Attention Wolverines in Eugene, Oregon!

Submitted by bklein09 on

I know this isn't relevant for around 99% of you, but I am starting up what's known as a "Spirit Group" in Eugene, Oregon. It is basically a mini-Alumni Club, and the plan is to host game watching, networking, and other Michigan events. The events will be open to everyone (alumni, fans, etc). I have been living in Eugene for around two years now, and since there are 500+ alumni in the area, this seemed like a good idea. Help spread the word! Thanks!

Here is some more info from the official message that went out. My email is included at the bottom:

Dear Fellow Wolverine

I have an interest in forming a University of Michigan Spirit Group through the Alumni Association for the 500+ UM alumni who live in the Eugene area. The primary purpose of the group would be to bring UM alumni (and fans) together a few times a year to cheer on the Wolverines.

The Alumni Association is willing to support the group if we meet the following criteria:
  • Maintain a group of at least 4 alumni who will serve as the group’s contacts, including one who will serve as the communications point person
  • Provide information for the group’s website, which includes the group’s contact information. The Alumni Association provides the website and will maintain it for us.
  • Host a minimum of three alumni event(s) per year (e.g. game watching, cultural, networking, community service)
  • Promote the group’s events in e-TrueBlue (Alumni Association electronic newsletter), through the group’s listserv and the group’s website

If you are interested in joining me in forming and maintaining the spirit group, please contact me by email at [email protected]

Go Blue!

EDIT:

If anyone out there is interested in setting up their own regional group, just contact the alumni association. As long as there are 250+ alumni in your area and no current alumni club, you are eligible to set up a Spirit Group.

When I was doing some hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, I would say "Go Blue" to everyone wearing Michigan gear. I ended up saying it ~2x a day. Then I went backpacking in the back country and saw no one except my fiance.

Of course wearing Michigan gear doesn't mean they necessarily went to the school or currently attend, but there are a ton of supporters.  Estes Park, the main town outside of RMNP actually has a dedicated Nebraska fan store. When I walked by it, I obviously had to "Go Blue" it as well.
