AP poll: M at #25

Beat NIU
September 12th, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
Welll said Vlad. Two insights on this Sunday
1) Everyone but us diehards hates UM. As proof see the #25 ranking. Deserved or not. Also. Coastal Carolina and Cincys ratings are not reflective of their reality.
2) The Lions are in mid season form. An L all day long but they keep you interested until the bitter inevitable end.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
Again, to beat a dead horse, just win and the polls will take care of themselves. I find it interesting though that Michigan is so high in S&P. Keep winning.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
I agree. But I still deserve the right to bitch where OTHER teams are ranked.
This week? I’m actually surprised OSU dropped farther than 3 spots. I guess miracles do happen sometimes.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
Surprised here too. I thought for a moment that maybe the pollsters had seen tOSU's body of work this season and took that into account...
... but then I see ISU at 14 and think, nah, half these people aren't watching the games.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
Iowa is really good, my dude
September 12th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
Yeah, all 170 yards of scintillating offense. I would expect Michigan to truck them worse than they did Washington. But they do have the easiest schedule in the B1G going for them.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Losing by 10 at home (in a game that wasn't in doubt) isn't a Top 15 performance; neither is only winning by 6 points at home the previous week over an FCS team that went 3-4 last year.
They may turn out fine, but so far they've not been a Top 25 team.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:21 PM ^
Great point
September 12th, 2021 at 3:29 PM ^
Y'all dont have to say "Beat ___" or "who cares, just win the next game" on every piece of information. Every single one of us wants them t win the next game. Its okay to talk about other news surrounding the program like rankings, or to be happy when the team or players get acknowledgements.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
Very well said QM.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Very true Quailman. I've been a huge negative nancy this offseason, but that just tells me to enjoy the good moments as much as you can while they happen. We may lose to Ohio State later this year, but that doesn't mean I'm not savoring their delicious tears for the whole week.
September 12th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
Well it does look like an easy way to get a ton of those golden upvotes!
September 12th, 2021 at 3:29 PM ^
On the one hand, I feel that it is way to early to accurately rank anyone in the polls so who cares where Michigan is ranked or unranked? On the other hand, why in the hell is Notre Dame ranked #12?
September 12th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
For the most part I agree with you about ND but I'll give the voters some slack thus week since they dropped ND four spots. I figured since they're ND the voters would move them into the top 5 despite 2 uninspiring wins.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
We are under-ranked and I’m totally cool with that.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
I see posts like this often, and accept the 'who gives a flying whoosie' attitude. But they're polls, and if we're going to have them they should--to the best extent possible--be accurate, and it also follows that people can debate them, should to the extent that they carry influence.
If Michigan is underrated by pollsters, true, it's not the worst thing if you keep winning, especially at the start of the season. But what happens when you lose? Odds are you fall, then, and remain underappreciated at season's end. What bowls or tourneys might it keep you out of?
Again, polls are dumb, inaccurate, etcetera. But of course we want to receive our due; it's really not all that mysterious.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Good to see the recognition. I really loved watching this offensive line mashing last night. They will only get better. Any word on Vastardis? Him limping off was the only thing that ruined my night. Rest up young man.
September 12th, 2021 at 3:58 PM ^
Sam Webb tweeted that Harbaugh said it was cramps during the presser
September 12th, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
Several mentions in other posts that Vastardis was cramping. Sounded like that was coming from Harbaugh. This is all second/third hand, so take it for what it's worth.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Apparently Vastardis was just dehydrated
September 12th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
Awesome news! Thanks guys
September 12th, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
UM would be favored vs 10-12 of the teams listed, on a neutral site.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
While there may be more than a few on this board that don't like the way we are playing/winning, I'd guess that well over half of the teams ranked above us would be crapping their pants at the prospect of Manball bearing down on them.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:31 PM ^
There is no style of football that is more entertaining than actually consistently winning.
Give me boring, productive, plays any day.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
Exactly. I think we would have all liked to see a little more in the passing game, but if your OL is mashing then you run it down your opponents throat all night like they did last night.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:06 PM ^
The discussion in more nuanced than that.
Of course we're going to take 'W's.
