The game has changed since Hoke. OSU Clemson Bama LSU et al paying players & buying houses for mom through churches and car dealerships back in the day but most teams not so egregious.
Now loads of schools are paying cash money up front and it's all cool and such. You know all those Miami (YTM) croots are going for school and great academics. Effin Nebraska is outright buying players.

Hoke had a tendency to sign a lot of 4-star and even 5-star players who turned out not to be worthy of those ratings. I’m sure player development (or the lack thereof) was part of it, but lots of them were guys other programs had cooled on or never pursued in the first place. Perhaps that was because they didn’t see the same potential as the recruiting services, or perhaps it was because they didn’t think those players were likely to achieve that potential for whatever reason. Hoke did bring in a fair number of genuinely good players but I think his recruiting rankings were pretty heavily skewed by Derrick Green types.

Considering we have Ewald and are arguably favorites for Pickett and Graham (7th and 90th overall) means they must really like him and we could be in a legendary secondary class.

I know we should trust the coaches and all that, but it's still disappointing that we can't seem to pull in more elite recruits. His best offer is Duke it looks like, so I would figure it would be more of a later in the cycle take.
Maybe he blows up though, which is very possible.

It is also extremely early and our staff has shown great at identifying/developing talent.
We also have Ewald and are the favorites for 2 top 100 CBs as well.
