to be a constant stream of apology posts to Bell and all those telling him he is appreciated. A loss is a loss and almost never is it due to one reason. Get it all fixed and start winning football games, end of story. All these other issues just deflect from whats most important, getting back to being a dominant Big Ten program. The fact that we are focused more on little things like hurting someones's feelings versus talking about how we dominated another big ten team tells you how far this program has fallen. I was just telling a friend how we remember the good old days when we were on an equal field with OSU year in and year out. We need to get back to that time that now seems a way too distant past.

If you can remember the good old days, Michigan had a running back that was strong and effective. A guy that could get 3-5 yards or more when needed. Think of the last time there was one like that. Has there been an Anthony Thomas or Chris Perry  lately?  In the mean time, we see people like Melvin Gordon, Ezekiel Elliott, Jonathan Taylor, Detroit's own Mike Weber and others lighting up the NCAA and they are not wearing maize and blue uniforms.

You are correct, sir.  Trashing Bell as responsible for the loss is the most retarded thing fans could do.  There were so many errors in this game and Bell, by the way, played well except for one play.  Getting down by 21 in the beginning is what lost this game.  That is on a number of players who share blame as well as the COACHES.

Please stop the stupid threads defending Bell and saying he didn’t lose the game.  You’re right he didn’t lose the game.  However he’s the reason Michigan wasn’t kicking an extra point to tie the game.

All the other crap earlier in the game affected those points in the game.  Bells drop was bigger than everything else combined because of when it happened and what it would have done for the team.

As a Michigan fan, the fact of the matter is that Bell dropped the pass and it was disheartening to see for us and for him. However, through the thick and thin, I am all for him and our team. If you don't stand up for your own team, who would?  This is precisely the situation when he and the team need our support the most. Besides  Bell has done much for our team since last year, and I hope this is a valuable learning point for him to be an even greater player for us for many years.

If you are a parent, would you throw your kid out for a simple mistake as well?

Shit happens. The kid dam well didn’t do it on purpose and all of us beer bellied arm chair qbs feel 1/100 as bad as bell. He’s made some terrific plays all season and is often the only one who doesn’t quit on his route and actually gets open. I support Ronnie Bell!

Ronnie did not lost the game for us!  I feel so bad for that young man.  PSU is a better team and a better program right now.  That's all there is to it.  Our boys fought hard, and I'm happy with that.  Go Blue!  Beat ND!

Watched bell play about 20x.I noticed Collins and DPJ were scared af to get open. They knew the heat would come if they botched it(bell rt now). The Fan base is buck wild and scares kids fr making plays.Game on line and 4/9 scary.  It's like in NBA when players run away from the ball with game on line last seconds and try to hug defender to act like they're not open. Sad that these kids don't have the nut sack to go get the win.  At least bell had the courage to get open and try to make a play.  He's not scary.
