Mayock and Gruden are a train wreck
September 7th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
Why?
For not putting up with AB's shit?!
September 7th, 2019 at 5:13 PM ^
Because they're terrible at their jobs. AB is just the latest in a series of bad moves.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
AB has been the best receiver in the league for the last 3 years. As evidenced by NE wasting no time in picking him up, there's a market for him.
Just because AB is as much of a dipshit as he is talented, this is not on Gruden and the GM... unless you want to fault Oakland for singing AB in the first place. Otherwise, your take is a horrible one.
September 7th, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
AB was the same guy in Pittsburgh and he was wildly successful. He'll probably be successful in New England.
When you're the pitstop in the middle that gives up draft picks for no production that move is pretty clearly a failure.
September 7th, 2019 at 8:07 PM ^
Agree w Stig. Mayock/Gruden spent a 3rd round pick on arguably the best WR in the league. Sure, he has had some behavioral issues. Which is why they signed him to a contract that allowed them to void his bonuses, and $30m of earnings if those issues arose again.
I'm not the first guy on the Mayock/Gruden bandwagon, but they gave up a small amount to get an unbelievable talent, and gave themselves an easy out if he acted the fool. This is not evidence of mismanagement.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
He's arguably the biggest diva in the NFL and if he isn't, the other ones clearly aren't airing out their discontent as much as this situation has over the months. If he was anything less than a generational talent, he would have been cut months ago. They tried to reason with him and meet him half way but he has continually challenged their authority. I'm pretty sure the raiders saw the writing on the wall and this was before the damn season even started!
However, if anyone can somewhat rein him in, I would think Belichick could so here's hoping the Tom/Brown connection is rampant this year with as little drama as possible
September 7th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
AB is a clown. He'll be cut just like Randy Moss was cut when he couldn't help himself. AB will continue to step on his own dick.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
Moss worked out well for them when you look at the big picture. One play away from going 19-0.
September 7th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
Not sure if serious. By all accounts, the Raiders made brilliant moves with AB...this move is a masterclass in general management and financial contracts.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
For trading picks to get him. Giving him 30 million guaranteed (we’ll see if they get out of that). Gruden being his bitch from the start. Giving a head case all of this leverage over your team. How can anybody defend the Raiders in this situation?
September 7th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
AB is a train wreck.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
he is but if there is a team that has a chance to get him to shut the f*** up, its new england.... They won't hesitate to cut his ass if he tries the same stuff
Will be interesting to see what happens
September 7th, 2019 at 5:33 PM ^
Live in San Diego, local talk show called this move last week. The Pats are so opportunistic, which I love. What a great business
September 7th, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
In the least shocking move. Brady gets 7
September 7th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
Crazy...
September 7th, 2019 at 5:13 PM ^
AB can't play week 1
September 7th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
He can play. Checkers or parcheesi.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
Crazy is right... like a fox!
September 7th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
Thanks for another boring Super Bowl, Gruden.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
But of course. Even AB will fall in line in New England. Hard to pull the alpha act with Belichick and Brady. That level of success ends the conversation.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
Exactly, Brady is the truest of leaders
September 7th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
Exactly. AB’s diva antics won’t fly in NE. He’s #3 in the pecking order, at best, when it comes to who’s really in charge up there.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
AB's plan has finally come to fruition.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
No shit. Who has more fun than that dude? Maybe he really is a level headed guy that just enjoys fucking with people. And we’re the morons for buying it?
September 7th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Yup. Pittsburgh NEVER would have traded him too NE. Goodell will probably come up with some conspiracy theory and suspend the GM for a week or 2.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Hahaha
I picked up Brady for fantasy starter after taking a couple years off from him. Boom.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:21 PM ^
Smart move by the Pats, they have nothing to lose signing AB. Tom is about to run out of fingers with another ring on his hand. Good call Raiders.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:31 PM ^
Generational talent at a discount, the Patriot way
September 7th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
Pittsburgh Steelers fans right now: thanks for the draft picks!!!
NE Patriots fans right now: thanks for gifting us another Super Bowl!!!
The Raiders have probably cratered themselves for another few years with what they gave up to get AB. And now they get absolutely nothing out of it.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
They gave up a third round and fifth round pick for him, hardly cratering.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:48 PM ^
I think even if they don’t owe AB any money (arbitration here we come), they have 19 million in cap space this year that is air. Doubtful they’ll win much this year. Cratered is probably not the right word, but there is a significant hole that the raiders will find themselves in.
September 7th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
Fitting, since they play at the black hole.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
This was his plan all along...act batshit insane, get cut from raiders, profit.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
He’s bat shit, it’s not an act. Read into this lawsuit from this private chef he hired if you want, or literally any one of his social media posts. Dudes off.
September 7th, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
Considering it was the Raiders, may have been his sanest move.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:33 PM ^
Wow, another super bowl win for Brady!
September 7th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
guessing there are siginficant and worsening mental health issues with him.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
His erratic behavior is due to the Burfict hit from a few years ago. Hasn't been the same mentally since.
I hope he has a drama-free year in Foxborough, but I wouldn't bet on it.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
Is it just me or does this all feel like a well orchestrated move by the Patriots and AB?
September 7th, 2019 at 6:32 PM ^
I thought the trade from the Steelers was a crazy fox move because AB got his 30m guaranteed. Now he’s only got a one year deal worth much less. It might work out well for AB but I’m not sure there’s a master plan behind his erratic behavior.
September 7th, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
He got 4 signing bonuses in 3 years. His contract is essentially the same in terms of per year as he got with the Raiders. It's not worth much less like you claim it to be
September 7th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
Damn son. That is such a typical Belichick move. Also, a somehow unsurprising raiders move.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Respect the hell out of the Patriots living in win now mode for a generation plus while most every other pro sports team tries to hide behind the "trust the process" bs to excuse years of losing to fans.
I look forward to the day when I can go into a restaurant, receive a shitty meal and upon complaining to the manager be told "trust the process, we will be a 4 or 5 star restaurant in a few years".
September 7th, 2019 at 5:48 PM ^
They had his back regarding the cryo incident. They had his back regarding the helmet incident, until it was solved and forgotten and Mayock decided to fine him.
AB deserves all the blame for his actions, but why poke the bear for no reason? Why not make it clear from the jump that fines would be forthcoming if he missed time due to helmet issues? Because Mayock is an incredible idiot that is completely and utterly out of his depth being employed by a professional football team. Gruden and Davis start enough fires by themselves; they don't need some freaking mock draft prognosticator injecting himself into this mess.
September 7th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
Tom Brady's weapons:
Julian Edelman
Josh Gordon
Antonio Brown
Dorsett
+ Michel, White, Demaryius Thomas..
September 7th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
And Wino ?
September 7th, 2019 at 6:57 PM ^
Wish I had target Brady in fantasy leagues. Insane talent to throw to now.
September 7th, 2019 at 6:23 PM ^
Cant wait for Gronk to return midseason. Lol.
