Beat Iowa / Tonight's Rooting Guide

Submitted by True Blue 9 on March 3rd, 2022 at 5:29 PM

Hi all! Big game tonight for Senior night. Sure hoping the boys in Maize and Blue can get us that much closer to a bid! Let's take a quick peak at tonight's rooting guide:

- The BIG one is Memphis vs. USF. If South Florida wins tonight, Memphis will be on the outside looking in. Bracket Matrix has us two slots above Memphis.

- Same here with SMU at Cincinnati. SMU is on the outside looking in but they're right at the edge of the bubble. Bracket Matrix agrees here, they're the 3rd team out there. We're rooting for the Bearcats

- I'm of the belief we want SDSU to keep winning. They're at home against a decent Fresno State team. A win here would help them and thus help us and our NET ranking/SOS.

- Lastly, we've got Oregon. They're a little further down the bubble but let's keep them there. We're rooting for the Washington Huskies in that game.

- UCF and Arizona, two teams that beat us are playing tonight so we're obviously rooting for them. UCF's Net ranking is up to 86, so we'd ideally like that to keep moving.

- Lastly, I'm not sure what to even say for the OSU vs. MSU game lol root for a meteor? (I'm guessing the metrics would say root for MSU since we beat them but Big Ten tourney seedings probably says root for OSU).

So, there you have it! Go Blue, Beat Iowa and none of this matters :) Glad to see people have enjoyed these posts.

At the hospital as my wife is now on (what has to be close to a world record) 84 hours of labor. I hope I miss the game because little one is born, or better yet, it can be the first game he hears.

@ Qmatic: congratulations on the impending birth of your son!

And for your dear wife, may the birth process be over soon---my ex had 30-some hours of labor for our firstborn and somewhat less than that for each of our other two kids.  It exhausts me just to think back to those three delivery-room visits--- and I had the easy part.

Wyoming's loss at UNLV last night --- I honestly think that solidifies the MWC as a 3-bid league (I believe the committee does slot bids by conference for the mid-majors, as opposed to looking at the teams themselves, no matter what they say).

Wyoming is now 2-4 in their last 6.  The committee will take CSU, Boise, and no more than one of Wyoming/SDSU.  Not both.

Looking forward to seeing THE PROFESSOR go out with style tonight in his last regular season home game -- and maybe with 15+ points, as well.

Thank you, Eli. We'll miss you!

Based on our win at Iowa, kinda feels like we match up well with them.  🤞 Also hopefully they keep momentum from the sparty game.

Senior night. Go Blue!

IMO, it was pretty big for Michigan that Rutgers won last night and moved into the top 75.  That turned Michigan's Q2 record from a suspect 3-3 to a quite good 4-2.  If Rutgers can stay in the top 75, Michigan might not even have to win one of the next two (they would def still need to win one in the BTT).  Or if they do win one of next two, that would be the clincher even with a loss in the first round of BTT.

Obviously, want to win the games and get out of Dayton, but that's a significant development for their potential margin for error.

@NittanyFan I highly doubt that the committee limits conference bids.  I think you could make an argument for leaving Wyoming out on merit.  They have a bizarre combination of quite good resume metrics (9-5 in Q1+Q2) and horrendous quality metrics (avg rank 80.3).  I'd bet both make it, barring collapse (ie basically losing out).

@NittanyFan @TrueBlue2003  I doubt they ever set some hard limit and say this conference is a 4 bid league, let's pick the best 4 teams there... but I could absolutely see them deciding between an Indiana and an Wyoming, and just saying the MWC doesn't seem like a 4 bid league but the BigTen definitely seems worthy of 8 teams as a tiebreaker (not those exact teams of course, but I could see them looking at conferences when everything else looks equal between 2 teams)

@Turn you have to start logging the results of these starting with your first one. Do a nightly recap and then a "to date". Would be interesting to see the final results.

With Holtman at Ohio St, I now think I feel what OSU fans prob felt with Beilein at Michigan, it’s hard to dislike the guy. They need Matta back, he had a punchable face. Izzo on the other hand👊🏻 right in his stupid face

I'm rooting for MSU and OSU to go to 8 overtimes with both starting lineups receiving suspensions for the remaining season and post-season.   Is that wrong?

Michigan State looks like they are on their way to losing 7 of their last 9, and 5 of their last 6.

At one time, they were 17-4 overall, and 8-2 in the Big Ten. Now, heading for 19-11 overall and 10-9 in the Big Ten.

I do find it interesting how Akins didn’t want to play with Bates because he was a prima donna and then goes and plays for a coach who is basically one himself combined with being an angry psycho.

@BlueinRockford: looks like you too are 'primed' for the game!

I just returned from the Cedar Springs Brewery, had a few German brews to prepare for Michigan Basketball.

〽️ GO BLUE!!
