Any word on Grad-Transfers?

Submitted by ItsHarambe on

I haven't heard/read any talk about persuing grad transfers. I know with Michigan's academic standards, it's harder to find talented players who meet the standards. But I think it could make a big difference in the 2017 season to pick up a grad transfer for any spot along the O-line in order to avoid forcing a freshman into a starting spot prematurely. S or CB could be another spot that we could use a grad transfer to afford one of the yuong projected starters another year to develop.

Anyone hear talk of Grad-transfers?

When your language makes even the most romantic concepts sound like aggressive diatribes, you have little choice but to be fucked up. What I hear: English - "I love you. You're special to me." German - "YOU AND YOUR PROGENY WILL BE MINE FOR ALL ETERNITY AND I WILL DECORATE MY LAIR WITH YOUR ENTRAILS."

Although sometimes such things make it here before they are in fact truly known, hence the infamous thread followed by a subsequent thread which effectively retracts the original thread, thereby cluttering the board. It happens with recruiting news too, but transfers are almost as bad. Worse are the threads which serve as a retraction followed by the actual story, then we don't know what the hell is going on anymore.....possibly ever.

I'm not really sure a grad transfer is going to help us that much. We have a need on the OL but chances are a 5th year guy wouldn't leave a school if he was getting PT elsewhere, so they likely wouldn't be better than the options we have. QB is really the one position where you can benefit if you have a need, a la Rudock.

I would agree with you about someone playing on a team at Michigan's level, but there are plenty of lower profile/less successful teams off of which a player might want to transfer even if they are starting.  For example, I know he is not an OL, but Dieter left BGSU to play for 'Bama despite an expectation of a reduced role.

“Once I got here I kind noticed that my role wasn’t going to be what it was at Bowling Green and that was fine with me,” Dieter said Saturday. “I wanted to do whatever I could to help the team. All aspects of my game got better going against those guys every day.”

Remember, the grad transfer rule is one of the few things that the ncaa has instituted that has benefitted the athletes, particulalry, the student-athlete. Chances are, it's not going to benefit a future NFLer (QB's maybe being the exception), but someone like Dieter, who got everything he could out of BG, and had a chance for one more football challenge. While I wish Dawson and Canteen good luck in their future, the grad tansfer was not meant for athletes to re-open the recruiting process, in search of multiple suitors. It would be great if there was a "blossoming" 5th year-eligible tackle out there, somewhere, who wasn't ready to give up his football career. I suppose this is where it pays off having your staff plugged into other schools, listening to all the rumors out there. I wouldn't hold my breath, though.

There is a Florida offensive lineman, a Michigan native, that is supposedly seeking a grad transfer. I think he started there some but there may have been health questions.

Then we'll see our needs and numbers more clearly. It's getting late for anyone to transfer in now and many potential candidates probably need this semester to graduate anyway.

The only name I've seen tossed around is Cam Dillard as mentioned above. While we might be interested in adding some OL depth, he's a center who's leaving Florida because he lost his starting job. If he was a tackle, he'd probably love our depth chart, but as a center, I doubt it.
