Baxter timetable?

Submitted by goblueritzy92 on
Does anybody anybody know if there is a timetable for Baxter on his decision? If USC starts Spring term on Monday then shouldn't we know on Monday? Or might he just sit out this semester so he ca have more time to make a decision? I know Baxter has been talked about a lot in the past 24 hours but I really haven't seen a definitive answer on this.

He still wants to enroll early, but there's obviously doubt if he's going to be able to go through with that. Things could early happen very, very quickly, or the EE plans could be scrapped, which means this would most likely go to NSD.

I do feel bad for the recruits caught in the middle of this situation. I felt for the Bearcats players when Kelly bolted for ND, and it sucks for these guys as well. I just hope we can get in there and have another shot, but I'm sure every other big name program in the nation is doing the same thing right now. I know Urban Meyer is calling the USC recruits and feeding them his crap. Again, thanks for the reply. I appreciate it, as always.

Precisely. This is why I hope he has someone in his inner circle telling him to just take a step back and reevaluate. This is not the time to make a decision just to make a decision so he can enroll early. He's still pissed. Even if he did commit to Michigan tomorrow and enrolled on Monday, that's not something I'd like to see. Take it all in and decide by signing day.

Obviously it would be great to pull a five star back. Think about it though. The kid makes the decision off the cuff, muddled with anger towards Carroll and USC, just to make the decision so he can enroll early. He gets here, it isn't what he wanted it to be or what USC would have given him, he becomes unhappy. I would much rather see him take his time and decide Michigan is his choice, knowing full well what Michigan is going to give him. But, I'm certainly not going to tell him to not commit here if that's what he decides he wants to do.

Yes. I would imagine that if he thinks USC is no longer the destination for him, he would likely scrap EE. I can't imagine it would be a wise choice for him to rush through a new decision over the course of several days on something that will define his life. He should just sit back, take in all his options, and make an educated, unrushed decision.

I'm sure he be enrolled at Michigan by Monday. He doesn't want to announce just yet since it takes a couple of days to enroll and get set up and all. Prater will probably enroll early with him too, making roommate selection easier.

I feel incredibly bad for these guys. I don't blame Carroll for taking a pro job, though. I guess, on the bright side, they didn't sign yet, so they can still look at other places

The part that sucks the most about this for recruits is the timing. Most coaches make job changes right after the regular season because they go to other college teams. This NFL situation is more rare, but since their season just ended, they didn't have time to negotiate before. This way works out best for the current players because their coach stays for the bowl game, but as we are seeing now it really screwed over some of these recruits.

From Andy Staples:
The most intriguing case is Baxter, who had no contact with any schools other than USC and Michigan. Baxter took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor, but he never seriously considered the Wolverines. In fact, he said, he committed to USC so early to avoid the precise situation he finds himself in now. Baxter said he must finish a few tests, but then he plans to examine other schools. He said he still plans to enroll at his chosen school for the spring term.
Obviously, it doesn't mean he's coming here, but it can't hurt that he's at least already been here once and, if he is serious about enrolling for the spring term, probably needs to make a decision pronto.

This would defidently make all the people stop talking about all the 3-stars and start talking about how great of a RB we just got imo. I think he would start from the first game of the season his freshman year to the NC his Senior Year. I dont know if any other elite program can offer anything even close to that.

I feel like a lot of these kids are just being shafted. The coaches can bolt whenever, potentially changing the next 4 years of these kids' lives. I'm not saying the coaches shouldn't be able to take whatever job they want to pursue. They need to do something for these kids to make it easier to get in somewhere where they feel comfortable in whacky situations such as these. Picture if this would've happened 2 weeks from now and the kids had already taken classes and worked out with the team officially. From what I understand they would then have to transfer and sit out if they wanted to leave the school. Pretty ridiculous in my mind. In any case, best of luck to Baxter, Prater and the others. Dillon (or any of you, for that matter), if you want to be a Michigan Man there is a place here for you. We patiently await your decision. If a man shows up at your door in a wizard hat and some jars filled with an oily solution, Don't ask questions... just let him in your front door and hear him out. Trust me...
