Baseball at Louisville: NCAA Louisville Regional

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After pounding regional 2 seed Bradley yesterday, 10-5, Michigan has a much more difficult task today.

Michigan will play regional host Louisville who is the No. 3 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The game is expected to have a crowd of over 6,000 as Louisville's game last night against Morehead State had that many.

Bradley won the early game today 9-4, eliminating Morehead State and advancing to the second elimination game.

This certainly isn't the first time this Michigan team has faced steep odds. In the B1G Tournament, they knocked off #4 Illinois who had won of 27 of their previous 28 games.

Michigan is arguably the hottest team in the nation right now. Let's see if they can duplicate the magic of the 2007 Nashville Regional where they upset 1 Vanderbilt to win it.

First pitch is at 4pm.

Game is on ESPN3.

College baseball is terrible. Poor approach at the plate by almost all hitters. Fielders not knowing the situation. Sloppy fundamentals. Slater may have just cost his team the game. That's a little league level mistake.

He 100% should have let it fall. And arguing that Louisville was "probably" going to score even if he let it drop makes no sense. Giving them a guaranteed run versus giving yourself a very reasonable chance of holding them scoreless in that situation is baseball 101. You let that drop every single time.

Some of these kids are only a few years removed from Little League. Also please note that both teams started pretty good pitchers today. The hitting approaches have been reflective of facing good pitching.
The only thing I'd have my hitters do different is to have more of a downward swing while trying to stay on top of the ball. On this turf and with the wind situation, my lefties would be chopping at the ball looking for line drives and bouncing base hits.
This has been a pretty solid game through and through.

That catch is just a great play if he doesn't steal third. Every guy who reaches first basically is getting a pass to scoring position on us

That 1-1 pitch should have been crushed! He just took it looking to fall behind 1-2 to one of the best closers, still gets a 2 out single! Crony up for redemption!!???

If they beat Bradley tomorrow, they'd play Louisville after that game. Michigan would have to beat Louisville twice--once tomorrow and a on Monday night to advance to the Super Regionals.

Very tough task. Michigan has only been to the Super Regionals once and even then, they "weren't supposed to be there".