It's just that the smart people in the fanbase know that manball isn't going to work when it counts. We've heard enough bullshit, lies, buzzwords, and slogans -- without the results, over the past 15 years that we know good teams are going to destroy Michigan the way this team has played so far.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
Oh the "smart" people in the fanbase know manball won't work huh? If we threw for 300 yards yesterday would you "smart" people suddenly start thinking we were going to beat elite teams? Or would you all just say they have to beat MSU and OSU before you praise them.. don't bother answering, the "smart" people already know what would happen.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Which is what Ablalama does week in and week out.
September 12th, 2021 at 7:40 PM ^
Yep. And the last three 'Bama QBs all started this weekend in the NFL.
But but but... running for 350 yards worked so take the 'W' and shut up. Amiright?!
Fuck you @HAIL-YEA
September 12th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
Precise. And probably accurate too.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
Miami getting points just for playing Alabama. They beat App State by 2 points this weekend.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:45 PM ^
It’s hard to argue with those quality losses.
September 12th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
Haha. I made this argument ad-nauseam for 2012 Hoke coached Michigan at 8-5. I believe all 5 of our losses finished in the top 10, and 2 played for the title.
But seriously, Miami probably sucks.
September 12th, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
Why are we ranked at all? We haven’t played anyone.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:12 PM ^
You'll be able to say that regarding our next two opponents. It will take until the Wisconsin game on October 2nd. As long as Michigan wins and can beat the point spread in doing it, that will be fine with me.
September 12th, 2021 at 7:42 PM ^
You'll be able to say that regarding our next two opponents
Except for same shitty secondary coming up against Lombardi who had the game of his lifetime last year.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
If you look around the country at what other ranked teams have done this season (Miami, ND, etc.), and then look at what Michigan has done, there is no reason why they shouldn't have a ranking in the high 20's. Michigan is beating their opponents 78-24 and averaging 330 yards per game on the ground. That's every bit as impressive as what some higher ranked programs have done through two weeks.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
We just dominated a Power 5 opponent that began the year (i.e., two weeks ago) was in the top 25.
The self-loathing act is tiresome. Being ranked #25 isn't even that big of a compliment. That basically projects to 8-4 or so.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:50 PM ^
That was two weeks ago. As of last week, they were a power five FBS team that lost to an FCS team. As of this week, they’re an 0-2 team with a loss to an FCS team.
Michigan hasn’t played anyone.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:04 PM ^
Totally fine with where we are. However, if ND started out unranked, there is no way they would be ranked with those wins. The FSU win looks really weak in light of the loss to Jacksonville State and having to come fro behind to beat Toledo.10 in CP and 12 in AP? Come on! And UCLA? ??♂️
September 12th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
We all know they’ll find a way to get ND up there until they have their 7th loss
September 12th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
Aside from the Top 4- and this is an early look, it doesn't matter too much on who's ranked where. It is good for Michigan and they had a slew of 4* & 5* recruits in for the night game. I'll wait to hear what Sam Webb has to say about the success of the big recruiting visit to the Big House for this Washington game. He previously said a big win would bode well.
September 12th, 2021 at 5:13 PM ^
No way there's 24 teams better than M and I'm (starting to become) confident that the Wolverines will prove that this year.
Let's keep the run game churning BUT tune that passing game up over the 2 weeks in preparation for when we'll have to throw the ball.
Great start to the season, GO BLUE!
September 12th, 2021 at 5:56 PM ^
This is good because now Michigan games will show up on ESPN's default score page without having to change the menu to Big Ten.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:13 PM ^
That’s if ESPN’s site is working properly which isn’t always a given. Also you must be excited for the game in a few weeks. We’ve all got to be thankful for what we’ve seen so far. Don’t pay twice if our strategy fails then we can always complain. That said hope to see a couple of deep balls vs. NIU.
September 12th, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
Washington's defense is pretty darn good - they're going to rebound and win a lot of games this year behind that defense. Michigan largely had no passing game because that secondary shut it down. Save for a great throw and adjustment on that 3&15 to CJ, there was nothing available. I cannot blame JH for running down their throat in that circumstance. (There was an under thrown ball to Wilson - throw it 5 yards deeper and he scores! Gah!!)
I have my doubts whether the same thing can happen against MSU, UW, PSU, and OSU. Although, OSU's run defense has looked weak... Just saying! Can UM do to those guys what they just did to Washington? I dunno... I kind'a hope we don't have to find out because the pass game gets a little stronger.
Nonetheless, ranked at #25 is absolutely deserved, and may be just a little low. This is not the team they were last year. This team is playing really good right now - even if it's still early.
September 13th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Just win baby!
