Beano Cook: Tressel will be gone after next year

Submitted by Wolverine90 on

I did peruse back several pages of this forum and didn't see it, but thought I'd share that on Maisel's section on ESPN, the radio portion has Beano Cook predicting the end of Tressel next year and Urban Meyer taking over.  Not that anyone cares much what Beano Cook says, but he obviously has more inside access than 99% of us, so it was interesting.   He quoted Meyer as saying that aside from Florida the only places he would coach are UM, ND and OSU.  Cook then said "ND is out because Kelly will win, and UM has a new coach who will get 5 years, so Meyer will end up at OSU next year."

Not sure how I feel about it, but honestly, given the last 10 years, any changeat tOSU is welcome.

Listen, the point is, if you're going to make a point, please make it in a semi-intelligent, adult manner. That's all I'm trying to say. I don't follow you around reading all of your posts; it's more like, I read the board a lot, and when something seems poorly formulated/is expressed in way that is below the level of normal discourse on this board, I guess I make a mental note of it. After awhile, I'm like, "man, that guy...ugh." At some point, that reaches a tipping point. That's where I'm at today. And when that happens, then I comment like I've commented in this thread. Of course, I realize I am not some sort of moral crusader, and no one appointed me to such a role, and me calling you out is a dick move. All I am saying is that, when you make arguments, try to put more thought into them, and don't drop down to the level of the type of shit you see on RCMB/MLive, etc. That's all.

Simply, I don't believe you on the length of your supposed readership. If so, and you've read the comments section since back in the Haloscan days, then I think you're reading comprehension and/or general understanding of the "norms" of a society/online community are nonexistent. Sorry for the direct call-out, but your "I'm dumb and juvenile and I don't care, you guys are all uptight!" attitude reminds me of a Sparty Brah dropout.

If you don't care if no one believes you, then why did you make the point in the first place? I assume you weren't typing just to read your own words; I ascribed some meaning to your words. It would be logical to conclude that you included that information because you felt it was relevant to the discussion. I, as one of the readers and commenters, was a member of the intended audience, no? Thus, do you only care about opinions if someone belives you or agrees with you, and if a member of your audience does not, then you "don't care?" Such a thought process is child-like.

I don't think changing Tressel for Meyer would be doing us any favors. I hope Urban really, really, really likes being retired. Unless Brady doesn't work out.

Yes, by ALL means, let's hope they hire a guy who has won at three different schools, two NC's in four years--all because Lloyd lucked out and beat a very young Florida team in some fleabag bowl.

Uh, I'd rather not.

Now, if you're talking that OSU might find some really irrationally giddy high school coach they feel is ready to make the jump from Dumpville to the Big Time--HELLS YEAH!

Good old Beano.  The guy who predicted 3 Heisman trophies for Ron Powlus and told us that we didn't even belong on the same field as Penn State in 1997 so we might as well just send the band, have them play the Victors so both sides can go home happy.

He also predicted Penn State to win the national championship every year from 1975-2000.

Beano is like Lou Holtz.  He has nothing noteworthy to report or predict.  His purpose is mainly to be laughed at.

Beano must be the all-time favorite of college football focus groups composed of grumpy old men.  An archetype (and Frank Beckmann fan) was featured on the 'blog several days ago.  He looked like a cross between Wilford Brimley and Danny Hope.  I don't know how else to explain his visibility in 2011.

FWIW, my impression is that he does not have it...What I can say with more certainty is that the perception of the Tressel situation is very different in Ohio than it is everywhere else.  I just don't think it's going to be his end at OSU.

If the NCAA smacks tOSU hard enough that they have to get rid of Tressell, why would Meyer - who could have damn near whichever job he wants - want to take over a program being hit with scholarship limits, playoff bans and so forth?  Seems like he can wait around for the perfect job to open up, this wouldn't be it.

OSU spends more money than any other program in the country, by far and has been a pipeline to the nfl for two decades.  they are the only BCS program in the third or fourth most talented state for high school football.  any coach would have a built in excuse for mediocre seasons until scholarships are back up.

Not exactly sure this means anything coming from the guy who predicted 2 Heismans for Ron Pawlus.  Not exactly a track record that inspires confidence.
