Awesome Michigan Kicking Prowess...........(Help me TomVH, you're our only hope!)

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

So it sounds like the Goudis kid is yet again switching commitments and heading to Miami leaving your brave winged warriors to contemplate yet another year of the awesome kicking prowess of Broekhuisen, Gibbons, and an assortment of other random students who become walkon contenders.

TomVH is there any word out there on the hunt for another possible kicker or was anyone else seriously considering us when Goudis committed and said person has not yet committed elsewhere?

If not, I suppose I should be asking Formerly Anonymous about whether Soony Saad or any other soccer players are going to step up and be this springs "Justin Meram Soccer-Player records YouTube kicking hope video" award winner.

His responsibilities are not changing, but who he has to answer to has changed, and unless he was totally sold on the school, why not look elsewhere? Especially if that school has coaches on staff who you would be answering to, unlike Michigan, as far as I know. I don't think Goudis would be gone had this transition happened earlier, but it might be a little late for us with a Miami visit in recent memory for him as he decides where he'll attend in the coming weeks.

Can someone explain to me why a coaching change makes a kicker decommit?  Dude, you wack off during practice all day and then kick the ball every once in a while.  You aren't guaranteed to go to the NFL, so go to a school that will give you a degree that will mean something when you graduate.  If you are chasing hot chicks at Miami, don't worry about it.  You are a kicker and you'll never pull ass anyway.

If I had to guess, he probably changed his commit to here because of either RichRod or whichever coach on the staff that was recruiting him. That relationship was severed when the coaching staff was fired. Maybe that was a good part of the reason he decided to come here. Maybe the turmoil of the coaching search and the length of it played a part.

Most likely it was the coaching change. It'd be very easy to get attached to a certain coach, especially if they were recruiting you as hard as I imagine Rodriguez was due to our kicking situation.

Those who come can be champions... Those Who Stay Will Be Champions! If he wants to go play for miami good luck. He'll enjoy the view looking up at us in a yr or 2.

Munch. Who care's we've driven off our best recruits for 2011? We've got a Michigan man endorsed by Lloyd on board now, boy howdy! Let the rubber field pellets fly! Let's have a Michigan Ho down and remember the good 'ol days! (of losing bowl games every year...). Hail Lloyd!!!

Boy Howdy: "An exclamation of enthusiastic agreement which can be used in both a genuine or sarcastic tone. In addition can used to add emphasis to a statement, much like the word _ can. " . I am actually using the sarcastic tone...but also with the emphasis on the "_" us, ouch, I hate impatient retro M fans. They can't really have attended the M and BE that way could they? I support Bradey Hoke but a big _ YOU to the RichRod haters, David Brandon, and esp. the Lloyd (arrived in Pasadena 2007 at 4am to get parking spot, drove from Reno NV, only to sit next to USC frat boys chanting "OVER RATED"... I will always remember you Lloyd but not fondly.

He was the other California kicker (with terrific grades) who'd just gotten a Michigan offer, and was very high on it, when Goudis switched over, making the timing of Goudis' switch pretty interesting considering they trained together.  Is he still out there?  I think Loftus was considering Stanford too.  Would he feel less warm toward Michigan since this firing/hiring mess?  Stanford's lost their head coach too, so I've heard, but probably keeps much of the rest of their staff, system and players.  Anyone know anything?

I say we offer a carton of cigarettes and go after Nigel "The Leg" Gruff. He probably still has eligibility left, as he was a soccer player before crossing picket lines.

"The Leg" U of M's next kicker?
