Bad mgoblog Twitter post is bad

If somebody could please embed for me, but here is the link. https://mobile.twitter.com/mgoblog/status/897134505030545408 I think some of us need to separate the real world and sports world sometimes. I understand the premise as far as the ridiculous moral victory headlines, but to put MSU and what happened on Saturday next to each other is pretty shitty.

And there it is. "Globalist." The dog whistle term for "Jewish" in the alt-right. If you actually went to Michigan, you might understand that this community isn't going to be super receptive to your bullshit.

Some people are born with silver spoons, or have a hook up. That goes for all races. Do you think hunger strike tool at Mizzou was hurting? His dad makes more in a yr that my parents did in their lifetime...combined.

Racism is racism.

There is no reason to pass over the poor white kid with better accomplishments for a minority due to skin color. It is pure racism. Merit matters.

Who's defining the "better accomplishments"? Leaving aside "standardized" testing, if you had two equal candidates except one of them got a 3.25 grade point average at an elite private school, and the other got a 2.75 at a poor public school, how do you decide between the two of them? What makes you think the one with the lower grade point average will excel less at the next level than the other one?

I'm not sure if you're being willfully ignorant, but not all affirmative action is race-based. Many schools will take into account a wide variety of obstacles that applicants have had to overcome. Some of those factors are socioeconomic. And yes, some of those factors are race-based. Unless you're going to argue that there's no racism, which seems increasingly implausible given this past weekend, that's something that many minorities have to overcome.

Merit matters, but merit can't be measured solely by who went to the best schools or got the best test scores. Affirmative action is a tool designed to help those who are behind catch up. It's a broad tool, and an imperfect one. But in a country where the average black family's wealth is 1/14th of the average white family's wealth, it can still be a valuable tool.

No affirmative action policy only considers race. Such policies were declared illegal, somewhat ironically for purposes of this discussion, in a lawsuit involving the University of Michigan.

It's a fact that many minorities start off with fewer opportunities than many white people do. That doesn't mean they're inherently less capable. But sometimes they will have attended lower-caliber schools, or have lower standardized test scores. And affirmative action helps correct for some qualified applicants starting the competition at a disadvantage.

To use an analogy, imagine a college track coach is trying to pick which of two sprinters to offer a scholarship to. One sprinter is slightly faster than the other, and has absolutely perfect form. You can tell he's gotten great coaching, and will be immediately competitive. The other guy is a little bit behind, and his form is a complete mess. He probably taught himself whatever technique he learned. In this hypothetical, you probably want to award the scholarship to the second guy, because if you can coach him up and fix his technique, he might be a much faster sprinter than the first guy.

I'm not here to defend any violence at BLM protests, but that group resulted as a result of another black guy being killed by a police officer.  The premise of the BLM movement was to shine a spotlight on the issue many blacks have faced with cops.  It's like being pissed if there was a Jewish Lives Matter movement in Nazi Germany.

Also, if the jackass killer doesn't get in his car, that young lady does not get killed.  He didn't get in his car looking for the interstate.  In fact, if some dude hit his car prior to the accident, I wish that dude would slashed the tires instead.

What you dont seem to be grasping True is that as a conservative, Antifa is doing the same thing to us, and not a thing is being done about it. They literally are terrorists, yet only NJ has named them as such.

I told you all the first time. I have no use for racists. That includes Identity politics from the left as well as KKK. Racists of a feather and such. When the left uses this excuse or that excuse to take rights, it will apply to us all.

My disgust goes for criminals as well. Which both Antifa and BLM have their share.

You are letting your emotions cloud you from the bigger picture. You dont have the right to physcially assault someone, and if it is going to come to that, the entire US is going to be like Chicago.

No antifa is the "doing the same thing" to you, you whiny melodramatic snowflake.

Nazis are fascists whose goals are white supremacy and the extermination of Jews, blacks and everyone in the United States who is not white.

Antifa's goals are standing up to Nazis to make sure that does not happen.

Only a sad warped mind could convince themselves that they are somehow a victim of the people fighting AGAINST the Nazis.

I bet you think the Sound of Music and Captain America are liberal propoganda designed to give friendly Nazis a bad name.

It's, "No puppet. No puppet." It doesn't even bother to be grammatically correct. It's not even a sentence. It's my favorite thing having anything to do with politics, ever. Those 2-3 seconds say anything you would ever want to know about the man, in my estimation.

I'm confused Brian.  Who were you making fun of with this joke?  You couldn't possibly be using what happened in Charlottesville (and their claimed moral victory) to make fun of MSU, right?  So, I guess you were making fun of the Charlottesville Nazis at the expense of MSU, that the Nazis are as pathetic as MSU (?).  Here is what happened in Charlottesville:  https://youtu.be/P54sP0Nlngg  I'm not sure MSU having a poor football season equates in any way.  It certainly isn't funny.

I think Brian is well aware of what happened in Charlottesville.

I agree that the joke was in poor taste, but I think he was trying to make fun of the losers who caused the tragedy claiming "victory" when they were exposed as awful people. I don't think he was equating the murder of a young woman to MSU's football season.

I'm not trying to defend the tweet, but I don't think your characterization of it is accurate.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.  That's why I was genuinely confused and wondering what Brian meant.  I don't think Brian was equating murder to MSU football either, but it did seem to me that he was equating a serious issues and terrible events to the relatively trivial issue of MSU football.  I could be wrong.

I'm so outraged by the tweet that I vow to never read Mgoblog again.

until tomorrow when the slow heroin drip and warm embrace of the blog calls me back.

1, WHy does OP want to draw more attention to something he thinks is a shitty look for the blog?

2. Comparing the headlines does not compare the underlying acts.  It just doesn't. It is a commentary on how pathetic losers are who try to spin positive headlines and re-write the narrative.

3. The guy driving the car in Charlottsville is a piece of crap and should get sentenced for  murder. No doubt.

4. Nothing in comparing self-spin narrative headlines actually means you are comparing the underlying facts. Its a reach to claim that the issue is sacrosanct and above discussion or reference, even in the mildest way.

5. It just isn't offensive to reference a headline re: Charlotsville for the sole purpose to comment on the pathetic headline.

Drawing any more of a connection is really reaching and... overly sensitive in my opinion.

I dont tweet, dont instagram, etc etc... but was a facebooker.  Never posted a ton on sensitive topics, just pictures of my kids, but found myself spending hours and hours of time just viewing bullshit after bullshit on my phone (shit like the above post)...which led to ignoring my wife/kids and getting heated at the same time...which in turn led to me letting that frustration out at home.  Nothing bad of course but my fuse got short.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of it all and free yourself from the BULLSHIT.

Like some here, I get that its a joke and he is trying to bring "humor" to some reallly dark shit...but cmon, I dont think this was needed at all.  I bet the percentage of people on this blog who would post that same thing on thier channels is very low. Like all social media, there should be a second freakin pop up that says "Are you sure you want to post this?"

Get rid of it all and you'll love the feeling
